DAS representative asking to interview child

Because that is where the conversation stemmed from, the overall implication (not necessarily by either of you) that it's wrong not to give people DAS, and that DAS was only reined in to make money.
Yeah, I wasn't responding to any of that just to be clear :)
I don't think it's an issue to ask a CM how it would be handled if someone had to leave. I understand it can be stressful, but sometimes it's our responsibility to manage our own things even when that is stressful. I also don't see a realistic way of getting around it, as giving people scannable medical data for every CM to read and interpret would be more difficult to utilize on the spot than asking how to leave/return. It also opens the door for all sorts of crazy privacy invasions.
I really think there's been some level of misunderstanding here. I'm literally asking why is it a problem if someone is asking for the procedure at every ride. That appears to be the system working as intended. I believe there's some melding of posts or posters happening here. I was not part of the comments re: scanning medical data and other "solutions" (nor do I agree with that).

There is no way that Disney wants to be responsible for storing private medical information for any length of time, nor would they want to build out the infrastructure required to collect/store/retrieve said information for CMs to make a decision about how to accommodate someone who may or may not have a need in front of them at that specific moment in time. I think that we should just let that idea go.
Agreed - I was never supporting that to be clear. I believe that was another poster in this thread.

LL wouldn't be a good substitute for us if my son ever gets denied. I won't go into the specifics because I wouldn't want ACTUAL fakers to try to use them. But trust me, it's not a good system for some people. If my son ever does get denied, I'm not sure what we'll do. It's very stressful. Especially since we are DVC members who book our vacations 11 months in advance.
Agree 100%.

Going back to paper fast passes at DL, they have always had a return window time. Those are great from a park operational standpoint but not so much for those with people in their party that qualify for DAS.

We have left many DAS passes not be used over the years and even from last week as things come up and that is fine.

We also lost many LL this past week though that we paid for as DS did not feel up to riding the attraction at that time. Yes I realize you can modify the LL but that is only if they are available which during Spring Break it was slim pickings.

With DAS I can hold one of DS favorites in the app and then several hours later when DS is ready we can go jump on that attraction as opposed to be there in that 1 hour time frame or else mentality that LL provides.

What do you mean? I'm not saying there needs to be a solution. Someone asking at an attraction what the procedure is in case they need to use it - however often they need to use it - is what is intended. The poster I responded to indicated that if someone is doing that at every ride then it's a problem - I'm honestly wondering why that is a problem when that seems to be the system working as Disney intended?
I think I figured out where this broke down - I mean it's an issue if someone is having to leave at every attraction, not that it's an issue when someone wants to know what would hypothetically happen IF they needed to leave at every attraction. Even people who "have to ask at every line" aren't generally going to have to ask at every line. (they might re-ride, or see a 5 minute standby) Some posters who seem upset have been taking it to the point where it's not clear that they differentiate between someone who needs a special accommodation and someone who thinks about whether they are going to need a special accommodation.

ah, yes, that makes more sense (and i would agree if they're having to leave at every attraction then that's a different issue).

So I just got off a call where the DAS representative asked me a lot of questions about my child, then they brought on medical professional who asked me the same questions again. After that they asked if they could interview my child and that took me off guard. She is only 12 and I have never been asked my any medical professional or her school to interview her directly to ask her about accommodations. I didn’t know what they would ask her and it seemed inappropriate so I told them I would call back. Have others been asked this? She has a developmental disability and we were approved for DAS on a visit last month. On that call they only took her photo they didn’t ask her a bunch of questions. I would prefer as a parent that I be the one answering questions, or I could also provide medical documentation from her doctors, but I don’t want strangers she hasn’t met asking her to justify her disability or what accommodations she needs. I’m not sure to what extent she could answer that anyway and if she answers “wrong” then we aren’t approved for DAS and then she feels like she said something wrong? At minimum I would want to know what they are asking her so I could determine if I think it’s appropriate questions to ask a child. Am I overreacting here?

At this point I’m just upset and I’ll have to wait for another day to call back. I also don’t understand why we were approved last month and they didn’t ask about interviewing her then, so it seems like standard procedures are not followed?
I think my gradaughter had to be in the interview process on the phone last year. I do not think they asked many questions and it seems like they took her photo. She was approved. I think she was about 7 years old at the time.

my nephew received a DAS a couple of weeks ago... my sister told me he had to be with her on the zoom call... she said it was in the instructions that the person for whom the DAS was for had to be present for the interview. So it is surprising that you received one without her present. my nephew has a hearing deficit and his speech is very difficult to understand. I know there have been lots of struggles for folks requesting under the new guidelines. But it was more an interaction than an interview. Good luck.

She was present, they took her photo. Sorry if that was unclear.
