My husband and I are thinking of becoming members. Something came up though, and we missed the tour while at WDW.

We have a 1 yo daughter and his 6 yo son. I know we will be traveling to Disney at least once a year because we will stop there while on our drive to visit relatives in Miami (Born and raised there, therefore done Disney a million times!)

Please don't answer if this is too personal of a question, and I apologize in advance if it is. Just want to make the right choice before I commit to anything.

BLT is our home resort. We got 350 points but it really depends on you and how much you plan on going, where you want to stay, etc. We also chose for it to be 350 in two separate 175/each contracts that could be given to our children on down the road. We love to go over Thanksgiving. That tends to take some extra points. We know we will love BLT because it is right next to the Magic Kingdom which is the main reason we bought. We LOVE to walk to the Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary. Now, we have the ability to stay at Bay Lake Towers and do the same. This is what sold us! Of course, you may choose a different number of points and you may prefer to walk to MGM and Epcot, in which case BW may be for you. Any way you choose, on property Disney vacations can not be beaten. :tinker: They are magical.:disrocks:

AKV - The view of the animals and hands down some of the best dining on property (Boma and Jiko).

Well a big HOWDY and welcome from a fellow Texan! Our's is at BWV with 400 pts. We purchased it through Disney in 98'. We love the theming of the resort and the fact that is between Epcot and DHS. We're able to walk to or from either park to our resort. It makes for a nice leisure down time on the way home. Another reason for choosing BWV was it having seven grand villas. My wife has always wanted to be at Disney for Christmas. So at Christmas 2007, all of our children, and their families gathered at Disney in a GV form Christmas day to after New Years. What a wonderful time we all had. This is a picture of the balcony, outlined it white rectangle, our GV had....awsome view!

In two weeks, we're taking our yongest grandson, as well as his mon and dad, to Dinsey for his very first visit. He won't quite be 2yo then, but this is just the first of many trips to Disney with Pa and Grand E to come! I'm really looking foward to it. So far we're been able to introduce all of our grandchildren to Disney by attending MNSSHP!

Our home is BWV, but we have only stayed their 4 times since 1998. We have found VB and HHI to be our favorites. However, when we stay in "The World" nothing beats the convenience of BWV or BCV.

We own at OKW and have 250 points, but would love more. We bought a resale back in 2000. We loved the size of the rooms and the relaxed and homey feeling. We have stayed at other DVC properties. This Jan we will do a split stay at OKW and then VWL. For us we are happy with our purchase.

Our home resort is Bay Lake Tower and we bought 160 points. The reason why we bought into BLT is due to it's location, amenities and the many years we had ahead of us. The location can not be beat, short walk or monorail ride to MK or a monorail ride to Epcot. The rooms are gorgeous, the amenities provided are great and the contract ends 50 years from now which means we have many, many, many years to enjoy our DVC. We bought 160 points because it's the least amount of points you can purchase directly through Disney and in a year or 2 we would like to add-on to our current contract and at Boardwalk Villas.

We were going to buy into Boardwalk Villas but figured we would pay practically the same price and eventually we would have to pay more if we want to extend our contract.

We have 210 points at BLT and are buying a 100-point AKV contract (we were notified today that our offer passed ROFR!). We bought BLT because we like the location: Walking distance to MK (especially important when we have family members with little kids staying with us), direct access to the monorail, and because we can walk to MK's bus stop and catch a bus that goes directly to any WDW resort. Also, we lived for many years in a condo in downtown Denver, and BLT's appearance really appealed to us because it reminds us of our former lifestyle. We are adding an AKV contract because we love its animals and savanna views. Name another hotel in the U.S. where you can sit on your balcony and watch giraffes, elands, zebras, okapis, ostriches, and other animals walk by your room.

Our Home Resort is Saratoga Springs and we have 185pts. We had the choice of AKV or SSR when we took the tour. Although we thought AKV was nice, it was just too dark for us. SSR is bright and more to our taste. We have stayed at SSR three times now and can't wait to go back in May.

Eventually we'll add on, but for right now we'll make due.

Home resort: Villas at the Grand California (DLR)
Points: 276
Why: We live 3 hours from the DL resort, we have DLR APs, we love The Grand, we normally do two trips to the DLR a year anyways, and 276 points allows us to book 2 three night stays in a one bedroom AND allow another family to join us in a studio (so we get a two bedroom lock-off for those trips), AND be able to donate a one or two night stay at the GCV to our school's fund raising auction.

We have four home resorts-

VWL - 350 For the on site theme, and theming of this great resort.
AKV - 450 Same as above, but extra points for the grand villa.
VB - 300 My wife loves the beach, and I like having an off site getaway.
VGC - 300 We love Disneyland, and love the Grand Californian.

I feel we have things just about right..

:cool1: OKW , five Feb. use year contracts totaling 400 points. why.......because we love to :laundy: "hange" :laundy: out there . :cool1:

We have 220 points at AKV. Why AKV? It was what they were selling at the time. I had been investigating for a while, but I had to "convince" DH. I booked a surprise trip to BWV in a 1 BR, and we took the tour when we were there. He was convinced. BLT was still a "Super Walmart". That's what I really wanted, but it was before they announced it, and before the points chart was released  . The price difference and the points chart are what initially made me glad we bought AKV. And THEN...we stayed there a few weeks ago. Wow!!! Like someone else said...where else can you stay and watch the zebras, giraffes, etc from your balcony? I love the furniture...there's SO much detail, and the parking, and the size of the rooms, and the # of bathrooms, etc.

And why 220 points? Minimum was 160. We started with that. But we have 3 adult children, so we knew we needed more points, but weren't sure how many. Oldest DD wanted to go on Developer Points, but she couldn't go with us due to her schedule, so we added 60 points before our contract was even signed. And now...we really could use more points.:lmao:

Hi again :)
My 'home' resort is OKW..I bought 25 points resale to get in the DVC system so that I could get a VGC contract at less than the minimum 160 when they came available. I have 125 VGC and although I'd love to have more, that number fits my budget. OKW because, frankly, the points per stay are the best around. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get BCV because I really like that resort and its location.
My real home resort is VGC because I find it so easy to get to California and I'm a real DLR fan (I've only been to WDW once, and it was just OK). I also think that VGC is the best location of any DVC property. Amazingly close to all the action. No busses and hardly any walking required :)

1993 - OKW for 230 pts. Why? Easy, it was the only DVC at the time and 230 pts is what we could afford. It was tight then but we have never been sorry for that investment - one of the best we've ever made. At the time, there was also the incentive of park passes through 1999. With 230, we could make at least 2 trips per year and we did! We were living in Atlanta at that time and it was an easy drive - with the free passes it was a pretty inexpensive vacation :)

2003 - Saratoga Springs for 250 pts. Why? We liked the close proximity to DTD and felt that 480 total points afforded us the flexibility for multiple family trips.

We've stayed in all the DVCs but still prefer the stand alone DVCs not connected to a hotel. OKW remainds our favorite. However, we 're staying at BLT in November for the first time and that may change our minds!

175 BCV - because my kids love the pool, and you can walk to Epcot and HS. 170 VWL - because it is our favorite resort by the MK. We love the feel and theme of the resort, and the boat to the MK. We bought both of these for the 11 month booking window. 200 OKW - play points for booking at the 7 month window, and for using for cruises, etc. I think we need about 150 more BCV points, and we will be done!!

I don't think I'm the typical DVC member. I have 1,250 points spread across six home resorts.

I just enjoy going to WDW and DLR! ;)

Boardwalk Villas, 150 points, we fell in love with BWV years ago and bought resale where we wanted to stay. We have tried most of the other DVC resorts and have no problem at all with staying at any of them if our BWV is not available, but with the 11 month booking window we can get ALMOST any room we want when we want it at BWV.

You will see a lot of good advice on the DIS boards, but for us the best piece of advice you will get from the "experts" here is BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY!!

WOW I am loving this thread. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

DVC Mike, aren't you kinda famous??? I keep running into your stuff online.

We have 30 points at BWV, cause that was the smallest resale contracts that I could find at one of our top 3 choices.. Then we added on 125 at BLT! We would like to add on more someday, but just not ready quite yet.
