Dance mom's are wack

Is this studio in Montclair? Do you go to a studio near there? We went to a studio in the totowa/little falls area and are now at a studio in Boonton.

Yes! My girls just do Irish dance exclusively now, but this studio was great! Dd10 took level 3 ballet and modern.

Famous ? Maybe for being the most homely child dancer to ever grace the stage. Seriously, the girl looks like she got side-swiped by the Ugly Express.

Wow ... not cool. That is just really wrong and uncalled for. You don't pick on kids, insult or name call. You just don't. :sad2:

She most be adopted. What man would have purposely impregnated Cathy ?

Bullying.......that is a horrific thought and cruel.

Awesome to know. I'm always looking for places to have DD expand he horizons ands modern is something that is a little lacking where we are

How can you tell whether or not they were the "worst" or the routine was "skanky" (they are only children, how can you call what they do skanky?) if they barely show us the routine in the first place?

I've read that you think these girls cannot dance, that they are mediocre at best but I really do not see where you are coming from. Plenty of people on this thread have told you that these girls are very talented at what they do. It seems like you just like to criticize them just for the sake of it. :confused3

I just began reading through this thread and decided to stop here and comment. I simply cannot understand the posters who are criticizing these little girls based on what amounts to 10 second clips from what were more likely to be closer to 3 minute routines....there's hardly enough there to judge. Nevermind that from what is shown it is certainly quite clear that some of those little girls are really quite talented and show great promise for the future if they decide to continue to dance. These girls are only 8, 9, 10 yrs old. Go into any studio and take a look at the 8. 9 and 10 yr old dancers. Children of that age who can dance like that (however 'imperfect' they may still be) are few and far between.

I also have a daughter who dances, like so many of the posters here. At her studio however the Competition Team is reserved for the the most advanced dancers.....the girls are absolutely amazing. Rarely do you find a girl under the age of 13 on that team. Instead they have a Performance Team for those younger girls who demonstrate great promise and commitment (my daughter is a member of this Team). Before this show I wasn't even aware that intermediate, even novice, dancers were allowed to compete....anywhere. Sadly, for some studios, 'Competition Team' doesn't seem to have much significance and seems to be not much more than another money-making opportunity. From now on,when I hear someone claim their child is on 'Competition Team', I will no longer be so quick to be impressed.

My dd took it for 2 years, and LOVED it, and was so sad to have to give it up. The best part about that studio (besides being so nice, great staff, lots of choices) is that there is NO RECITAL!

Then you missed a doozy, because 3 seconds is all you really need to think "OMG...are they really wearing a glorified bra and panties and straddling a chair in the name of dance? at all of 8 years old???" To the tune of I want to be your Fantasy Girl???:scared1:

Oh, I actually I did catch that and I will agree that the outfits were outrageous and completely inappropriate. I also agree that much of the choreography is inappropriate for children of their age (perhaps for children of any age if the number is designed for a dance team competition as opposed to a professional performance). I was referring to those making gross judgments about the children's overall abilities based on what generally only amounts to a few short clips (there were more than a few posters who voiced their opinion that these little girls were not at all talented). Truth is there is very little dancing on this show. Unfortunate actually. I'd much prefer to watch the kids dance than watch all that scripted drama.

I will also take this time to add that I don't understand why, although most seem to agree that this show is hardly 'reality', people continue to criticize it and the people who are a part of it as if it were. The show is contrived; it's scripted......that's clear. I think it might be important to always keep that in mind when throwing out the digs.

And the dig about that little girl's looks earlier? Disgusting. That poster should crawl back under the rock he/she came out of.

Among some other moves, the move at :56 is a bit much for 8 yos.

Certainly enough to judge the overall choreography and costumes as trashy, not enough substance to judge the girls overall individual performances.

I wish they'd just show the whole (or a good portion) of the dances straight on without constantly cutting to a shot of the audience, the judges, a mom's (or Abbey's) expression, a close-up of an individual dancer, a pan to a side shot etc. The way they show it it's all so disjointed.

But then again, the show really isn't about the girls and their dancing, it's about the fake drama.

I watched this last weekend when they had that marathon, it was a train wreck I couldn't turn away from!

That one mom (can't think of her name) is jealous of the 8 yr old maddy (yeah I said it, the 38 year old is jealous of the 8 year old). I am sorry but she's whacked out!

It irks me that most of these moms admit that their kids skip school for dance, so you mean to tell me that if your child tears a muscle or breaks a leg and is told they won't dance again, what do they have? Not an education!

Some asked about the how the studio was non profit. I believe that the dance company is non profit but that doesnt mean the studio itself is...so I am sure that Abby is making a boatload from the studio but has non profit status for her dance team.

I'll go with the possibility that some of the girls are talented. I just have yet to see any evidence of that. Not their fault. I'm sure drama trumps dance on the show. :rotfl:

The thing that drives me crazy about this show is the way they say COSHTUMES! Bugs me!

I was just going to post that. Why does every single person pronouce it incorrectly? It's so odd.

I think it must be regional. Their pronunciation didn't even hit my radar. I guess I say it more like "coss-tume" but plenty of people say "cosh-tume" around here.

My DD dances at a school with a strong ballet program. This school has placed at Youth America Grand Prix (a serious ballet competition that awards scholarships to pre-professional schools & summer intensives) & sent a student to Harid Conservatory (a pre-professional school in Florida) as well as had some students study ballet in college. I've spent many hours backstage at the Nutcracker & spring recitals as well as time spent at rehearsals & weekly classes. I also dance myself (belly dance).

These girls do have talent. However, what I see is a lot of frenzied dancing & not a lot of clean lines. I'll admit that with the ballet background I'm more use to soft movements & less of what I've seen in the clips (although belly dancing can be fast) but it just doesn't look good to my eye.

I see that Abby touts her students who have gone to dance on Broadway or Disney or other programs. I'd love to see how many have had a serious ballet career. Because while I know that's not what everyone wants, I can't see how Abby could be training serious ballerinas. Dancers perhaps but not those for whom ballet is their primary focus.

Wow! Who says that those girls will be two bit chorus girls? Abby Lee allegedly puts out some great dancers with successful careers. And, honestly, with the amount of opportunities that there are to dance on Broadway and the number of dancers wanting to fill those few spots, I don't think anyone dancing on Broadway is considered a "two bit chorus girl".

I dare say "two bit chorus girls" on Broadway make more money than most posting on this board. Have you seen the Actors Equity pay scale for Broadway? I'll take a "two bit chorus girl" part for six grand a month any day.
