Cruisin' MAYniacs - May 14-17, 2009

Kat,

Here's our info:

Leagirl12: DW32 (Shannon), DH40 (Kerry), DS11 (Austyn), and DD10 (Kasey).

I had not seen that tip yet about using the highlighters...that is such a good idea.

The Travel Channel had a show on New Years Eve about DCL. I recorded it and we all sat down last night after dinner and watched it. It made the kids even more excited....they were actually able to see the ship and the the areas where the kids play.

I have ordered the DVD and am just waiting for it to get here so we can watch it together. :cool1:

DD (Kasey) is very excited about the shows. She hasn't really been to an actual musical but I have a feeling she will love them. She LOVES Wizard of Oz and she and I are going to see Wicked in April   so she will get her first taste of a musical then.

We had watched the 90's remake of Annie about a month before Christmas so I bought her the original on DVD and she was watched it about 10 times...she can sing the songs word for word. I hope that means she will like seeing them onstage just as much as watching the movie.

I hope so anyway because DS and DH want no part of it. :confused3

Well then I am glad that I mentioned it! :)

Do you want to include your hometown or state?

I'm sure she will love it! My daughter wants to see Wicked, too. Maybe I should look into that before its gone. We are 45 mins from the city and go very often so there is no reason not to!

Good Morning Ladies!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I've started the who's who in my first thread, thread #2 ... so that is where the master list will be kept so that it's easy to refer back to.

Maria, if you'd like, give me your husband's name and your kids' names and your hometown and we'll be all set.

:)

Hey, looks like I'm the old gal in this group so far!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

So I am asking my Cruise Girls to keep your fingers crossed for me. I scheduled our cruise knowing it would mean taking the kids out of school a few days but with DH's schedule it was the only time we could go. I figure with it being the end of the year it shouldn't be an issue. Well today I read the Attendance Policy for the school system and it says if students miss three or more days in a 9 week period they will get a failing grade for that nine week period. My kids are going to miss exactly 3 days. :guilty:

I called DD's school and found out that her principal will usually give students a principal approved excuse for two days in a year. So I have sent her an email.

I have not had a chance to talk to DS's school but I am hoping it is the same situation. DD is in 4th grade and DS is in 5th grade. He is in the middle school while she is at the elementary.

So I am asking that you keep your fingers crossed for me that we don't have any worries and everything gets approved!!!!

I have always said at this age I wouldn't take them out of school but we didn't really want to pass up the kids free deal. I just hate that DH's schedule meant we had to go when school was still in session.

Oh, I feel terrible for you, Shannon . . . I hope you can work it all out! I've sent some pixie dust your way!!!
pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

I have read about these very strict attendance policies, and I feel very lucky that we don't have anything like that at my kids' school.

I have taken them out every May for about 5-6 days for the last few years, but I have vowed NOT to take my kids out of school when they hit high school (Grades 9-12 here in Canada), mostly for their own sake of having to catch up with much tougher school work.

The teachers so far have been very supportive and give work either before and/or after they go away.

I hope it gets approved and this worry will be behind you soon!!!:goodvibes

Hi guy.s!
I just pm Kat our info, but I forgot to put my real name!
It's Cheryl and we are jumping on board with you guys

Our boys don't know yet that we are doing the cruise, they just think that we "might" be going back to Disney this year. They certainly don't have a clue we will be taking them out of school for a week.

I was in such a hurry to post when I finally saw there was a cruise thread started (I booked this in Sept-it's killing me! :rotfl: ), I didn't see anything about fish extenders yet.

I'd love to do this!

DH and I have cruised before, but this will be the boys first and all of our first DISNEY cruise.

Can't wait to get to know you guys!

:cool1:

Cheryl,

You are "official"!! I've added you to our who's who!

We are looking forward to getting to know you too. I am also surprising my kids ... I can't wait to see the look on their face. They think we are going HOME on Thursday after a few days at Disney. When the find out we are going on the Wonder, they will freak out!!

Ask any questions!!

Cheryl,

Welcome to the group!! How exciting this will be for your boys. I know my kids are very excited. This will be our first cruise ever. :yay:

I see your from Texas. I'll have to tell DD there will be kids from Texas on the boat....she will like that. Not sure where she got the love for Texas from but she wants to go there so bad. We plan to work it into a trip before too long.

Can't wait to get to know you!

Shannon

Yes ma'm, we are from TEXAS!! Round Rock to be exact, about 10 miles north of Austin. DH is actually a native Texan, but we had spent the last seven years in OK:eek: It pained Reece greatly that his son's birth certificates said Oklahoma.

We have been here about 16 months and couldn't be happier. I traded driving an hour to a grocery store, terrible schools, nothing around, to a neighborhood bigger than our old town:scared1: , great schools, and lots of stuff just within a few miles of my house.

However, I nearly passed out at house prices and property taxes:eek: But the boys are worth it, and we don't have much of a winter here at all. In fact, it was 75 here yesterday and 81 on Thursday!:dance3:

I hope you guys have a GREAT day!

Thank you for your application to join our group, Cheryl, but unfortunately you have to be over 39 to join as we already have too many people here younger than ME!!!

ha ha . . . just kidding!!

Welcome aboard!! It's so nice to have our group grow!!

What a great age your kids are for all the Disney magic onboard. We took our first cruise when my kids were 7 and 5, and it was amazing!! The magic is still so pure and wondrous when they are so young!!!

You will love meeting so many characters onboard . . . they are everywhere. Don't miss the character meets where there will be several at a table at one time. After our first trip (7 days), we spent a couple days at the parks, and the kids didn't even ask to meet the characters there because we had seen so many on the ship!!

Welcome again!!party:

Ha! Ha! I just told DD that there would be kids from Texas on our cruise and she said "Yeah!! Are they cowgirls?" I told her they were boys so then she wanted to know if they were cowboys. LOL! :rotfl:

I had to explain to her that not everyone that lives in Texas is a cowgirl or cowboy.

LOL! That's funny!!!!:rotfl2: Game geek (7 year old) and ninety mile an hour wild man (5) would be more accurate descriptions than cowboys.

So if you see a gorgeous blond boy hanging off the verandah, he's probably ours!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. We have been living on the Gulf Coast of FL for the last five years but are expecting to get back to our home state of Texas this year. (Just waiting on timing info from DH job). To celebrate our three girl's birthdays (and our 12th Anniversary!) we decided to try a Disney Cruise for the first time. We had Disney World passes in 2006 but haven't been back since January 07. We are super excited to get to experience all the Mouse magic again!

We just told our girl's tonight that we are going on the cruise. Since it is a combined birthday gift for them we had to tell them before they started trying to plan their birthday parties and make wish lists!

I am Jessica (36), DH 939), DD (9), DD (nearly 7 at cruise time), DD 4.

I'd love to hear more from experienced cruisers about shore excursions, Must Do's, what to avoid, and what to expect! What are these fish extenders that I've seen?
