DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

I will happily discuss my child's school accommodations if it helps. But will he be denied if he's able to wait in shorter queues? Because over the years, we've come to learn that he's okay waiting in lines in the park when they aren't super long (so we just do standby when able.) I assume they won't think that means he can wait in ALL queues though, right?

I assume I should just give them our real-life examples of what has happened in longer queues, right? Because over the years we've done a lot of trial and errors in the parks so we have a pretty good idea of what he can/can't handle at this point.
I would give them your examples of what has happened at Disney and outside of Disney. People here don't want to give too much info as to what will be asked or what to say as we don’t want to provide a guide for people on what to say to get DAS (not saying this is you, just a general statement).

We stated his autism with accommodations right off the bat. That sets the stage for the discussion on the queue situation and experiences.

They will want to know why he can't wait in longer queues compared to the shorter ones? Why does it fail? What's the difference? Is it just time? Why? Does he have an internal clock the just alarms and what happens if it does?

Expect those type of questions now and be ready to answer

Thanks. It's always tricky since he's minimally verbal because he can't really tell us the "why" to his behaviors. A lot of it is still a mystery that we are trying to figure out every single day.
You may not know why, but you will know what his reactions are and can probably make some guesses about what happened before the reaction

I think it would be helpful to also tell them hes minimally verbal

I didn’t really have specifics on waiting in lines, but was able to give examples on how we accommodate his disability in the parks and on vacation as a whole. I won’t go into specifics, but that was adequate. When I signed on to the chat, I could also see previous chats in the window. The cast member took some time prior to the video to review our account. Son is 23 and I’m his legal guardian.

They have access to previous chats? That's handy!

Does anyone know how long DAS is good for under the new rules if you are not a pass holder? If I was approved for a trip next month, would I have to reapply if I also went back in January?

Screenshot below from Disney website. If you are buying two sets of tickets, then yes, only good for length of ticket so you would need to reapply for Jan trip

I don't have an AP and was approved for 240 days. I had 3 trips booked with 3 different ticket types at the time I applied and the DAS will cover all of them.

Weird. This is against what their policy states. Did you buy 3 separate sets of tickets, or did you have something like a military ticket?
They were 3 separtately booked packages. Maybe that's why? I thought it was weird too and just figured I'd have to call for each trip.

Just another data point for the above discussion, I was approved in August for 105 days and I had a 7 day park hopper ticket. CM even put a note in chat what the effective dates are. I saved a screen shot of that just in case.

As an aside, when we then went on our trip in September, I upgraded my ticket to an AP. I’ve been wondering if I should go back in to the registration and request my dates be extended to 240 days now that the ticket is an AP. That would then cover our April trip.

Several people have posting trying this and were told it is not possible to extend a date. The expiration is whatever was given when DAS was approved

Hi everyone. Some quick questions for you all please:

We went to WDW in 2022 and 2023. We have another trip in 2025.
Party of 6. 2 parents, 2 grandparents and 2 children. One of our children has ASD, ADHD, Dyspraxia etc etc. He was previously granted DAS for the last two years. I’m reasonably confident it will be granted again for him but my questions are:

- Will they grant the DAS for all 6 of us?
I’ve read above that stuff like this is a case by case basis? We are all direct family and it would be very disappointing to be constantly separated. The grandparents are Deaf and Sign language is their first language if that helps.

- Will my son have to be questioned or can I speak on his behalf? He gets very anxious and embarrassed about this kind of thing. I would also like to avoid labelling situations such as “meltdowns” in front of him for obvious reasons.
I know he will need to come on to have his picture taken.

- Am I right in thinking DAS normally lasts 120 days so I can do the application 120 days before the last day of our trip?

Many thanks in advance
😎

I've moved this post to the discussion thread:

DAS changed this past summer. It is very limited now; many who received it in the past do not qualify any longer. You can do the explaining while your son is off camera.

They have been very strict with the max of 4 guests (DAS-holder plus 3). Likely they will allow all of you to be linked but not all can do any given attraction with the DAS. You may want to look into LLMP for some or all of your party, and try to align return times with the DAS.

DAS is valid for length of ticket or 240 days, whichever is shorter. You can only apply within 30 days of your first visit.

For the grandparents, be sure to look into the schedule of ASL interpreters and/or the captioning devices.

They will likely only approve both parents and both kids on DAS, but you can have grandparents linked as friends and family so they could ride at times with kids, just not all 6 of you at once. You can always ask though.

In the past I’ve always spoken for my son and only had him come in for the pic. I explained to the CM that I wanted to talk without him but they he was in the house and I could call him in the room when he was needed.
