When I first heard the offer, I thought we couldn't turn it down because it was to good. After talking to our guide and learning we wouldn't receive 08 points, it isn't any better then when we purchased SSR last year.

Purchased in August 2007 160 points
$104 a point with a $10 discount = $94 a point
We received our 160 points for UY March 07 (btw because we were there when we purchased in 8/07 and wouldn't be returning until next year, we rented the 08 points so I look at it as if we paid $84 a point)

If we purchased this August the "add on".
$104 a point with a $8 discount = $96 a point
We would not receive our UY March 08 points but would receive SSR developer points so it is a wash.
We would receive a $500 gift card but we are paying $2 more per point then we did last year.

Your thoughts on the current offer?

I think your use year is the problem with the current offer for your specific add on. I'd change my use year if possible to get the '08 points if you really want to add on. But barring a UY change then no this isn't the best deal for adding on since the latter half of the UY's are getting double the points you are just for having a June or later UY.

So, does this mean if you add on with an October UY (for example), you would get the 2008 points - since technically October UY is still in year 2007.

Is this correct?

One option (that we're pursuing) is to wait-list for Jambo points with a March UY (April UY, in our case). The incentive still applies, but you would get 08 points. Of course, it may be that no points come available in the next 3 weeks, but I'm sure hoping they do for us!!

And, yes, if you have a later-in-the-year UY you would get 08 points, but that is because May 1, 2009 would be in your 2008 UY. If I understand correctly, those points would either need to be used for vacations between May 1, 2009 and the end of your use year or else banked - so they're also not "normal" points.

The problem is that Jambo House is sold out and so Disney does't have 2007 and 2008 points left to sell for most use years.

The soonest Kidani points can be used is May 2009.

I am on a waitlist for 100 AKV points as an addon. If they get to me I will take it because I will get 2008 points. If they do not get to me I will pass. I will not start paying a loan on points that I will not get until Aug '09, nor will I start paying MF's next May on points that do not have. I don't need the SSR developer points because I have no plans to stay there by next year. We will be at BCV and AKV next year. If tht '08 points come in I will jump on them. My fingers are crossed.

Now I'm confused...If you have an August UY, why wouldn't you get 2008 (Kidani) points that could be used for reservations between May -Aug 2009 (or banked)?

Unlike many of the other posters here, I do not think DVC's current offer is all that great. Compared to many past offers, I would say it is only okay. Obviously there have been many years of offers, but recent offers have included much less restrictive Developer Points, larger per point discounts, benefits for those with a Disney Visa, and none of the headache of the current "Kidani will not open until May 2009 and with my current use year ..." madness. And, yes, I see that this offer is better for some buyers than others, but that has been the case with other DVC promotions: Disney Visa and owner referral offers come to mind.

Having said all that, this is the bottom line: with the possible exception of initial releases, whenever you want to buy there will be some sort of incentive on the currently offered property. To debate how good this deal is compared to a past deal is silly since you cannot go back in time. If we could, wouldn't we all go back and buy OKW at $50 per point with free Annual Passes! And since no one knows what may or may not be offered in the future, all we can say is that it may or may not be better than what is offered today. If you want to buy now, buy; if you want to wait for something better, wait; if you want to debate the past, take a history course at your local community college.:teacher:

they're looking for a Jambo add on not Kidani. Those points would be available for immediate use.

I think it just depends on where you want your add-on points. We were interested in AKL and this offer reeled us in. Do I think it was their best incentive? No..but good enough.:goodvibes

We are Oct. UY and we get 08 points. Our SSR contract is Oct. too. Now when we bought in Jan. 07 at SSR. We GOT 06 points plus 300 developer points and then in Oct. we got 07 points. We felt like we HIT THE LOTTO.

I agree with pp that said the deal is ok. There have been offers for AKV earlier this year at Doorway to dreams in Chicago that included $10 per point discount, develpoer points, current UY points, and 2 AP's. All for a minnimum of 110 points purchased.
