Cruisin' MAYniacs - May 14-17, 2009

:wave2: Hi Jenni! :welcome:
Welcome to the group. My Grandmother lives in Overland Park so we are very familiar with your neck of the woods!

Hey Shannon! Hope you had a great day and hey to everyone else!!:wave2:

Thanks for the warm welcome Shannon! :wave2: It does look like we have a lot in common. Where in Iowa do you visit? We're actually north of KC, closer to IA.

You said you were going to carry on a soft-sided cooler, is that for "adult" beverages? We were able to bring some alcohol on our Carnival cruise but didn't know if that was allowed on Disney...

My dad is in Maxwell just outside of Des Moines.

Yeah I am planning on taking on "adult" beverages and some of those mini pop cans and water bottles just to keep in the room. From what I have read here on the boards it doesn't appear to be a problem to take "adult" beverages onboard as long as they are in your carryon.

Shannon

I think we may have to bring some beverages on board (if we have any left from our grocery delivery in the parks). Too bad no adult beverages..........I abstain since Reece's liver transplant. Can't stand the mournful look on his face:rotfl:

I don't make it to Des Moines much but have gone a couple times for conferences for work. My son had a couple baseball tournaments in Overland Park last spring/summer, it's a nice area.

Thanks for the beverage info. I'll probably try to carry on some water and maybe some Diet Dr Pepper if all they have is Coke products. And we might throw in something a little stronger for mixing once in awhile. :thumbsup2

I'm also trying to make the trip a surprise for our kids. I was thinking about not telling them until we pull up at the airport, but I don't know if I can keep it from them that long. They're old enough now that they catch onto those little comments that used to go right over their heads. Plus all my friends know so it's probably only a matter of time before someone slips. Any ideas on how I can tell them about the big trip?

Jenni

Are you all still thinking about doing a fish extender group? I was reading about them and showed the thread to a co-worker, and she said she wants to make me one. She's the crafty sort!

Anyway, I'm hoping there will be a fish extender exchange on our cruise so I can put it to good use!:thumbsup2

Jenni

Count me in for the fish extender exchange. I think it would be the icing on the cake for the boys (ok, me too...) Iv'e seen some really cool ideas in other threads.

Hope everyone has had a great week. I don't know about ya'll but I am really glad it is Friday! Is everyone subscribed to the thread or am I the only one who anxiously checks my email everyday to see if there are any new posts?:rotfl: :rotfl:

Glad to see I am not the only addict!!! :rotfl2:

I can't check my home email at work but I check the site a couple of times a day....just can't help myself! It is taking way too long for May to get here!!

So has anyone decided what you're going to do for excursions on the cruise? I'm leaning toward snorkeling and just relaxing on the beach at Castaway Cay.:beach:

Not sure about Nassau yet. A lot of what I read says to just stay on the ship in Nassau. We'll probably at least want to get a t-shirt at the Hard Rock Cafe. We do that on all our trips, but Nassau will be the most exotic locale in our collection.

I'm also thinking about hitting Aquaventure, via a reservation at the Comfort Suites. I'm torn between having a nice relaxing day by the pool onboard and a crazy hectic fun day at Atlantis. My husband is no help, he wants me to plan it all and just tell him where to be and when. So what's everyone else doing?

Jenni

Jumping in here. We just booked last week for the 3 day Wonder. It's myself (31) DH and our DS who will be almost 3. DH and I cruised back in 2000 and are WDW veterans. Our DS has been 6 or 7 times I think. Cruising though is totally different so I am doing tonnes of reading and research as I feel like a complete newbie to this.

Looking forward to reading more and learning from the vets.

Jenni ... I don't think I've officially welcomed you to our group so to you and Stacy ... :welcome:!

We probably won't be doing any excursions to speak of this time around ... we've parasailed at Castaway Cay a few times and I do highly recommend it to anyone considering it!

I think for Nassau, I am looking into walking over to the Nassau Colonial Hilton ... I understand that you can pay a small fee, have access to their beach, restaurant/bar and even see the ship from the beach so we might do that. We did the straw market and the Pirate Museum and whatnot already so we'll just be relaxing this time around.

:welcome:

It's nice to have you in our group!! I'm keeping a "who's who" for our cruise ... it is located in post #2 so if you will give me your info, I will add you to our list!!

Please ask any questions!! This is our 3rd Disney cruise so I'm no "vet" but hopefully we can help you out where you need it!

:welcome: :jumping1: Welcome to our new folks!

Jenni-
Your DH cracks me up....he sounds just like mine. Reece's motto is "you plan it, just tell me where and when to show up!":rotfl: However, I am thankful to have a DH who is so supportive of my eternal trip planning (ok, obsessing would be more like it if I were truthful:rolleyes1 )

I was Nassau two years ago, so I have LOTS of plans if the boys can make it through the day:hyper:

First to the Wyndham for a couple of hours, then on to Atlantis to poke around and take pictures, then a little shopping (hard rock shirts and the straw market-I must be one of the very few that really enjoyed that place:lmao: ).

I am already planning on taking the boys back to the room, ordering room service and letting them snooze through dinner so we can go to Toy Story and then the pirate party (why is all the good stuff on the same night?)

I read on a previous thread if I let our servers know that we won't be there they will save our bandanas for us and I can go up and get them.

Whew! My back up plan is to hang loose........:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

My husband doesn't really care that much either ... he's not a super-participatory type of person (doens't get dressed up for pirate night, etc) ... but he isn't a total poop either! :rotfl2:

So we are just about 100% set for the trip ... I just booked our timeshare ... we will be staying at the Sheraton Vistana Villages and I am super excited. We have stayed at the Sheraton Vistana before but never at the Villages property. All I have to do is decide what parks we are doing and how we are doing them and we will be all set.

We fly in on Saturday ... so I am thinking Sunday will be a pool day ... Monday we will do Magic Kingdom ... Tuesday will be a pool day ... Wednesday will be Animal Kingdom ... and then Thursday morning before heading to the port, we will have breakfast at Chef Mickey's at 7:30 and that is where the surprise will be delivered!! I am telling the kids that we are going home on Thursday so that we have a reason to pack up the car and get out of the resort early!

Is anyone else doing any parks before or after the cruise??

Kat

WOW! This group is really growing!!!

We'll be doing the parks for 5 days, the cruise and then back to the parks for 2 days! I'm looking forward to staying at the AKV-Kidani. This will be our two days after the cruise!! We have a savannah view:cool1:

We have a Pirate Night on the 3 day? (can you tell I have to do more research?) I thought that was only on the 7 night?

Hey ya'll...from the Florida/Alabama line...this is our 2nd DCL, previously sailed the Magic and this one the Wonder! Can't wait as we have tried other cruises and nothing has seemed to compare. Our first cruise with our then 4 yr old (now 11)...we "came home with a surprise" , so this cruise will include her, now 5. This is also a "surprise" trip for our daughters as well. In fact we will be taking them out of school for this cruise. Hopefully, we can keep it a surprise as long as possible! Not sure of the correct lingo...but my husband and I are in our "early 40's":scratchin and our crazy girls are 11 and 5...Kayli and Rayni. Kayli (11) is in the 6th grade is very social...and Rayni (5) is very shy...would love to know some close to that age that she can hang with. Have a great day and see you in about 101 days...Kris

Hi Kris!! :welcome:

Its nice to have you in the group!! :grouphug:

We are also taking our kids out of school and also surprising them with the cruise. We are using our timeshare from sat-thurs and then telling them we are going home after breakfast at Chef Mickey's ... where we will have Mickey and Minnie hand them their boarding passes and then leave right from there. Can't wait!!

I have a daughter Gabi who is 11 and also very social. I'm sure they will get along just great. I will add you to the list that I am keeping (Post #2) of who is on the cruise ... just need your husband's name!!
