D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

I am with Chérie, carrots are one of those vegetables that can only be eaten uncooked. But looking at the ingredients, carrots appear to be just a minor ingredient, you could also call it a creamy cheese soup with carrots... :rolleyes1 But it sounds very similar to the butternut squash soup recipe I once tried from Boma. This was the reason that I had to find out what "American cheese" is - processed cheese. :goodvibes

OH YES! You could definitley sub in squash for the carrots! We make pumpkin soup here at home a lot in the fall. But it's more savory than this. OH, and I also JUST NOW, thought of something that would be VERY tasty in this. Next time I make this carrot one, I'm going to use some coconut cream. I put that in my pumpkin soup, having learned it in Thailand to make it that way.

Hmmm... it's a sweet soup, I'd think that soy milk might work in it. I'm pretty experimental in the kitchen, so I'd try it.

We had bean soup today for lunch, and you're right, soup is hot. But this one really is very light. Oh, yeah, I went easy on the cheese to make it not quite so thick. and since I can't get American processed poopola here, I used a soft white cheese, similar to jack.

We leave our city in 46 days. It's a LONG process of actually "moving" since we're stopping in several places along the way, but 46 days is the countdown. :scared1:

We once again posted at the same time! You got me thinking with the soft white cheese (no idea what jack is, need to look it up), the butternut squash might actually be good with a soft mild goat cheese....

46 days is no time at all!! One and half a month! And btw this quite exactly the time I have left over here in Berlin as well...

Yes, Katharina came up with substituting coconut cream for cream in a lot of recipes since she can't eat dairy. It works great with vegetables!

Excellent choice for an item from Boma to make yourself.

I don't want to give away my TR details, but....
it wasn't on the buffet the night we were there, but the chef made it for me anyway! We ate with a PChef friend of Judy's and she loved it so much that she asked me to send her the recipe (we had a version that Disney e-mailed us a few years ago, but it's the same as Allears.net).

That soup looks delish.

I've had to drink the barium twice now and it's NOT FUN. I'm supposed to do it later this summer to as it's one year since my surgery. I don't want too. I'm already dreading it.

that soup looks fabulous. I don't really have a blender that does a decent puree so it holds me back from soups like this (or squash, which should be sieved as well).

I've done that colonoscopy twice now (my mom had colon cancer); the prep is horrid (the procedure itself is fine--you're "out of it" during the test). Maroo, glad you are able to type now that they've moved the IV; prayers continue on the way for you.

Liesa, sorry...but that is one soup I won't be trying (I am definitely NOT an adventurous eater at all). But it looks good...just not something for the woosy lady here. ;)

Maroo: I wrote a post then it went poof! Just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you - hope you get answers soon, and that all is well.
I'm glad you have your computer with you now. In the absence of family in town, you know that you can sign on here anytime and probably find a friendly voice to raise your spirits!

Mark has had the barium a few times, and I've also had the experience (and the prep so I can relate...ugh... I agree with the other posters that barium is yucky. However, our Mark actually likes it! I think he must be the only one. Maybe better flavours are offered in pediatrics? I don't remember being offered anything other than chalk-flavoured, but I tell you, I've tasked Mark's preferred chocolate flavour and it really wasn't that awful.

Hope things go well today.

We have quite a habit of that! :lmao:

Which makes me immediately think of the goat cheese ravioli that I am having a massively hard time waiting for at Cali Grill! Mmmm..goat cheese!

So, we leave our respective cities on the same day- unreal!

Since I've lived here, I've used the coconut cream powder- I can't get either here, and to bring it back from Thailand, it was less heavy in powder form. I LOVE it in curries, soups, you name it.

I won't tell a soul! Shhhh....

But hey, I DID get that particular (the soup) idea from you. You are becoming like my co-writer or something! :thumbsup2

I guess I'm in the minority, but I LOVE cooked carrots!

I really love any vegie turned into a soup- because plain, well, they just lack something. Like yumminess.

Doesn't it?? It was not only pretty, but very tasty too!

I don't blame you for dreading it. I've never had to do it, but have had plenty of folks tell me how bad it was!

I use my hand mixer that has a blender wand on it. Works like a charm!

Ah well... we all do know what we like- usually. If someone put a bowl of oatmeal in front of me, and said try it, you'll like it, I probably wounldn't- try it, or like it.

:welcome: Alison!! I"ve not seen you post here before, and just wanted to say hi and welcome!! We love new company, come back and post often!!

The Carrot Ginger soup...mmmmm, but you're right it needs just a hint of heat to it.

See! That's what I'm sayin'; a pinch of cayenne, or at the very least a few red pepper flakes. You know your stuff! :thumbsup2

Liesa- congrats on the 5K. Oh and the soup looked tasty.

Maroo - you will be in my prayers. I hope you have a quick and full recovery.

I realize now I was in a hurry (kids' first day home for summer vacation!) and I didn't introduce myself. I know Maroo from over on the Wish Trippers thread. Our son Mark's Wish Trip was in Nov 2008 just as Maroo was becoming more and more active - and helpful - over on that thread. I hadn't seen word of her hospitalization over there yet, so wanted to be sure she knew she had my prayers too! It sounds like you guys have a fun trip planned...and I hope all of you are in 100% fine form leading up to your trip!

And Liesa: This time last year I was having a hard time running 5K, just felt like a slug. I decided to set an ambitious goal and...with many months to train for it...I'm happy to say I ran my first half-marathon a few weeks ago! It was slower than I'd hope because of the heat, but I did it...don't worry about speed, or running/walking...the important thing is: YOU DID IT!!!

I only run when i am scared, or someone is chasing me. :rotfl:
I am a server in a restaurant, so always in a hurry and on the move. I don't actually know how to walk slowly...:confused3

congrats on the run. :thumbsup2

Maroo, we all love you and what you accomplish, which seems to be the impossible at times, for your wish kids. Please know that our prayers are heading to you at all times. Good luck sweetie.

I'm ready for another update....just saying.....popcorn::he he

maroo :grouphug: Bless your heart for posting from your hospital bed (and blessings for many other things about you too;) ). I'm proud of you for being so brave! I'm a wimp when it comes to any type of test that requires prep or is invasive in the slightest. Keeping the prayer fire going for you, sweetie!

Liesa, the soup is certainly pretty!!

Hope that hand it a little better today!

:dance3:

I like cooked carrots too :thumbsup2 As long as they aren't too mushy. But if it's soup, I'd still eat it. I like the taste of carrots.

Is "barium" similar to magnesium citrate that (as politely as I can be here) cleans out your insides? My grandma, who is 90 years old, just went through that to get a colonoscopy and had to drink two bottles of the stuff. She was in terrible condition the night before her surgery. Poor thing. You're right. It does NOT look like fun.
