DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Yes! My daughter has Ulcerative Colitis. The number of people who said “oh she can get DAS” was a little surprising. Because 1-her flares are intermittent and when she’s not flaring she’s fine and 2-if she was flaring, guess where we wouldn’t be? At a theme park trying to stand in line for rides.
Yes I think that is where Disney is trying to differentiate between the “sometimes” people and the “always” people. It was just too many people using DAS when both these categories were included.

Personal responsibility and priorities! I could not imagine trying to worry about getting on a crowded, jerky, loud ride while in the middle of one of Kiddo's moments of not fun. Everything when it comes to health is more important then getting on the newest version of Haunted Mansion or Tiana's!

Yesterday had a severe heat warning with real feel temperatures of 109° F. That could deter some locals.
Friday was very much the same boat with the crowds but I was expecting that at magic kingdom considering it was only open to the general public for half a day.

Either way since people had been talking about what the lightning lanes looked like post DAS changes, thought I would report what I saw while we were there.

As for me, even though I have Autism, I believe I may be better off taking my motorhome and camping out at Great Smoky Mountain National Park and going to Dollywood instead. Even DAS guests still are required to wait the entire standby time so DAS does not get them on the ride any faster. However, nobody needs to be dishonest and abuse the system, but unfortunately, it is impossible to have a foolproof system to prevent abuse. All this does it makes it a lot more difficult for those who truly need it.

With DAS, you can wait somewhere else until your time.

Dumb question: is the current iteration of DAS a “use it or lose it” product? What I mean is, if approved for DAS to start the first day of your next visit +120 as an AP but you end up not visiting a park that day, does it drop off and you need to call again ahead of your next visit? I guess the same situation could be someone with a multi-day trip planned, but ends up not visiting a park the first day of the trip.

Not sure how you think Dollywood is any better. We had their “Timesaver” (included with on-site stay) and on multiple occasions waited over 30 mins. Not sure what time they were saving us 🤪 Visiting there was a one and done for me. (I do not get DAS, have never used DAS, but do get pain in my SI joint if I have to stand for extended periods, so usually get LL to avoid queue…depending on day/park)

We are here at Disneyland now. Have been since Friday.

Some observations.

LL still about 10-15 even with DAS and LL people. Not much changes. HM cue is horribly done, but does move fast. They really need to make those who use the scooters take a class on situational awareness.

We have personally witnessed a few people openly yelling and being quite nasty to CM's and surrounding guests at rides. Threatening their jobs, trying to film them and even trying to move past them telling them they payed and no one is going to htellt hem they can't use DAS. It was their right.. ONE on PP and one on Mattahorn, Security go involved. They were nasty and yelling very rude words. One even tried to run over the CM, screaming they had anxiety.

The third yelled at my DD when we walked past them heatedly discussing on Incrediacoaster why they had to stand in line with heir family of six. The lady yelled "they look fine.. she's does not look autistic.." Kiddo had her muffs on, so didn't hear and her father steered hearsay fast. The boys were laughing while the dad and the girl looked so embraced. We ignored and by the time we got out they were gone. Disney gave us some free passes, when we got off the ride and asked us for a statement. The security officer said they are seeing a rise in they are taking actions including banning. He was so sweet to my DD.

The lines for in person DAS were long. And there were a few off to the corner behind the buildings having very in-depth convo's with angry people.. Security nearby.

What I did NOT see was anyone trying tog et out of Question, having any medical issues or panic attacks. Que ran like they always did, both LL and regular without much disturbances.

Otherwise we have had a great time. Din Tai FUNG .,..... so good!!!!

Wow! I am so sorry your DD and family had to experience that. My heart hurts. I am glad Disney is taking action with rude, entitled people.

I have noticed similar things happening in our community. In fact, my DD ended up crying and we had to leave the mall because a group of teenage boys were mocking my DD. If it wasn’t 104 degrees outside, I would have stayed behind and reported them to mall security.

i'm so sorry for your DD!. But I am surprised to hear that teens still roam the malls (thought that disappeared in the 80's!) not to make light of your situation at all.

They need to make those who don’t use mobility scooters take a class on situational awareness. DH has been off to the side of walkways, as out of the way as possible and completely stopped and people walk right into him so many times he can’t count. He was not moving and they cuss him out because they didn’t see him in a bright red scooters with big reflective stripes (the ones from Gold Mobility), I mean he can’t be any more obvious and is NOT moving at all, yet he gets chewed out by the person walking. I mean if he stopped in the middle of a walkway, sure I would get it, but off to the side where people who are walking should be to look at maps, etc., sorry. The reality is there are people in scooters who do pay attention and people who don’t, just like those who are walking.

It is more likely to prevent people from unhooking them to shift in line and to prevent kids from swinging on the chains, breaking the chains, and file a lawsuit if they fall and get hurt. We repeatedly saw CMs asking people (mostly kids) to not sit on the rails either.
Thank you for saying this- I don't know why I didn't think of that as an explanation, here I've been walking through queues for years getting more and more bitter about all the empty space they are making me walk through for no reason- but yes, it's so obvious it's because people can't control themselves with those little chains. (which used to bother me to watch, but now I almost never see people abusing them so I don't think about it)

Absolutely. The last thing the Med pro asked me before denying was how often my situation happens and I fall into the “sometimes” group vs the “always” group.

We noticed it on our trip this year. However, they should have some type of gates to adjust if needed. Maybe that will be a byproduct for future changes they make.

Jerks come in all shapes and sizes and function and should dealt with equally.

Disney jail it is.

Repeat offenders get the boot and ban.

Not okay to be an ****.

Civility. Something we all benefit when practiced.

I think we'll be seeing more scooters. If less people get approved for DAS, there are going to be more people needing/wanting to use a scooter as a self accommodation. Situational awareness can definitely go both ways, I've seen people jump right in front of scooters going slow and they generally don't stop quick even when going slow. Also have seen a scooter run someone's foot over while trying to navigate crowds.

It sounds like you were in line next to those people for a while, how long was the line? I wonder how they knew for sure you had DAS or that your daughter was autistic and others in the same line did not. Sounds like a strange situation!
