Darn, Hate to ask a borrowing question...

We are planning a big stay in a 2BR in August of 2003 and I will need to borrow from my 2004 points. Can I borrow from those this Sept, when my 11 month window opens since the trip is in 2003, or do I have to wait until my Use Year comes up in April?
I'm figuring I can make the ressie, since the trip is in the 2003 use year, but I wanted to ask the experts.
While you are commenting, any experience with Early August demand, should I call day-by-day to get the full stay or do you think I can get the full stay without doing that? Thanks in advance! First BCV/DVC stay in six days!!!

Well, more experienced DVC people may jump in and correct me, but it is my belief that the points can and must be borrowed at the time of booking.

I recently booked a July 2003 trip to HH, and had no problem borrowing from my 2004 use year. We have a March use year. You should be fine with your situation!

It goes by the date of your trip, not the date of your booking. So your trip will be in your 2003 use year, you can borrow 2004. You don't have to wait until April, the regular 11/7 month window applies. I think this is the question that confuses new members most. They think of the points they have at the time of booking rather than the time of their trip.

Make yourself a little chart. For your April use year, it would look like this:

2002 Apr 1, 2002 - Mar 31, 2003
2003 Apr 1, 2003 - Mar 31, 2004
2004 Apr 1, 2004 - Mar 31, 2005
2005 Apr 1, 2005 - Mar 31, 2006

Now look at your trip dates. For August 2003 that's in your 2003 use year. You can bank any of your 2002 points into that year, or you can borrow any of your 2004 points into that year. Essentially making it possible to have 3X points in a specific year.

What date you actually call to book the reservation is irrelevant.

It is only important that points WILL BE AVAILABLE at the time of the vacation. As mentioned, they don't have to be available at the time of the booking. Points will be borrowed to make the reservation, as required.

I don't want to confuse anyone here, so I would like to point out that we are all saying the same thing.

You can and must borrow at the time you book, meaning points will be available for when you stay. I just wanted to clarify what I said.

In other words, if you BOOK your trip in Sept, that is when you borrow the points.
