I see a lot of people use the Dave Ramsey method. I am on social security disability and its my only source of income. I have no credit cards and my only debt is medical.....would his program be designed to help someone like me?

It would be difficult. Ramsey's program focuses on people who spent their way into hardship. That doesn't sound like its your problem. His suggestions include things like taking a second job. Check out his book from the library, there are certainly things in there you can use - spending less, budgeting, setting up an emergency fund. But I don't know if it will resonate with you.

Thanks....I was going to buy the book but it sounds like it doesn't really pertain to me. I am more looking for budgeting on a small income...thank you for your thoughts

Again I would check out the book from the library, more knowledge is not going to hurt, even if some of it doesn't work out for you.

There is no real magic solution, you need to sit down and write out your budget for next month, start with your basic necessities; Rent / mortgage, basic food, utilities, transportation. After that plug in all other bills, if you have extra money at the end of the budget the apply that money to the smallest dollar bill and so forth.

If you do not have extra money and or your budget doesn't balance you need to figure out what you can cut out of your monthly budget.

being on SSDi you may qualify for other assistance programs.

You may want to go to the library and find a copy of the cheapskate gazette. That is more about being frugal

You can get the basics of the program online for free. you can also listen to his broadcasts on HULU and other sites.

It may not pertain to you exactly but after using his program to get out of debt and stay out of debt it becomes a way of life. It's about learning to manage the money you have even when you no longer have CC debt, car loans, etc. We do have a mortgage and regular bills still.

I would also suggest you check the book out from the library and read it and find ways to adapt what he says to your life.

Some Hospitals have a charity program. i am not saying that this pertains to OP but if you have a low income and no medical insurance, a program like that could help.

Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn (last name might be spelled wrong). Although the examples she gives are going to be a little dated now, it's still a great book.

Thanks, I knew that.

The prices are dated, but if one wants to live really frugally, her basic advice is wonderful.
