Also, I ordered our cake knife and server set! I thought it was reminiscent of the "glitzy glam" style in the Art Deco era

I just bought this on an impulse at Target! lol I love everything mint chocolate. I also saw that they have Pumpkin and I've read Egg Nog. I wonder if either of those are good.

Love the cake server set!! I am debating whether to get one or not, since we will have cupcakes, but we will still be cutting something for the cake cutting ceremony...

So excited!!!!
I think it's something that will be come a treasured keepsake...hopefully you can get one, even with cupcakes!

The expo is so fantastic, I'll have to let you know what events we're going to go to...Hopefully we can see Johnny Depp again, last year was amazing!

Right?! It was soooo good! I got the mint chocolate and Chris got the nog...he said it didn't really taste like nog, but that's probably because Silk is the healthier alternative.

I got the cake knife and server in the mail! It is more incredible than I thought! I am in love probably one of the better purchases I've made.

I also went home to Pittsburgh for a couple days last week (for jury duty) but luckily I didn't get called back any additional days so I got to spend some time with my parents. We got our Christmas tree, went shopping, and got to go to a family Christmas party. Overall, it was a good couple of days...really hoping I can get home for Christmas though, I don't know about my work schedule yet.

I also got to see one of my MOHs and showed her the swatch of the bridesmaid dresses...She loved it! Hopefully she'll love the whole dress.

Last night Chris and I went to his little cousins' house and we got to ask them if they wanted to be the flower girl and ring bearer. His aunt was so appreciative and got so excited (a little teary-eyed too) The kids still seem a little confused, but they accepted and hopefully they'll be REALLY excited once they find out it's going to happen in Disney.

Also, I JUST found out they have matching toasting flutes to our serving set! I just ordered them and got free engraving!

DH took me to a D23 event when we went to Disneyland back in March. We saw Toby Tyler at the Studio lot and it was so much fun and great to see the studios, they even let us shop in the store which was really fun. I had to control myself from buying everything!

We are going to the D23 expo in August too!!! My DH went to the 1st one but I couldn't go because it was the start of the school year for me (I'm a teacher). I simply can't wait for this one. We should all say hi when there .

well i'm headed to pgh thursday night. i wanted to show my aunt and my stepmom some of the maggie dresses--but all the shops in south hills and washington are closed christmas eve and the day after. lame. they'll just have to come here. anyway... i'm drooling at the thought of having primanti's on christmas eve... i'm very excited about "home" food.

Hi everyone!

Hope you are all still enjoying the holiday season. I can't believe 2011 is this weekend!

There's really nothing too new to report. I've flown back and forth from MA to PA 2 times in the past couple weeks and I just now have caught a cold. Luckily, it's just that...and nothing more severe.

Chris and I went wedding band looking today! I've been searching on the internet for styles I thought I'd like...but of course when I got to the store I tended to like the styles I thought I would hate. Why does it always work out that way?!

We did not buy anything yet...but at least we have a better idea of what we were wanting.

These are the rings we tried on and liked the best:

Whenever we work up enough energy (and both have the same days off of work) we're going to venture into Boston and go to the place where Chris purchased my engagement ring and see what they have for wedding bands. I feel like they'll be able to help me more than just the regular mall stores.

Ok, I'm going to go get off my "diamond high" now and go see the new Tron movie.

So, I was off of work today and started playing around with our buffet menu items, but then drifted to some cake designs.

The one thing that I wanted to do was let Chris have the biggest say in making the cake, since I've practically done everything else. But I thought it would still be fun to just sketch out some ideas. This is going to be the hardest part!!!

We know what flavors we want though!
Ever since the DFTW Open House in August 2010 (they had flavors for us to try) I knew that Chris would love the lemon cake with raspberry filling. He LOVES fruity desserts. I liked the combo, because it was light and not as rich/sweet. We're also thinking of having the orange cake/orange filling for alternate layers. We have a lot of guests that are allergic to peanuts and/or chocolate...so that leaves out quite a bit. So fruit cake it is!!!

These are just a couple of designs I came up with...
Trying to keep with the Art Deco theme and color scheme. Done with either color fondant or ribbons for the line work and then minimal fresh floral:

And then this <incomplete> design:

Which would have the crystal ribbon around the layers and some kind of topper that resembles the feather plumes.
For some reason I can't get to adding color to this one...grr.

Oh well, I'll show Chris and hopefully he can brainstorm for us!
