D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

Busy, busy thread today! :goodvibes

First, CONGRATULATIONS on your run! :yay: We have people visiting this week and missed out on our W2D2 yesterday due to a delayed plane. Tomorrow is a run night and I think it should work because they have evening plans. I wanted to go, but am SO exhausted from walking around all day with them- I can hardly even walk. :rotfl:

I loooooove hummus and I'm very, very happy to find very, very good hummus in New York City. Minnesota didn't have such a nice variety...!! Joe isn't so big on it, but that just means more for me. ;)

I ate that the Tangerine Cafe in September 2008 and wasn't all that hungry, but DEVOURED the plate. So, so good. I believe I had the beef/lamb combo. I hope to eat there again in 40-something days!

i thought it was this one, but i guess i was just seing updates on the old one as well.

see it is easy to confuse this guy.
:sad2:

I can see where it might have been confusing- just know I"ll answer you wherever you post- I figure, if they're gonna give me 250 pages to play around with, I'll take 'em!

Do you like sweet pickles too?? I had (need to find it) a recipe for some amazing bread and butter pickles that were VERY easy to make. :thumbsup2

But I do eat hummus at the local Greek restaurant. :goodvibes And I am so counting that as a veggie from now on!

You guys would count a side of beef as a veggie! :lmao:

Congrats on the run! If I tried it, I'd drop over. :rolleyes1

I will cut out a bunch of Mickey heads for you and send them with the ribbon thingy............. :flower3:

I would have too, back in April! It was a sloooooooooooooow build up to where I am now- ask anyone around here! Shockingly slow, I might add. ;)

OK, then it sounds like I"m covered between you, Tim, and Jenb (not Jenbear).

Awesome progress on the running! You'll have it nailed in less than a week ;)

btw, just so I and jenb1023 don't get confused (because I easily do), when you're referring to me on the DIS, call me Jenbear :thumbsup2 But call me Jen in real life

I have 2 more days of 25 minute runs, then they notch it up again to 28 minutes. We'll see....

You're right!!! Totally need to make that distinction here!! :goodvibes

Liesa,
Wow I take 4 cub-scouts (9-10yrs) to Omaha for a week and you guys fill 12 pages LOL.

Okay time to try to catch back up so sorry I missed the beginning of the game :( but I guessed the right answers :rotfl:

Congrats on your running 25 mins I am really thinking that I need to start walking again with DH/DS so we are already for the world.

BTW thanks for bringing up the Lime Green Mickey Heads things it gave me the idea to Spell out Happy 10th Birthday to hang in our window in POP. Let me know if you need me to grab you some and send them as well. :)

Mary-Yep Hummus is a veggie and a very healthy one at that just remember you have to go out on the balcony if the "beans" come back to bite you :rotfl:

Glad you're back and can start the game- next clue is coming up later today for ya! Never too late to start- it's all in good fun!

Yes, there's a lot of walking to be done in the World- get moving!! :thumbsup2

You're welcome for the idea, but I actually got it from TK and Tinkerbellerella. 2 Very creative DISLadies!

Yes, NO bean bounceback- except on the balcony!!!

Here's a link to oodles of Disney recipes. http://allears.net/din/rec.htm

Carrot Ginger Soup is the 11th one down. I scaled the sugar and ginger back a little bit from what the recipe calls for.

Thanks, Glenn- I was rather busy last night- here's the scoop:

We walked in at 9:00 from our run, got our snacks, had the kids all ready for bed and tucked in by 10:15 or so, and had just settled down at our computers, WHEN...

at 11:00, we get a knock on the door. Neighbors showed up for tea and a visit to talk about buying the house (which we've determined they could NEVER do given the salaries of the kids). They sat for an hour, and my computer time went up in smoke. This is the same lady who LITERALLY runs away from me when I pass her on the street. It used to REALLY hurt my feelings (like I have leprosy or something :confused3, to be honest, I think she is genuinely afraid I have the evil eye, which they are paranoid about around here) but have gotten used to it, and now sort of chuckle about it. It's not my problem. Anyway, it was weird to have her in my house. I KNOW her husband forced her to come, so we'd be more open to selling to them.

They DID buy my set of Sunday dishes for about $30 though, so I guess it was worth it.

Well now you have all made my head 10 sizes larger with your kind words about my "ACCENT"":rotfl2: It really is NOT as British as it once was !! But still British enuff !!:rotfl2:

Glad we could boost your ego, Rosie! :rotfl2: but maybe it's just all of us that have the accent? LOL!

I too love:love: Hummus !!I did not like my meal at Tangerine but would try again and get the VEgetarian plate as the hummus and the olive stuff was great!!

I was eyeing that vegetarian plate as well there- I think I'll end up deciding right there in line, though.

Liessa how is your Dad doing ??

He has his surgery on Fri, at 1:00- I'll keep you posted.

Forgot to tell you our Dog MAX became a Daddy this week to 7 puppies !!:banana::banana:

Congrats to Max!!!!

Sorry...didn't read a lot of this (depressed mood today...sick of being ). I can tell you I DON'T LIKE HUMMUS. :)

I"m so sorry, Kathy!!! I really had thought those antibiotics would have been starting to do its thing by now!! :confused3

Liesa - I staged my first ever Mickey head paint chip covert operation this evening!! :tiptoe: I ended up going to 2 Home Depots. The first store I could only take 9 chips - there were 2 employees hovering the whole time, and I could only muster up the nerve to take 9 chips! I ended up with a total of 27 chips. If you want me to get more, I'll go out again tomorrow!!:thumbsup2

MORE!!?? Ok, I'll PM you the address today, later, and we'll use them!! I still have a couple of ideas up my sleeve- like thank yous for Mousekeeping and such... THANK YOU!!! :worship:

HA!! so funny that you had "hoverers". Like the Mousehead police or something!! :lmao::lmao:

Busy, busy thread today! :goodvibes

Aw, dang!! I know what it's like to miss a run, or 2, or even 3- been like that for me all week. Some were legit excuses- some well, were not. :sad2: But, guests are a GREAT excuse- people first!

I imagine you could find any food on the planet you wanted in NYC! Even Texas brisket. ;)

I like lamb, and had eyed that one too!! Gosh, I just can't decide on this one, so I think it'll have to be a game time decsion.

I'm down to 41 days!! So hard to believe!!!!

You always think of things with such a positive perspective! I like that! Plus, I NEVER would have thought of it like that!

Thanks! I am just very much a "glas-half-full" person. Or at least I learned to be it. I was a very moody child and my mother was always good at cheering me up with a postive perspective, so I guess I got it from her. :goodvibes

Sorry...didn't read a lot of this (depressed mood today...sick of being ).

I hope you will be better soon!

Visiting people at 11 pm at night?? But I guess it makes sense in a country which is as hot as yours to talk business late at night when it is cooler.

I just can't imagine someone would think that you have the evil eye! :scared1: You look not scary at all in the pictures I have seen of you. ;)

What a strange feeling it must be to sell off all your belongings one after the other...

Then you were a lot like Anara, my youngest. Moody, and I do emphasize the capital M! And you're right, being positive and even-keeled with her is the best policy. If you even raise your voice a little, it really escalates quickly. I hope she turns out half as optimistic as you. :goodvibes

Yes, drinking tea at 11:00 is what life is all about here- I will be glad to have a break from it. We suspect that they were out for a walk and saw our newly made advertisement sign for all our stuff on the house gate, and stopped in unexpectedly- to them and us.

The idea of the evil eye is pervasive here, and devastating to a lot of people. They live in incredible fear! They pin little beads with this design:

on their babies to keep them healthy, and hang these and red ribbons all over the house- which confuses me; how can a ribbon protect one?? Moving on....

yeah, it is strange- the house is slowly- actually too slowly clearing out, and today we spent the whole morning arranging our shipment which is supposed to go out Wednesday. We found out in the process, that we have to have a museum certificate to get our two rugs out of the country. More money, more hassle.

Ugh!

Again, all who played Ready, Set, Remember got Question #2 correct!!! HURRAH for you!! :woohoo:

Maroo doesn't care for WS so much, but my personal goal is to CHANGE THAT!! It can be enjoyed- if given a chance!

Here's the post I took the question from, for those of you who would like to go back and read it.

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33363228&postcount=676

And for those of you who have too limp a finger to follow the link here's the text:

2. I promise to really try to see the World Showcase. Really see it. And enjoy it. For all that it has to offer!

3. I promise not to forsake the group TOO quickly if I get bored with the WS (but a girl has to have SOME hot tub time! ) But I also promise to capture some alone time on this trip - as I know even the best of friends need a break from each other at some point.

Now, I must say, hot tubbing is a pretty good excuse, one I might have to use at some point myself, BUT we all that she won't be using THAT one while we're at the POLY. Sorry, maroo, you'll have to come up with something different for those 3 days. :lmao:

Now, onto Question #3...

This one is going to take a little searching and/or remembering- and it's multi- parted; here we go:

Pt. A- What is the one food Soldier #1 avoids like bubonic plague, but will make an exception for WHAT snack?? I hope that makes sense; that was some tricky syntax I had to work with there.

Pt. B- What is maroo's food group of avoidance, but what snack is she planning to get to redeem herself?? Hint: there's a sick twist of irony here!

I have some ideas... But need to do some research. It is getting more difficult!!

Thanks for the hint, I have figured it out now - there was a certain second snack that could have been the one you looked for as well...

Here is my answer:

You hate bananas (that's something I knew from reading this thread, it does come up now and then...), so the snack you mention must be the frozen banana. The one you made yourself looks rather delicious btw.

Maroo is not a fan of vegetables or fruit, but one of here snacks was a plain banana - and she got flamed for it!!

Here is my answer:

I would tell you how you did answering this, but it might tempt someone to take a peeky-poo.

NO cheating everyone!! Enjoy the thrill of the hunt!;)

ok so I know half the answer to each question, but I will need time to research the other half so: I know you avoid bananas, it's been posted several times, lol

And Mary avoids all vegetables, so sad, lol

And congrats on the run :)

Before I go on the treasure hunt I have to tell you that

1) I just got back in from my run! I got up early this morning and did it. Wooooo! W2D2 done!

2) Yes, you can get Texas beef brisket in NYC. ;)

Is that with or without Pace Picante Sauce?? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

YOU ROCK!! I remember W2, I actually thought it was easier than week 1! ;)

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still here. I just haven't had the time or energy to play your game but I like following along. :thumbsup2

My answers:

Part A - Bananas. However, you make an exception for frozen bananas...dipped in chocolate and nuts. YUMMY!!

Part B - That took some hunting - the link for Maroo's "Insta Snack Guide" is just to her snack #1, so I thought that was it, but that wasn't too ironic...so after some research, I found it's a banana! With Rice Krispies and milk she'd be set. Hilarious!

ETA: I forgot to say Maroo isn't a fan of veggies!

Is that with or without Pace Picante Sauce?? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

:rotfl: It's with ketchup and most people think it's too spicy! ;)

Just kidding!

There really is everything here due to the crazy mishmash of cultures. I love it!

W2 is easier than W1, but I'm very nervous about doing 3 minutes next week....!

1) great for you!! I wanted to run this morning, but it was raining really hard. I do run if it is just a drizzle (actually very nice if not too cold), but I would have been soaked after a minute. And tonight after work I have to meet my sister at a champagne bar for an after work drink... :sad2: So no run for me today. :rolleyes1

2) sounds delicious! popcorn::

Do you like sweet pickles too?? I had (need to find it) a recipe for some amazing bread and butter pickles that were VERY easy to make. :thumbsup2
yeah i do like them i got a mix to make a batch of those as well, they turned out pretty good, they had a really good flavor but they shrunk up to about half the normal size they were so the jar is only half full of pickles, i might make those again, but i think i will stick with the dill ones next time.

I"m so sorry, Kathy!!! I really had thought those antibiotics would have been starting to do its thing by now!! :confused3

Good morning, Liesa. I am still no where near 100%, but definitely feel better today. Not coughing near as much (ribs, however, are still killing me).

Please keep us posted on your dad.

I hope you will be better soon!

Thank you. As I told Lisea just above my reply to you, feeling better today. Hopefully after the weekend I'll be back to my normal, silly self. :)

Cook up a couple cups of garbanzo beans. Those are also called chick peas- not to be confused with Dude Peas.

:rotfl2: Good one, Liesa!

Love hummus, by the way. I dip my carrots in it.

You know, you can still get Tonga without the bananas?

If you order the BIG KAHUNA, you get french toast smothered in cinnamon and sugar-just like the Tonga, minus the bananas.

Just throwing that out there! :goodvibes

Tim, I did not know that! Oh, that sounds so good!

We walked in at 9:00 from our run, got our snacks, had the kids all ready for bed and tucked in by 10:15 or so, and had just settled down at our computers, WHEN...

You said "we"..... is Mike running with you? I always pictured you slogging it out solo - glad to know you have a running buddy.

So weird about the evil eye!

Okay, on to the quiz. This one was a tad bit harder. Think I'm right on for part A, not so sure about part B:

A. Your snack is a frozen banana, I'm sure for purely sentimental reasons, since you don't like bananas

B. Maroo avoids vegetables, and her #1 snack is a Mickey Ice Cream sandwich, which she'll eat with a salad to redeem herself - am I right?

I'll be praying for you dad today - let us know how it goes:thumbsup2

More prayers for your Dad. I hope they are able to repair the tendons and that he heals quickly. Also, did you ever find the box of missing books?
