D23 announcements for Disneyland-Magicbands!

Probably a dumb question ( I know nothing about MBs), but could someone else get a hold of your MB and use it? o_O
For purchases, you need to have a credit card on file and a pin set up. So if you lose your MB, you can deactivate it in MyDisneyExperience. And whoever has a hold of your MB needs to know your pin for purchases.

The OC Register says that the 'same bands' will be useable at WDW and DL. My newest are 2021 MB+, but it does sound as if there will be a 'new and improved' MB+ 2022 version with haptics, two-way communications, and some kind of 'Siri-like' feature. It might be like a lot of Apple products, your 'old device' will still work the 'basics', but it won't have all the bells and whistles.

With all the new 'features' I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a HUGE jump in price. That could get pretty expensive for a family. Or maybe they'll offer two versions: all the bells and whistles for a higher price and a 'basic' version without all the new functions.

Is there any confirmation that magic bands at Disneyland will actually work for admission and paying and Genie+ and such? I would assume so, but the articles I’ve seen only say that they will work for “select interactive experiences“ and that features will be different between WDW and DL. 🤔

At the moment, the magic bands for WDW have info on your tickets/AP and resort stay. So at the park, you tap your MB to the MB reader at the turnstiles for park entry, and for entry to FP/LL, as well as scan for PhotoPass. At the resorts, you tap your MB on the reader at the room doors to unlock doors, raise/open parking gates. At the stores/restaurants, you use it for payment (charged back to your room). So it is very convenient. No more pulling up your phone for the digital ticket or wallet for the credit card, etc.

Thank you for the explanation! I'm going in January, but I'm not sure they'll have them yet at that point.

Basically an RFID wireless tag inside a wrist band that you can use to scan as park ticket, hotel door key, pay for food & merch, etc. linked to your Disney account. Think of a company ID card or new credit cards that are "tap to pay".

The new MagicBand+ that is rolling out adds lights and I think haptic/vibration feedback to the band as you pass by or interact with different shows and attractions in parks.

Thanks!

Hmmm, that's a very interesting thought! If all they're good for is 'interactive experiences' a la the interactive wands at Universal then count me OUT.

Wouldn't spend $60 for a wand just to be able to wave it at a few places in Hogmeade to see some random special effects. Won't spend $whatever for an MB if all it does is make some random places at DL do similar.

I loved having a Magicband at WDW. Got to save some battery life on my cell phone and also made entering the park, FP+/LL, Photopass and experiences much, much quicker. Think about how often we use our phones for everything now! My phone is usually dead by afternoon! LOL

Hoping they fully utilize this technology in the "post" COVID era. I'm dreaming of a day I don't have to stand in long lines with my cell phone out and opened to have someone scan something real quick and then I gotta rush to put my phone away again and back on the charger in my pocket....

YES!! Thank you.

All the groups of guests all head down glued to phone (myself included) at nearly every parking booth, every main turnstile, every attraction entry, every food stand, on and on.... Looking forward to the day of 'tap and go' Magic Band or Apple Watch Disney app.

I love that I don't need a magic band since I can use my iPhone for everything.

I have an iPhone too and I LOVE MBs! No need to keep pulling my phone out of my purse for everything and risk dropping and breaking it. When you have butterfingers, every time you have to pull your phone out you hold your breath. You probably have it down to a science, but I've seen people holding up lines fumbling for phones then opening apps etc etc. Much quicker to just tap and go.

Now, if they'd make an Apple Watch compatible MDE app I'd be in 7th Heaven! That's when I wouldn't need a MB.
