There is almost certainly a slowdown---and not just at Disney, and not just in Florida. There is a well-documented decrease in international arrivals in the US. Delta lowered their 1Q25 guidance based on reduced domestic demand---both leisure and business. Other airlines have also reduced guidance, but I haven't dug into the why yet on any of them.

A lot of the ski clubs are getting much better prices for Europe than they have in the U.S. As for Canada, a lot of it may be related to their dollar being quite a bit weaker than the U. S. dollar.

Companies that have loosened their purse strings for corporate travel seem to be tightening them back up again…

I met a very nice Canadian couple in the laundry room of Bay Lake Tower when I went in January before all the tariff stuff.

They were DVC members and were telling me all about their history with DVC, how when they bought it was wonderful and they even gave them free points for purchasing and at the time it was well worth the conversion rate of their money, but now it has just gotten too expensive all around.

Disney prices raises, their flights, their dollar being much weaker than before. They love their DVC, but sadly this would most likely be their last trip as they were needing to sell, not wanting to, because of the expenses. I can only imagine the sentiment now for some.

Something to keep in mind is that people who are looking to buy DVC are also potentially the least impacted by the current economy and will feel it the least.

I think it will drop slightly but I could also see it weird jumping up because more people look to "lock in" vacation costs and others look to keep their vacation costs "locked in". If you have a DVC contract and sell it are you going to get a vacation for cheaper of similar quality?

Also true.

In at least Delta's case, they believe it is also a softening of domestic leisure demand, and not just business.
The CEO walked back earlier projections on an EC and had to suck it up and say both were significantly down and they expected them to remain down for the rest of the year.

Another question - Is using a VPN set to Canada or UK going to actually help with lower airfares on individual airline sites? Or is that an urban myth? I assume I'd need to sign out of my accounts before searching.

Yet, I'm Canadian, and on the verge of owning my very first DVC points.

Yep, it seems silly to me to sell when you still enjoy going, even if prices have gone up. Not to mention with all the cool stuff coming in the next few years and the dream that they will open a 5th gate someday in response to Universal's expansion. Hopefully they have cheap resale points and not direct points so they don't take a big hit. But depending on how many points they have, if I were in their shoes I would just try something a little different.

Maybe try to go for a little longer each trip, but a little less often. if it was once every year, then maybe use banking/borrowing to do a trip every 1.5 years but a few days longer. That would save 1/3 on travel costs, and tickets to the park cost less the more days you go. So there would be savings there as well doing 2 trips with an extra park day or two vs 3 trips with slightly less park days.

Or you can keep the same number of park days and then you are saving 1/3 the total cost on the tickets over time as well. You could even do a resort only stay (if you like that) every once in a while and skip the parks, that would be a big savings with no park costs for that year as well.

They bought direct, but it was a long time ago when direct was cheaper so who knows maybe they will even make a profit

I also think everyone is different with their priorities….

We love Disney - specifically DVC & DCL… We love their standard for high service, we love just how clean the rooms are and how cared for they are (with the exception of not replacing furniture fast enough). The Mousekeeping staff and the stateroom attendants are truly remarkable. The Disney Difference is so clear with the family atmosphere and the cast members.

That said, we are FL based - so we buy annual passes, can get VGT Florida rates if we want, we can drive to the parks, and honestly we prefer the resorts considerably to the parks. We like DVC because it forces us to take a vacation, and because we like large room accommodations instead of “regular hotel rooms”.

If we lived in New York, would most of our vacations be through Disney, probably not. We just don’t like it “enough” and we have some apprehensive flyers in the family. Our family trips would probably look more like driving to Ontario or driving to Vermont or New Hampshire.

If we ever move out of Florida, I think our travel/vacation habits are likely to change. And that’s why we are unlikely to buy another direct contract ever again. We want the flexibility of a smaller haircut.

It will be interesting to see if there are changes in how that feels moving forward.

I know that when we have visited Canada we always get ribbed a little by Canadian customs and asked if we are bringing in cigarettes…. but going back into the US is always so much more of a pain.

Fast FWD to today and as a US citizen I don’t want to leave the US right now because I don’t feel comfortable with the uncertainty of trying to renter the country….

Wow. I had no idea that people felt like this.

We just visited Colorado and flew back to the UK last night. There were absolutely no issues either in or out.
