Any opinions on Dave & Busters? We've never been to one and keep saying we will try the one here in town but never do. So we've been thinking of finally doing it since they have their "Power Combos" that say you get the meal and $10 for the games all for $16 or so... which sounds like a good deal... but is it? :teacher:

How is the food? The games? The atmosphere? And since there is a dress code, what does each sex wear - how dressy do you need to be? :confused3

I went to the one in Dallas several years ago. Didn't eat there, so I can't comment on that. However, I really liked the games and atmosphere. :goodvibes I didn't realize there was a dress code though. :confused3

Dressy?? I wear jeans and a t shirt- I take the kids there all the time, in fact we are going there this Sunday, my daughter is taking a friend of hers with us...the food is ok, the games are a bit expensive and in the winter it is packed with families with little kids...

The one here in Frisco Texas has recently gone "smoke free" THANK GOD!!!!
In the past it was like going to a casino.

The kids love it, I can leave it. Food is OK. They have bar food and a restaurant.

As far as the $$$...well you can blow 50.00 easy on games. It all depends on how much you want to play.

When we go we end up dropping at least 100.00+ for the 4 of us, including dinner and games.

I've never eaten there, but we do have a lot of fun with the games they have. We go to the one in Times Square in NYC. And they are pretty generous with the tickets for the games that give them, so it is easy to come home with a decent prize.

I've been told they require kahkis and either a polo or button shirt for guys. Maybe it is only certain times that this is the case. Not sure... never been. :) Hence why I ask... :thumbsup2

Love it. The power combos aren't a bad deal. But we always end up spending more on the games, then the tokens that come w/ the combo.

As for dress- Pretty sure we were in jeans, most times, but I've been there for work functions, and we were better dressed.

I don't remember dressing up for dave and busters it's alot of fun! I've never eaten there though.

They enforced the dress code a lot more when it was new, but now it really depends upon the "bouncer" at the door. We never dress up to go there. It's no different than Chili's or Applebee's IMHO.

The food is better, though. We dig the games. DH and I can blow $50-$100 there on games alone, but really only go about 1-2 times per year anymore. I think they do not allow children after 9/10 PM? So if you would rather go when the crowds are smaller, that's the time.

I've gone once, later at night to avoid kids, and it was fine. I'm not into video games but DH had a good time. My best friend and I sat and talked over drinks while the husbands played video games. I think the food was okay, can't really remember.

It's an expensive outing so we never go.

How much does each game cost to play? Is it like an arcade where you drop a quarter or two in per play? How many games could you play for the $10 you get with the power combo?

I've seen the commericals for this place many, many times. Since we are regular Chuck E Cheese visitors we thought it would be nice to try that place so at least they'd have games that the adults could enjoy too. I think the closest one is in Miami though. Kind of a bummer, they shouldn't show the commericals so close to us if the nearest one is 4 hours away. I even saw that they sell gift cards to it in Walmart. Oh well, next time we head down to Miami we'll try it out. Does anyone know if they have a redemption area that my kids would enjoy?

You buy a "Power Card" and put "points" on it. I think it is like 2.50 (or something) to "charge up" a new card. So hang onto it if you ever go back!

Games vary with their point cost...I think Skee Ball is 2.5, for example. 10 bucks would not last long if you are into games.

No, there aren't any quarter games. It's all elctronic and on a game card that keep up with your points. For example to play a racing game may take 450 pts per person and if you buy a $20 card you may get 10k points. (I really don't remember)

Since it's just Matt and I, and we already keep a D&B card with tokens on it, one of us will get the power play card and once just orders something simple like burger and fries off the menu. It really depends on what you want to play for to make the $10 card stretch. They have cheaper games like the old school games we grew up on and they have virtual games which cost more.

We just think the food is okay, not horrible but not that great. I call it regular bar food for those who know what that means.

We've been a couple times and the food is good and the games are alot of fun! We spend around $100-$150 (for a family of 6) so we don't go very often.
As far as a dress code, we wore shorts/jeans and t-shirts.

I love D&B. The food is great and huge potions. I never knew there was a dress code, but I think it’s silly we get carded to eat lunch. DH and I are well into our 30's with a small child. The boys enjoy the games and the bar area of course looks fun!

I love D&B! The food is usually pretty good, but it depends on what you order.....as with any restaurant. The games are 98% of the time in good working order. The staff has always been friendly and it's a nice environment to go vegge out in for a few hours. They have ticket games that let you win prizes and they will bank your tickets so that you can save for the bigger prizes. We have gotten some nifty stuff over the years....including Gabby's favorite lambskin leather jacket, our coffee maker, a HUGE stuffed Odie, and a personal dvd player. We have visited 3 locations near our home as well as the one in Jacksonville, FL. I have never experienced any dress code issues and we are usually wearing jeans and t-shirts.....nice ones. lol

Go, have fun! Maggie

I love Dave and Busters. It is so much fun! If there was a dress code I have broken it every single timeso I wouldn't worry to much about it. The food has always been good and the portions like someone else said are huge. We rarely get a to go box though since after we eat we go play games and don't want to keep up with it.
