So has anyone pre-ordered the Nikon D90? I was going to wait until I read some more reviews on it, but everything I read is positive. I also don't want to wait too long and not be able to get it and get comfortable with it before my trip Thanksgiving week. Hopefully they will ship next week on the 7th when they are supposed to be available.

I've been going back and forth between the D90 and the D300. I think I'm leaning towards the D300.

The video feature on the D90 is pretty impressive. It does have it limitations, but you can use ANY lens with it. Fisheye, wide angle, wide aperture prime, super zoom. Anything. I can only imagine what will come to us over the next 5 or so years. We may be seeing a dramatic change in video camera's as we currently know it.

Here are some sites with pictures and video:

This one is pretty impressive from Nikon:

i have been looking into upgrading my d40x to the d80 for a little while now but the announcement of the d90 has really thrown me!

now i'm really struggling to decide what to do??:confused3

me too! I went shopping last night to just starting to get some info and looking at the cameras but then when they talked about this one....made me have to think!

I'm starting to lean more towards the D90 (I think :confused3 )

does anyone know anything to put me off?

I saw one of the fish-eye videos the other day and the first thing I thought about was taking on-ride videos with it. ;)

when i heard about the movie feature i thought i wouldn't use it but the more i think about it the more excited i get :goodvibes

i'm really struggling to decide whether to pre order or to wait until its actually released - which i think is a little later in the UK....

AAAARRRGGGGHH I hate decisions like this...:scared:

I agree. This decision making isn't always easy, especially when Nikon makes a camera like the D90. If I were choosing between the D80 and D90, it would be the D90 no question. My decision making is between the D300 and D90.

I really do like the video feature on the D90. It will be interesting to see what Nikon does with the replacement for the D300 sometime probably late next year (based on past history). It will also be interesting to see what the other camera makes do with their future bodies.

Just wanted to pop in and say I got to hold one today.:cool1: I use a D40 and the D90 is bigger but still felt really comfortable in my hands. I was able to one hand it very easily. It was so shiny and pretty, if I'd had the cash I probably would have bought right then.

Oooooooh.. how did you manage to get your hands on one Wen?

The stores I have been into here can't even give me a definate date. some say 19th Sep and an other 3rd Oct??? :confused3

Thats exactly what I want to do, get into a store and hold one to see what it feels like. DH has offered to give me money towards for christmas so I'm just waiting on my final decision now

I've debating on one too. A camera store I went to this weekend get's two in this week and one is spoke for but I can reserve the other. I'm still on the fence with the D90 or Pentax K20:confused3 ....The movie clip sounds nice!

My DD's monitor went out and so we were in Best Buy and I always go by and say hi to my lens, lol. There was one there in the case and the guy came over and let me hold it and play with it. I seemed to know more about it then he did. When I remarked that it wasn't much heavier then my D40 he said that the major difference was the mega pixels. Umm, no dude, bigger sensor, in body AF, dust reduction, video, face detection just to name a few. I told my hubby I'd do better selling it then this guy, he didn't really seem to get the big deal.

The D40 is 522g and the D90 is 703g- those extra pixels are heavier than you thought! ;)

You know, I keep the 18-200 VR on my D40 so maybe that's why the D90 w/18-135Vr didn't feel much heavier.:confused3 After reading so much on this board I think that I will eventually go to two lenses for my 'every day' shooting, rather then keeping the 18-200 on all the time.

On one of the lens rental web sites, they have it noted that they will be getting in the D90 no later than this weekend according to their wholesaler. So we should be seeing it in stores this weekend and start seeing real world images next week.

We'll see what happens.

just been over to the nikonians foums and a few there have managed to get hold of them already.. no one seems to have posted any personal opinions yet though...popcorn::

I bought it yesterday and only took some photos in my house. My first outdoor shots will be at a football game on Friday night. I previously had a D70, and it is very similar in terms of the buttons and such. I have only briefly played with the D40 in the past, but anyone owning that will probably make a smooth transition to the D90, too.

The video feature is bogus, from what I can tell. That technology is really a few years away. I can't think of a reason why I would want it, except if something totally cool and unexpected happen to happen while I was out shooting photos.

great :thumbsup2

can't wait to see some of your pictures... :)

its not released here in the UK yet but just as soon as it is i will be off to the store to have a good look and see how it feels. I have a D40x at the moment so hopefully I won't struggle too much. I love my D40x and when I bought it didn't think that the in body auto focus thing would bother me but now that I have started to get into looking for lenses I reaslise that I am quite limited...

why do you say the video is bogus? Is it worse than the video you get on point and shoot cameras? This is the one thing that has me interested in this camera. I am not a huge video person. Love pictures more and actually look at old pictures. I never look at my old videos. BUt I do love the option of being able to take a small snipit of my kids doing something.

Thats your opinion and thats fine.

But when I regularly see video's like the one here I can only imagine what a movie maker can do with it.

This person posted this on nikoncafe.... here. One video taken at ISO3200 at f/2.8

He's also got another video clip taking with an older 50mm f/2 manual focus lens on that same page along with some still images.

We may see a lot of people looking for older Nikon AI prime lenses specifically to use for video. They are pretty inexpensive but still sharp pieces of glass and may lend themselves nicely for the video feature of this camera body.

I certainly would not call this anything close to bogus.
