D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

I'll probably be up for another hour or two.

Singing in one's heart...hard for me these days.:sad2:

I meant your mother TONGUE!! We've only had the 5 us of to sing in English for too long- if it's not that, then it's in Blankistani, and doesn't quite cut it for going deep with. It was good to be with a bigger group singing in ENGLISH!

But I DO get what you said! Finding that "new song" is so hard when life gets rough. Thankfully, we have one who intercedes on our behalf. :goodvibes and picks up the slack when we're feeling empty.

sorry...I forget you're half way across the world sometimes...

Hi Bekka, I hope you are having a wonderful summer! I am really sorry that I won't be able to meet you when the larger part of your family will visit Nuremberg this summer. :sad1:

When I ran up to his room there were a ton of clear/greenish baby spiders on one of his walls, his T.V. and on the ceiling!! I felt like I was in the middle of a horror flick!!

Wow, I normally don't mind spiders, but this just sounds awful! You are a great mom for cleaning this up! :thumbsup2

The trip we took in which we went to WDW also, and I did my flashback TR on in Pt. 2? of this PTR

Oh, I missed that! Need to go back and search for it. I did read back a lot, but did not catch that....

I won’t go into great detail about the wonderful preaching and worship and area updates we got over the next 4 days, but suffice it to say it was VERY encouraging, uplifting, exhorting, and all that-

but we’re still leaving. It’s time.

But it sounds like it might help you leave with a more positive outlook on what you did together with the event of this man. :goodvibes

Spending time with like minded people talking about the issues one together works for is always very motivating! I think I mentioned before that Katharina and I volunteer quite a lot of an exchange organisation. And while the volunteering is fun, it can also be very tiring. So it always a very welcome break to go to weekends where we meet up with other volunteer to talk about what we are doing and how we can improve it.

What a fun idea! :thumbsup2

Live Bait Badge: for anyone who’s been bitten by a dog, cat, bat, or any other animal with real teeth. (I immediately thought of this badge, when I got bit this week, and was sad that I missed out on this one, by only a week!!! I could have gotten a brownie mix!)

I am really sorry that your bite was too late for earning a badge!! ;)

Is your hand getting better? I hope you are still on your way to a ful recovery. :goodvibes

It will be VERY weird not having all our kids with us on this trip!! But fewer bags and carryons to count 35 times. :thumbsup2

It was a mini-TR I stuck in one of the parts of this PTR. I don't remember which one, but will go back and look.

It really does help to know that others struggle in the same areas that you do, and really helpful to brainstorm ideas on how to be more efficient or useful in what you do. I totally agree!

Ah well, homemade brownies are so much better anyway! :cloud9:

Still hurts to flex my thumb back much. I can see bruising there, but didn't think I'd been bitten there? :confused3

If you have a good brownies recipe, I would be very happy to get a copy of it! :goodvibes

I think when you get a bruise it is something like you are "internally bleeding" (this sounds horrible, but I don't know how to call it in English, what I mean is that blood vessels are damaged and the blood now leaks out into the tissue/flesh - ok, that still sounds horrible...) and since the blood moves around, the bruise can actually be at a different point from where the initial damage was done. I once had a really bad bruise when I fell off a horse and it moved from half way up my calf down towards my ankle over time.

Haven't quite gotten to the brownies yet today. Every time I stand up, my stomach cramps up. but I"m craving them nonetheless.

I think you're right about the bruising being sometimes "displaced" from where the actual damage might be. I also think that when it happened, I might have violently pulled my hand back pulling things worse than if I'd just been still- but that's hard to do with teeth embedded in one's flesh.

Anyway, we lost one of the pups today. Mikki voluntarily buried it in the garden, and the kids really are taking it in stride. We have no idea how it happened, but suspect Diasy stepped on it or rolled on it. Poor thing.

Ah well, one less to give away....

Will the contestant who had the apple and chocolate dessert martinis please stand up??

Who was that??

Where was that??

...yeah maybe so. The cotton pads they had to sleep on were hard as rocks. By morning my hips ached!

Ahhh...this brings back a flood of memories! When I was in the monastery we made our straw beds - the nuns chose to make them rather than buy the beds ready made because we knew how to stuff them firmly.

It had to be stuffed to be as firm as possible - think a long flat rock. Every Saturday we would turn the mattress because by the end of the week there would be indentions made by our bodies and it could get almost comfy...so over it would go every Saturday morning to be sure no such indentions could form permanently.

I can attest that one never gets comfortable on a straw bed.... or rising at midnight to pray for 2 hours. Nevertheless, it was a very beautiful life holding the world in prayer every moment. We received so many letters everyday requesting prayer...from terribly sad situations, to health, to little Johnny needing help in school - it is quite humbling to be entrusted with the cares and concerns of others.

Sorry for the digression...but that's what you get for triggering sweet memories!;)

Thank you so much for recounting such rich memories for us, Christine!! I love that this thread is a place for all kinds of differenct topics that we can share together- the hard, the wonderful, the distant, and the hopeful!!

I can imagine that straw and cotton are very similar to sleep on. Not exactly memory foam, are they?? :lmao: But I suppose after middle of the night prayers, EVERY night, one would be tired enough to sleep on just about anything. ;)

What a fun excursion. Sounds like an adult vacation bible school. Jack and I enjoyed a VBS last week here in TN. We had a very uplifting and fun experience.
The scenery was beautiful.

Glad you are starting to feel better

Just popping in to say hi! :wave2:
I love the merit badge idea! Hey you teachers out there......

Anyhoo. up doing this:laundy: and thought i would pop in and catch up on TR's...

Looked like you had a great time at the retreat.

I love the birch trees! The badge thing was a great idea.

I also took a jog this morning. I went back to Week 5 Day 1, as I thought the higher altitude might mess me up some. The only thing that ended "messing me up" was the time I had to dodge a dead, rotting sheep carcass on the dirt road. You think I make this stuff up, don't you?! I desperately wished I had had my camera!

I had to dodge a dead, rotting mouse carcass yesterday. I didn't think to take a picture of it...by today it might have been carried off.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times....

It was exactly that. Worship and teaching and networking in the mornings, beach, pools and games in the PMs, and cabbage in between. I miss VBS, but this comes awfully close! My kids ADORE annual conferences with kids who understand them because they are livin' it too.

Thanks, Jessica!! Another week or so, and I should be all set. The clinic called me though today, and are INSISTING I come in. I didn't understand what for, and not sure what will happen if I don't, but I guess we'll see tomorrow...

It's PERFECT for teachers! The idea isn't really to create bragging rights, it's more just for fun and a great conversation starter.

I just started doing dishes again today; dog bites are good for something. :rolleyes1

We did! Birch trees rock! So pretty.

Dodging dead carcasses when running is a great distraction from the pain in your lungs and thighs. Well, at least for me. Maybe your lungs don't burst anymore when you run. :confused3

The lung thing is the only issue. My legs and everything else feel fine when running. I think, if it wasn't for this breathing thing, I could go way faster.

Yeah, I guess breathing is one of those annoyingly necessary things we have to do. It's exceptionally annoying when the air is filled with putrifying animals or burning trash.

I got way more sore from the 5K I did day before yesterday than I thought I would. I guess I didn't walk my cool down long enough?? :confused3

I'm secretly glad you didn't have your camera when you came across the dead rotting sheep. :rotfl2:

I'm glad you were able to relax (?) at your retreat. :goodvibes

I will admit that Pepe's isn't my favorite but it is a nice treat when down in the New Haven area. Did you know there is a Pepe's at Mohegan now too?

CT pizza is the best. ::yes::

I didn't know about the one at Mohegan. They opened one in Fairfield I think, but I haven't tried that one either. The only New Haven pizza place I've had is Bar. They use to trade us pizzas for movie tickets. :thumbsup2 It was some really good pizza too. We had the same deal for the original hamburgers from Lou's Lunch. I miss those days!

This picture made me think of Snow White and the 7 dwarves with the beds all lined up. :rotfl: At least this part of your trip sounds like it went a bit better. (Bedding issues not withstanding).
