DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Interesting. I had heard they were asking those extra questions during first calls, but sounds like somehow they missed asking you those.
Yeah, I was surprised at how little I was questioned in the first interview as well. I thought maybe my explanation had covered enough of what they needed to know. Maybe there was still some inconsistency in the training in the beginning.

They might have errored more on the side of less questioning based on what someone was describing was their issues with a traditional queues. The PP did their interview 2 days after the new rules went into effect so I think that is something to keep in mind, it probably had more influence TBH that timing. When I looked back at their approval comment they said "low support needs" which may play into the scrutiny on this subsequent interview.

Now they've had 5 months of it actually being in effect to not only understand how their other accommodations are working out but also more people who have done their interviews.

Good point. In the beginning there probably was a lot more inconsistency and since then they have worked on more training to try and make sure CMs are asking the same questions and being consistent.

Will be interesting to see how often this happens as people get to their 2nd interviews.

I still think it will be largely individual so you'll probably still see what might be perceived as inconsistency but maybe isn't always at least in the background process but some people may get more questions than their initial interviews or it could be the opposite. I guess for me I wouldn't be surprised if either was done especially in the first couple of years and especially with them adjusting after the fact the get ahead of the line system they have (which I expect changes to be possible over time on that too).

This is something I’m interested in as well. I read one post that said they were basically asked if anything had changed since the last call and were renewed (both calls done under the new changes), no further questions. Which is why I wanted to post my experience.

@HavendishSquare - on a totally unrelated note but I believe that you said that you had a trip next month and your AP was blacked out. Which dates, may I asked, were blacked out? We also have APs and trips in October and November and I wanted to make sure that we didn’t get down there and find that we couldn’t visit the parks. I know there are blackout dates around Thanksgiving, but I *think* (though to be honest life is kind of insane right now) that’s 2 months off.

Pirate pass is blocked out 10/12-10/14.

So the 2 from the other thread I think were for the posters children. They may be scrutinizing adults calling on their own and asking more follow up questions vs a parent calling on behalf of a child who cannot communicate their own needs. Which honestly I think is fair as that child (or adult who is intellectually like a child) then has higher support needs.

And then on the flip side, neither of the two different CMs I interviewed with recently under the new rules asked me ANY questions beyond an introductory, “What you brings you here today?” Not a one. I guess I explained my situation well enough, since in both cases I was told DAS was the appropriate accommodation for me, but I didn’t provide any examples outside of WDW. I briefly glossed over some things I do to help myself in lines in the parks, but it was truly brief: there was no discussion on the topic.

I’d like to think the differences in interviewing have to do with the specific problems and needs - maybe some need further probing to assess whether or not DAS is the tool that would be most appropriate? But I suspect it also has a lot to do with the specific CM doing the assessment.

I believe certain “issues” are almost an automatic whereas others they need more details to determine if DAS is the best accommodation or not. I’m not going to go into detail as others could use that info. Not that I think anyone here would, but you get what I’m saying 😊

So the first time they didn’t ask you in depth questions, such as how you handle situations or what happens in line? Did you just give a diagnosis the first time and that was it? Just seems odd as I had heard they were asking a lot more questions after the switch.
Our call was last week - we were not asked detailed questions. I was asked to explain needs, I did so (granted in a bit more detail than I have previously), did not name a diagnosis at all, and it was maybe 2-3 mins and he was asking to take DD's picture. Still seems to be dependent on CM or situation.

I still think kids are different. Like I would normally just tell them my child has accommodations at school, but I’m guessing if I didn’t then they might ask me how we handle other situations. I feel like if you give a lot of info up front and it checks their boxes then maybe they don’t ask since it was already covered.

About the topic of the new DAS “secret menu” (my words, not Disney’s) providing DAS approval for 240 (270? I’ve seen both reported just to add to the confusion) days instead of 120…

As of today, the website still references “120 days or length of ticket, whichever is shorter.” Reports in the other thread say that CMs have been telling people it’s been changed to 240 (270 sometimes) days for APs and DVC members.

No argument from me: needing APs to reapply every 60 days never made sense to me. I did think 120 was pretty arbitrary, and 240/270 feels equally so. Why not just make the DAS expiration coincide with your AP expiration?? Under the new rules governing DAS approval the types of needs getting approval aren’t the kinds of things magically going away or changing every 60, 120, or 240/270 days - it would be easier for everyone involved to combine expiration dates, I think.

But Disney rarely does things like this without a reason, right? It makes me wonder. Disney never ceases to surprise me after all these years, and every time they do something that seems really weird in the moment, there comes a future “Oooooh, I get it now” something-or-other down the road making it all make sense. :rotfl:

Anyway, no - I haven’t entered a new chat to ask if my DAS that was approved just before this change can be adjusted to 240 (270?!) days. I’d like to see the website updated first to have something to point to other than “Some DISers have said…” That and I kinda had my fill with my own bizarre-o interview x2 experience and need some time to recover lol!
I have not heard they were doing anything for DVC members. Do you know if it’s DVC AP members only? Or any DVC members?

I saw people post on the DIS (in the other thread, I think) that the 240 is for AP and DVC, but I’ve not seen anything official for either. I’ve also seen others with non-expiring tickets say they were given 240 days. My guess is that it’s not just being DVC members, but having non-expiring ticket media or APs and they also happen to be DVC?

(Edited to fix a multitude of typos)

Gotcha! We’re DVC but not AP. We have a trip in December and April, and the April falls outside the 60 day window. Our December tickets are military salute tickets so we have our reservation made, we will be purchasing tickets from Disney for April. It’s kind of a wonky situation (and this is all under the assumption of approval which may or may not happen anyway). But if they were doing longer approval window for DVC members, that would have been great - especially since we also have like 40 points we need to use end of May too which unsure if we’ll rent out or do a short trip.

I believe the military tickets are not date based right? If that’s the case I bet you receive the longer approval window.

No - but they expire in December for 2024. Then the 2025 ones go on sale around November. And I’m not using those for our April trip, so it’s a bit wonky.

DAS approval must be linked to a ticket. DAS cannot be “attached” to a DVC membership. Just know there is no more “60-day window” related to DAS. One can pre-register up to 30 days prior to a park visit; approval is valid for length of ticket up to 120 days. There are recent reports of AP or non-date-based ticket approval up to 240 days.
