David's to rent your points

I totally agree. I looked into his service, but it was not it all worth it for me to wait for David to handle the rentals for me. I work well beyond 40 hours a week, have a baby, and I am in graduate school, but I can STILL make time to handle rentals or transfers on my own. Also, I honestly want to communicate with the person who is renting my points and as reputable as David is, I still don't want him as an associate on my contract wether or not it is for a short time.

I believe he used to be added as an associate to peoples' contracts, but this is no longer the case; I think it changed because a limit was put in place with how many contracts a person could be listed on as an associate. Now when he gets a request for a reservation, he checks availabilty, then he emails several members to see which one would be available soonest to call and actually make the reservation, the member that get's back to him first is given the info to make the reservation with MS.

We did have some points listed with David back in September, but once the points had less than 6 months before expiration we decided we would try to use them ourselves for our May trip. I canceled my contract with David and was able to change my reservation to use the points ourselves. I definitely will list points with David when we have some to rent again.

I just wanted to update. I contacted David's regarding my situation and they were so gracious. I was able to rent all of my points on my own within 12 hours. Thank you all for the advice and thank you David's for being so understanding. I would recommend them anytime.

Thats great you were able to rent them. The few times I've had extra points, I honestly enjoyed renting out the points myself. Ever since the Reservation Wanted threads were nixed, I think it's more difficult to judge demand, but I've always found an overwhelming number of people looking to rent once I posted my Points for Rent thread.

as reputable as David is, I still don't want him as an associate on my contract wether or not it is for a short time.

PoohNFriends is correct. You do not add David on your contract in any way. It's just like he said, David sends out an email to several people and the first one to respond is sent the info and then they make the reservation. David never has access to your DVC account.

I honestly found it much easier to rent them on my own than sitting on my computer waiting for an email to come. That said, however, I also enjoy renting my points on my own and find it easy. For someone who has never rented before, doesn't have enough points to list their points, or doesn't want to deal with the hassle of listing their points for rent, I think David's is a great service.

renting yourself can be a pain, and it can take time, but I wouldn't want to use Davids mainly for the timescales involved.

put an add on rent/trade as well and see which one comes along first.

I've never had trouble renting points on my own -usually could rent them out in a day or two. But David's would be a good option if you don't meet the new posting requirements. I guess I've been somewhat of a lurker for the last 6 years -so when I tried to rent 26 points that I couldn't use this year I found out I wasn't allowed because I didn't post enough. We were headed to SoCal anyway and ended up using the points for a stay at the Disneyland Hotel(where we had never stayed) which was awesome -so all worked out well. But in a similar situation, David's might be a good option for someone in my position.

Is it true a renter can not pay their incidentials bill and stick the DVC member with it?
Yes, and it doesn't matter whether you handled the whole rental yourself or used a service such as David's. You're responsible for everything related to your points reservations -- not only incidental bills, but also damage to the villa, etc.

I considered using David's also since I have heard good things, but the points I just bought resale needed to be used by Sept 30. I did not think having him rent them at his discount last minute deal pricing was worth my while. I took the plunge and rented them out myself, they were rented within hours and payment was received, contracts signed and renters are aware it is non-refundable. A family of 4. I know there are always risk, renting is something I do not plan on doing in the future, but this experience so far has been a positive painless process.

I can't travel next year, so I listed all of my AKV points (260) with David. I think there was a demand for AKV because I had a renter by that afternoon and half the rental fee in my bank account the next day. When my renter checks in, I get the second half of the rental fee. I am very nervous about the possibility of getting stuck with damage costs, but I guess it's the risk I have to take if I want/need to rent.

I have to say that my first and (so far) only transaction with David's service has been fantastic. I found the staff to be very responsive and the whole pocess was painless. After the renter checks out and I am certain that all is well, I will exhale. However, I honestly believe that situations where the renters damage the room and/or leave open charges are the exception, not the norm. From what I can see, there appear to be many more successful experiences than negative ones.
