DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

THANK YOU. This feels like an important reminder. It’s WILD to me how many belittling and dismissive comments of disabilities and accommodations I’ve seen in these DAS related threads on a disabilities forum. I would humbly offer that none of us know the needs, struggle, pain, or life of a stranger and to assume you know better than them about their own experience is arrogant…and can come off pretty ableist even when that’s not the intention.
Yes and no. I think some people perceive others discussing alternative accommodations and options as them being abelists, when that is not the case. Many people assume something will not work for them even though they have not even tried and then get defensive.

Agreed.

Thankfully, rarely is that word used here, let alone truly applicable too.

Most folk here are genuinely interested in making Disney and all its stakeholders a better place to be enjoyed as fully as possible for all (without crashing the whole enterprise).

My mom was approved for DAS at Disneyland (magic key holders) until 11/1. We are heading to WDW next month with APs. I need to do her call in a little over a week for the WDW DAS. I will try to come back and update on the process from that call.

There was a report early on that an AP holder in WDW called to DLR and they were able to confirm and approve without issue.

Would be great to get data vice versa.

The 120 days is understood to be for those who are making repeated calls after being denied. Not a person with 2 visits within that period using multi-day tickets. Not a person who was denied and went to the park and found the accommodations didn't work (still not guarantee of DAS). The 120 days is not an across-the-board block-out for all.

My understanding (which could be flawed) is that IF a person has a valid DAS currently in place at one park (say DL/DCA) at the time they contact the other park (WDW) to request DAS, there is a courtesy acceptance of the prior approval. But if approved for DAS at one park and that has expired there it will not be honored and one must re-register at the other park. So if a multi-day ticket is approved at DL for a 3-day ticket, the DAS expires, a month later you contact WDW that prior DL approval does not carry to WDW. If you have a MagicKey at DL and are approved for DAS (120 days) and 2 months into that you contact WDW, the DAS approval will likely be honored. In short... the DAS approval time period must overlap.

So I was able to do the video call today for our WDW trip next month. We have APs for both. My mom was denied the DAS for WDW even though we have the active one at DL. We were told to try to use Attraction Queue Return and to ask the cast members before we get in the lines what to do since I cannot wait in her place. We are only 2 and I must stay with her for safety reasons. We will see how it goes. The CM did acknowledge that she saw our DL one on file that is good until 11/1.

I wonder if they have slightly different rules due to better accessibility at WDW. Can your mom be in a wheelchair or scooter?

Can anyone explain why AP holders get approved for 120 days and not just everyone? I understand AP would tend to go more, but if I was approved for a trip, and 80 days later, there is a super deal for something, but wait, we don't know if we'll be approved or not for another 5 day trip.

We actually do use a wheelchair or scooter every time. We use our wheelchair at DL and rent a scooter at WDW. That does not solve all the issues though as she does have cognitive issues too.

I can’t explain it but maybe part of the rationality is the math. Neither group is likely to need more than 3 approvals per year. AP is every 120 days, tickets buyers highly unlikely to buy sets of tickets that require more than 3 calls within a year.

The approval range is tied to ticket. I think they also made sure one wasn’t more/less reasonable than the other, at least not a huge difference between the DAS approval process for AP vs other tickets.

That makes no sense to be approved under the new rules at DL and not WDW. I swear they have no idea what they’re doing.

My guess is that it probably does have to do with better accessibility at WDW.
There are more attractions at Disneyland that have alternate entries for guests using mobility devices at DL than at WDW.
I don't know what other points of difference between the parks would/could alter approval.

My understanding is that DAS is tied to tickets. Guests with an expired ticket wouldn't have anything to 'tie' DAS to.
The actual wording is:
"DAS is valid for the length of the ticket or up to 120 days, whichever is shorter."

So, even though AP holders are 120 days, if the AP will expire before 120 days, their DAS would expire when the AP does.
I believe the DAS is linked to your ticket.
👍

My son’s das expires in October. Our AP early December. Does that mean if we renew our AP that DAS would end in Dec instead of carrying over to the new AP?

I don't know, but I THINK that might be a situation where it would continue as long as you renew.
I THINK expiring at the end of the tickets for AP holders might apply more to people who don't renew and just let the AP lapse. I guess you'll find out

When the time comes, I’ll let you know. But I’ll be prepared either way.

It does make sense depending on the person in question. The two parks do not have the same set ups in the queues. There is less accessibility and more closed in aspect to the queues in DL compared to WDW.

The parks have rarely been treated equally depending on what is being discussed from ticket options to how MP/FP worked, to how Genie+ worked to how presently the new system works at DL (although I'm hearing they may be getting advanced selections), to not having MB for many years, to how the app worked, to how ADRs worked, to how on-site perks worked, etc.

I understand your point, but I disagree in this case. One of my biggest problems with the new DAS process is the subjectivity of the decisions by cast members. I still think they went too hard and are throwing out people in need to make money off LL and to weed out abusers. It seems to me they are unnecessarily weeding out those with qualifying needs too. But, that’s just my opinion. I’m pretty disappointed and disillusioned with Disney right now. I’m glad we cancelled our APs instead of renewing. But I’m also depressed about losing my happy place. I keep hoping they will fix the issues with the new process but they seem to be digging in instead.

Differences between CM to CM is not the same as discussing different theme parks that are located in different locations with different set ups to them. Not when we're discussing approval vs non-approval for something related to difficulties with a conventional queue as stated by Disney.

I'm not going to rehash the other parts of your comment (they are your opinion) but specific to wondering why someone could be approved at one park but not the other doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. It may be frustrating for an individual but it doesn't de facto mean they have no idea what they are doing.

I think there were way too many people with qualifying needs, that just didn’t really need DAS 100% of the time. Way more so than abusers. It was necessary to weed out these users to speed up the lightning lanes and make them function properly.

I disagree. And that’s fine.

It’s sad that is the solution.
