We're looking to go the week before Easter (checking in on March 30th). Cornado Springs is $124 (AP rate), CPGV would be $99.xx for a 2 bedroom villa.
It's for me, DH, and DDs (12 & 10) and we use our own vehicle to get around. We usually stay on Disney grounds (POR most often) or some deluxes when the price has been right. We've stayed once at CSR, it was okay but not our favorite. Stayed once at a value and vowed never again. Last time we went we started at Buena Vista Suites (didn't like that) and then moved to Caribe Royale, which we liked.
We do spend time at the resort we are at - we go to the parks in the morning, swim in the afternoon, back to the parks at night.
I really need to make a decision on CPGV (I've made a ressie already for CSR), the extra room and the money would be nice, I'm just afraid we won't like it there...:worried:

If you'll do a search on this board, you'll find lots and lots of info about CPGV.

We were just there the week before Christmas, and we loved it. Our biggest regret was that we didn't really have time to enjoy the resort itself. It's less than a mile from Downtown Disney with restaurants of all kinds in the immediate vicinity.

The resort has loads of organized activities for the kids (arts & crafts, ping pong tournaments, mini golf tournaments, etc., etc.). There are 3 pools including the volcano pool with the slides. The store/deli onsite has good pizza (and they give you coupons when you check in).

I particularly liked CPGV, because all of the buildings surround two of the pools, the playground, and the activities building (I think there's another one over at CP) - great layout.

We also had a 2BR at CPGV. It was very spacious. I only had two minor complaints. 1) You had to be careful when leaving to make sure the door shut all the way. 2) Check the sliding glass doors (both sets) to make sure the bar is up on them to prevent them being opened. Neither of the bars were up on ours.

I've never stayed at Coronado Springs, but I've been to conferences there. My brother and his family just stayed there in October while he was at a conference there. They really liked it.

For my family, I like having more room (and bathrooms). My brother prefers a hotel room, because he doesn't want to have to "do anything" (at CPGV, you have to put all the linens in front of the washer and put the garbage outside the door in the trash closet).

Have a great trip!

ETA: I got my week (Dec. 16th-23rd) off ebay for $300 - much less than the going rate. I was a little leary, but I'm sold now.

It's apples and oranges.

After becoming accustomed to condos/townhomes/houses, our family (two adults, DS6 and DD8) can stay in a "regular" hotel room for one night. Maybe two. After that, we can't take it any more. We also make ample use of the kitchen and the washer/dryer and the extra bathroom(s).

On the other hand, condos have no maid service (unless you pay extra), no room service (unless your life partner makes you breakfast in bed), and often not much in the way of on-site dining.

In the end, for our family, the extra space is worth paying extra for--when looking onsite we only consider two rooms, a family suite, or a Ft. Wilderness cabin. The fact that offsite condos are cheaper than Disney moderates is just a bonus. But, every family has to decide what kind of vacation they want for themselves.

Brian Noble brings up a great point about the washer/dryer. That's one of my favorites. I don't have to pack nearly as much, and I take home clean clothes (just unpack and back in the drawer).

This particular trip we only ate out (usually we do fix at least breakfast "at home"), but the fridge is great for soft drinks, leftovers from the restaurant, etc.

BTW, there's a Wal-Mart Supercenter on 535 (a little ways south). It has both a reasonably priced grocery store plus anything else you might need or have forgotten (even Disney t-shirts).

One small point - the unit we had at CPGV didn't have a DVD player (just a VCR). It wasn't a big deal to us though. I think they're scheduled to get them, but they hadn't been changed out when we were there.

weluvpluto,

We have never stayed onsite, but we too are used to and love the space we get with the rooms at Cypress Pointe. Although staying onsite looks really cool, we wouldn't give up the relaxing atmosphere and spacious accomodations we find at Cypress Pointe. Especially when travelling with kids.
(the location is another great asset of this resort - lots of good choice restaurants close by)
There are also some worthwhile reviews to read on tripadvisor.com, this way you'll have a wide array of opinions to help you decide.

Good Luck!

:)

Hi, sbclifton who did you get the rate from off of ebay if you don't mind me asking. On hotelkingdom.com we found a rate of $600 for a week stay which is pretty good I think but if we could find something even less this would be great. My email is ksteffey@sbcglobal.net. Thanks:)

you can rent from an owner
www.myresortnetwork.com
www.tug2.net

you have to paid to use this one
www.redweek.com

with CS you get 2 double beds - plus the action of a very active resort.

CP you get something you won't find at any Disney moderate resort - privacy.

depends upon you and what you need.

the resort pool is not as busy as Disney - but there will be kids in the pool. It has a hot tub - both in the pool and if your room.
