O.K. I have called every curves in my area and they don't like to answer the phone, so I know somebody here will have the answer.

Does anyone know how much a month it will cost me to join curves?
Will I have to sign a contract or is it a month by month thing?
How do you like curves?
Does it really work?

Thank you in advance for all your answers!

Basics: I paid around $75 to join, with a one-year contract that cost $29 per month. A month-to-month contract was $39 per month, same $75 join fee.

I liked Curves; it was not far from my house, and that made it easier to go 3 times per week.

However, their exercise plan works for some people and not for others. It's very easy, but if you have exercised much in the past or are in relatively decent shape, it will not be enough of a workout. If you need to lose weight and are sedentary for the most part, it will probably work well for you.

A little OT: I particularly liked their "diet"; it's a concept that my grandmother has used for 60 years and has worked for her. Here's how she does it: she gets on the scales every morning, and if she is at or over 130 lbs, she eats next to nothing until she's back under. She is very strict about. You can imagine if you do that everyday, you're never much over that weight (maybe a pound at the most), so the "dieting" to get back to your goal weight takes only a day or so.

Curves has a diet plan based on that concept, and it seems to work. It's much more scientific and involves counting calories or carbs, but it's basically the same idea. My mother is a dietician, and I loaned her the book, and she said it is a safe way to lose weight. Her philosophy is that you have to make a lifestyle change to be your healthiest, and that this "diet" is more of a lifestyle change as optimally you would adopt the eating habits permanently.

Curves holds classes every few months for this "diet", weekly meetings and such.

Sorry about the drift...

ditto on the basics. Make sure you check on their hours. Some Curves are closed in the afternoon. I think they're all closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

I still have a lot to lose & it's a good work-out for me. I like it because there are women like me there!

Try doing a search on here for Curves........there was a thread not long ago with many replies, pros and cons.......I for one couldn't find one that had compatable times for my work schedule it seemed the ones in my area catered to either old folks or women who didn't work! I hope you can find that thread because there was alot of info on it!

My local Curves is open from 6:30 a.m. (I believe) to noon, then closes to either 3:30 or 4:00, it depends on the day. Saturdays it's open from 7 to noon only. It isn't a really strenuous workout, BUT I guess, like anything else, it's what you put into it. I lost more inches than pounds because of the exercise. It is nice to go to a women only place and the group there is very nice. I usually go three to four times a week right after work. My friend and I use the buddy system to stay motivated.

Wow thanks for the info. I know I could get information quick here.

I joined my Curves for $109 then paid $29 per month for a year. I liked it because it was all women-no meat market effect like in some gyms. It was so laidback. I was there for a year.

I did notice every woman that worked at my Curves was very overweight and I'm not sure about that. DH thought it was to make us feel better while working out. I thought they should be more like role models for us. You know, like, "Look at me-I'm in great shape!! I work at Curves!" I also felt like they didn't have much expertise at mine. They were women off the street who were basically paid to take measurements, show women how to work the equipment and do the paperwork. And each of them showed you a different way to work the equipment and called it correct. But I did enjoy it. I never lost any weight there though and I worked out 3 to 5 times per week.

I now belong to a regular gym that's a total meat market, but I just ignore that. I have a personal trainer who helps me a lot and I can vary my workout. I like to work on specific areas or maybe somedays just do an elliptical with no weight training and you can't do that at Curves. It's the same workout equipment every time.
