Daughter got accepted to CP. Now the questions!

We might have to revisit the whole driving vs. flying thing again. We were thinking that she would fly down and get situated then we would drive down and bring anything she forgot or was too cumbersome/restricted for the flight.

My husband is going to drive down with my daughter with her car and fly back home. We want her to have her car because I would hate for her to have to depend on the bus to get groceries and can't imagine having to haul stuff on a bus, then walk with it to an apt. She drinks a lot of bottled water and can't quite picture how she can buy that and get other groceries with bus transportation. I think she will more than likely use the transportation for getting to and from work but it will be comforting knowing she has a vehicle down there even if it is ONLY used for shopping trips.

Also, If she partners up with a roomate in advance, they need to be together when checking in as there is no guarantee they will be placed together otherwise. Disney needs to fill the apts and will not hold a spot for someone who isn't present when your daughter arrives.

Case in point happened to one of my son's roomates. He partnered up on Facebook to room with a colleague whose flight was delayed several hours. Rather than wait, he went ahead to orientation by himself. Disney paired him with whomever was nearest in line at the time he checked in and kept the line moving. He was told he could put in for reassignment later on but they never bothered.

My DD had her car with her and it was the best decision of all. She was not limited to any bus schedules and had the freedom to make grocery runs on her schedule. She did also use her car to get to work which was a blessing when she had really late night shifts or extremely early morning shifts and didn't have to allow for extra time for the bus schedule. All three complexes are so close to Disney that she really didn't spend a great deal on gas. Plus she was always picking up extra shifts and unlike a lot of CPs...she actually made money during her program and extension!!!

I would absolutely NOT plan a family trip for that close to when she gets there. She won't have her card to get into the parks for free, most likely, by then. She also won't be able to get anyone else in for free because the access card doesn't come for at least 3 weeks. Also, she will be working a good bit with training and she won't be able to request those days off since that is needed at least 2 weeks in advanced. She needs time to adjust to being in Florida without her family, too. I would say that coming in the middle part of her program would be best.

Drinking is taken very very seriously. She should just go with a 21+ apartment just in case. She will be with people her age and if she is as responsible as you say she is, she won't want to be with 18 year olds fresh out of their parent's homes.

Yes, it is only after you have been accepted. I believe it was in the roommate match section.

Our daughter was accepted on Monday. Today she chose her arrival date of Jan. 9th. Is the roommate match there on her portal or whatever you guys call that? Or is this something you do on Facebook????

With the new site I'm not sure. With the old site it was in where you accepted your offer, made the payment, etc.

Shell get her room assignment the day of check in, and she if she gets there earlier in the day, she should definitely be able to pick the apartment complex and number of roommates she wants. If she wants to be in wellness, she just needs to tell them at check in, when she chooses her apartment.
If you're for sure going to be there 4 days after she checks in, she should definitely have her cast member Id to get into the parks. She won't have her blue main entrance pass though to get others in for free, that takes about a month to get.
Do keep in mind though that she will be training when you are visiting her so she may be pretty busy!

Can I ask a few questions? A friend's daughter just started her program and she doesn't want to bother her with a lot of questions while she is just getting settled.

How does a CP book a hotel room for family? Also, how many guests are you allowed to bring in to a park? I guess she just received her passes, I think there were 3? So, are those good for the length of the program or are they one use deals?

I figure that some of this information may change, but the whole program seems like a great opportunity. Our own DS is thinking about applying for the program in a couple of years.

Needless to say, I'm proud that our DD was accepted in the CP for Spring 2012, as a FSFB. I'm sure that she will have the time of her life, but I want to make it extra special. We have a family trip planned for mid January at BWV and she will be arriving about 4 days before our family to start the CP.

How soon does orientation begin? Is she able to select her apartment complexs? If so, any recommendations will he appreciated. She's 21 but prefers a wellness unit. Will she need to purchase a ticket to join us when she is not working or will she already be considered a "cast member"?

Congratulations to your daughter!! My daughter was also just accepted and she too is 21 but not a drinker. It is nice to know there will be others in the same boat. Hopefully she will meet up with those.

Just my two cents, but your daughter and the previous posters daughter might want to rethink the wellness apartments. Any CP's under the age of 21 are required to live in those, so they'll more than likely be with younger folks. The biggest issue, and the one that was the stopper for my daughter, is that if at any time ANYONE in that apartment is caught with alcohol, the ENTIRE apartment will likely be termed, even if they are over 21. They are VERY strict about this, and from what I gather, it happens often enough to be a notable thing. So if your daughter is roomed with several 18 year olds who decide to smuggle in a beer, and they are caught, she will be termed with them, because everyone in the apartment is culpable. Don't forget, although your daugher may choose NOT to drink, she will be roomed with people who haven't made that choice - they are just in those apartments because they HAVE to be.

My DD is there now, in a non-wellness apartment, and from what she tells me, there's not a lot of crazy drinking going on. Frankly, although there are always exceptions to the rule, the kids on the program are too busy to go wild much. She lives with 5 other girls, and 3 of them are teetotalers, and no one minds, or tries to make them drink, or excludes them from the fun.

Just a little input, I was 20 when i first started my program and turned 21 during the program. I decided to stay in the same apartment because my roommates were amazing and are my best friends. I ended up having to sign a paper saying that I would not bring alochol into the apartment while I was 21. I dont drink alot, but I do like to have the occasional margarita. So when I wanted to drink I would go to the pool, or the picnic area and drank. Then store it in my buddy's apartment. Now keep in mind that not all under 21 were as great as my roommates. Ive had friends that had to report their roommates that brought booze into the apartment when they were underage. If you dont report it (booze or drugs) then you have the possibility of being termed if no one confesses that it is theirs.

My daughter is doing non wellness. She has just turned 21 but isn't a drinker, really. She does, however, like to have a drink every now and then. She wants to be with older roommates who have the option to have a drink if they want.

Yep. On check-in day, part of the process is choosing your complex/apartment size. Your daughter and her roommates if she has them picked out will be able to give their preference for complex and size and they'll see what's available. I don't know much about the housing process though, as only one of the roommates (again, if you have a group you want to live in arranged before check-in) has to choose the complex for the group. I'm just guessing here but I think if your daughter goes through the roommate match on the Disney site, they don't have to stand in line together at check-in. However, if you have all of your roommates figured out, then yes, you have to all be together at check-in, since Disney only guarantees you one. For me, I met 3 girls through the facebook group that I wanted to room with so we paired up 2 and 2 on the Disney site so we each had one guaranteed roommate but then were together at check-in to make sure all 4 of us were roommates. I really hope this makes sense and helps even a little bit.

My roommate and I didn't do it immediately, we did it till about a month before I think? We had met on Facebook and met up a few times before to see if we were compatible(we lived a half hour away from each other). I don't know how the new site is, since it's been two years since my program. Also my roommate was the one who matched us up, I just had to go in and accept that I wanted to room with her.
