Orlando Sentinel aritlce on the new customized mickey mouse ears:

Magic Kingdom guests now can create their own variations of Disney's signature ear hats, even if that means choosing fuzzy trim or bejeweled ears that (gasp!) don't match. The Chapeau, a store near the entrance of the theme park, started offering options in the classic Mouse headwear last month, and it's the only place in the world where they are available.

"It's all about allowing the guest to customize," said Dara Trujillo, Disney's manager of merchandise franchise and synergy. "They can literally walk out of there and go 'I'm the only one who has this has this hat'.

The concept is Build-A-Bear meets Project Runway. Customers choose one of 19 bases to build upon, then add from 19 sets of ears. For further personalization, there are dozens of stickers representing princesses, pirates and other Disney icons that can be permanently attached to the base.

I made mine a few weeks ago with my ds, I have lime green ears, lime green base with blue mickey heads on it, with goofy on the front. I chose the lime green in honor of the DIS, and as an added bonus, the green ears glow in the dark!!! My son noticed this on tom sawyer isleand. NICE!!! I think I'm gonna make some for my step daughter when we're there friday for the P&PP!!

I can't wait for pictures of these.

We stopped in this past Friday. We were in Disney with my family celebrating my parents 50th anniversary, so we made them a set of gold mickey ears.
Each piece of the hat is priced individually. For example, you pay a price for the base, for EACH ear, appliques for the base, stickers for the ears, and embroidering the name.

Wow, this suprises me! Three years ago, a friend tried to get a mouse hat for another friend and they almost wouldn't sell her JUST beause she wanted a nickname on the hat. And now they are letting people bling out the mouse ears? A lot changes in three years it seems

I had some black ones with my name on from the 15 year anniversary. That was the only time I was there. We are taking our boys 4 and 8 this June. It looks like they will be about 20something a piece now. I am ready to get some purple ears!
:woohoo: :banana: :cheer2:

Yes! No nicknames!

<cue flashback music...>

I remember watching a classmate get into it with a CM when we were there for a school trip in the 80s. Her name was "Jiffy" and the CM refused to embroider that on the ears, claiming it was a nickname. By the time the CM + manager finally caved in and embroidered her ears, there were about seventeen obnoxious teenaged girls in that little shop, all screaming "But it's her REAL name!!!" I'm sad to say that I may have been one of them... :rolleyes1:

It was more than ten years later that I found out through her mother that her birth name was, in fact, "Jennifer." But no one, and I mean NO ONE, ever called her that. It even said "Jiffy" on her driver's license.

So, in the end, the CM was *technically* correct. :scared: D'oh!
