I am allergic to wheat & gluten- I also have Diabetes

I normally handle my diabetes fairly well at Disney - medications and watching my carbs-

I only recently found out (in a very hard way:) I am allergic to wheat and Gluten. I thought it may be nice to do a review of my dining experience at the Crystal Palace- it is only my 1st time to a table service meal with an allergy (for the diabetes I just order or plate food and eyeball servings, watch my carbs) at WDW

making the reservation:
I called the night before for a lunch reservation. they had a 1:00 opening not bad as I could have a small snack at 10 and be good to go. I told the CM at least 3 times of my allergy:) they had no problems noting it.

we try to check in early- sometimes it works - sometimes not. so we got there at 12:40. was in by 12:50.
They told me when I made my reservations that the waitstaff would automatically send a chef out- after the waitress took our drink order ,she said help yourself to the food. I told her I had a allergy and she said Oh I didn't know and I will send out the chef.
2 minutes later the Chef arrived.
she was so COOL!

She walked me thru the menu at the Buffet, telling me what was ok and answering my questions.
She told me I will bring you gluten free rolls and dessert
I told her 1 roll and tiny dessert:)

I enjoyed flank steak, salad, fruit salad and a small spoonful of Spoon bread
( no wheat flour- the chef said they make it that way on purpose!) I also had half my roll, green beans, carrots and a really yummy cabbage dish- I made sure I had spoonfuls of food and NOT big servings so I could sample a bit of everything that was allowed.

then out came my dessert- too much and if I didn't make hubby take it away I would have gone into sugar overload:)
So I had a few small tastes of the chocolate brownie cake :lovestruc

the chef and waitress were so nice Chef was a bit to the point but so really, really nice.

It was a really nice experience and I enjoyed my meal- unlike other places outside of WDW where eyes are rolled & sighs of frustration when asking for modified foods.

Don't be afraid to ask or speak up to your needs:)

Thank you for the report and I am glad to hear you had a happy tummy and palate. Psst, ask for a to go box for the dessert next time but then again sharing is caring, lol. Great report.:thumbsup2

CP has always been very wonderful for us in the past. FYI for those that don't know Disney does like 48 hour notice to make sure they have the correct supplies on hand if you have extensive allergies. They handle gluten-free very well.

Disney is the first place I have not had to cook on vacation for DD.
