DAS is getting an Upgrade!

I agree 100% that the pre-registration option will stay, but I'm curious as to whether the 2 attraction pre-select will.

Those cast members calling international das users are going to get bombarded. 14 day tickets 28 rides to das book…. Can’t see them doing that for long. If it stays I’d guess they will pre approve your das then let you select in app

I have a basic question about DAS. I have used it a few times in the past, and felt comfortable with the way it works. The most recent past trip was April of this year.

I'm going again in late November for a quick trip with the same traveling companion from that last trip, and I know I will have to renew at that point. In February of 2022, my family and I will again be going. I've never gone on two trips within the the 60 days, so I don't know what I will need to do for the Feb trip - it's with different people, so do I just need to go to GS and get them checked in? Or do I need to re-new all over again?

you will need to do to gr and add the new people on the DAS for your February trip

With the new 60 day limit, you will need to renew all over again, b/c February is more than 60 days after November...

To track DAS abuse, I wonder if Disney will start tracking stand-by line use. I’ve never scanned in or out of a stand-by line, but I’ve never used one over about 30 minutes. To prove abuse of DAS though, Disney would need to show people waiting a long time in those stand-by lines.

With the Genie on your phone, as someone in TPAS mentioned, they'll be able to have unbelievable amounts of data on each person in the park (b/c the app is gonna need access to everything to do what it's supposed to do), including DAS users...finding proof of abuse probably won't be Disney's problem...it will be admitting they have it...

No reason not for them to admit it though…perfectly legal

My DGS thinks the technology to track you throughout the park including in rides is already there via the RFID in your MB. But since Disney IT doesn’t work well we probably shouldn’t lose sleep over it😂

My question is on attractions like RSR, BTMRR and possibly those tier 1 rides. Since stand by is offered along with paying for Lightning Lane, can the DAS be used for those rides or are they strictly pay for the Lightning Lane or stand in line for an hour +?
I'll preface that my family visits WDW not DLR, but my understanding is that any ride without a virtual queue should be eligible for DAS. Anything attraction with a standby wait time.

just to clarify.
The website says DAS is valid for “up to 60 days”
That‘s not new; DAS has been up to 60 days for at the last several years.

That is what I am thinking too

Of course not. But if someone has claimed they can’t wait in lines and the data shows they have waited for hours in multiple other lines while using their DAS privileges, there should have consequences.

I don’t want anyone who needs access to be denied anything. But this is very clearly is capable of providing an advantage over regular guests when used incorrectly. While in a perfect world, those privileges would be for the people who actually need them (Which I have NO issues with, just to be clear!), I just don’t believe for a second that will be the case. The chance to pre-book attractions and have access to double the rides will be a huge temptation and will be wildly abused.

My faith in humanity is just too low, I’m afraid… Even on this thread someone pointed out not giving too much information in case it gives people a script to cheat with. 😟 I would be surprised if the pre-booking thing sticks around long.
The problem is that it isn't even always an issue with length of the queues, for example, I know someone that can wait in say a two hour line for Radiator Springs Racers at DCA, which is primarily an outdoor queue, but would be unable to wait in the queue at Indiana Jones, even if it were say a 20 minute wait due to how much in echoes in the queue, it would cause a panic attack. That same person can't actually use the DAS at Space Mountain at Disneyland because where you return there echoes so badly, but they can use the Standby queue or possibly the FP queue, but there the they don't always allow the DAS to use what was the FP queue, most of the time you have to go the exit. So, as you can see, the DAS isn't just about avoiding waiting in line for hours, it is about what works best for someone's needs and sometimes not using it is what will work best and other times using it will work best.

And I definitely agree that this has the potential for abuse, I don't see any realistic way that the advance bookings can stick around and not be abused, but maybe Disney will surprise us with something.

Completely agree with you. First and foremost they have to make it unattractive to begin with, stop it before it starts. Now that they sell the same service, they do have options of making it harder to get, I hope they have something in place or you are right, it's a step back.
They have options to make the advanced version harder to get, the in person version would count as the same as what any other guest can get by being in a standby queue, so while they can get back to asking needs based questions, they can't really go further than that.

One time the GR line was so long that by the time we got to the front my DD was in full meltdown mode, punching and kicking me. The CM had to come out to help us, because I could not move her. He didn't ask me why we needed it :scared:
Well, at least no one can say DD didn't need it, but that stinks and hopefully the preregistration can help prevent things like this.

I haven't seen anyone say that disability is all or nothing, but I've seen people, including myself, who would like to see Disney put some actual structure into a consistent, repeatable process for every guest who is requesting a DAS. And to me, that means Disney asking the questions, legal and within ADA guidelines, of course.

A previous poster gave the example of a decision tree, which is what I had in mind when I said to start out asking people if they have a disability per the ADA. If someone doesn't know if they have a disability per the ADA, then ask additional questions that go along with the ADA.

I think that for the most part, Disney has done a pretty good job of balancing the needs of those who request a DAS while still minimizing the cheaters, but I also don't think there were nearly as many cheaters with the DAS as there was with the GAC...although the DAS definitely provides advantages to those who use it, those advantages aren't nearly as generous as the GAC offered, so the incentive to cheat is reduced.

The new system adds the incentive to cheat right back in, so I'm hopeful that as Sue said earlier, Disney will have the data and analysis capabilities to find the cheaters and then ban them.
Oh, I know there aren't anywhere near as many cheaters with the DAS than there were the GAC, the length of time you end up having to wait when you go back to an attraction now vs when you went then proves that alone.

Again, the DAS isn't always about avoiding the long wait times, see my previous post about Indy/Space Mountain.

In Florida yes, but in California, it is only legal if:
  • It is on an opt-in basis that details what data will be collected
  • You have the option to get all of the benefits without your data being collected
  • If you do opt-in, there has to be a way for you to be able to log in and review all data collected and delete it
There are probably other requirements as well, but those are the primary ones I know about and are a primary reason that we haven't had magicbands in California.

Actually, they have had this ability since they introduced MagicBands and the apps have only increased the ability.

I don't think the advance selections will lead to abuse at all. In fact, we plan to never use that feature. It requires picking a specific hour to ride a specific ride in advance AND you have to ride in that 1 hour window. It's not an "anytime after" situation. If you miss it, you miss it. I can't see this being super useful to most people who need a DAS. There is no flexibility.

To prevent abuse, they could just lock you out of other rides while you’re in a virtual queue for a DAS ride. Then you’re not getting an advantage over a non-DAS guest and they don’t have to pin you down about how you can wait in X line when you couldn’t wait in Y line. It would require them to scan everyone at the start of the line, so that would be a pain for them. But if abuse became rampant, it could be worth it.
