Cruisin' and the Laundry

Busy laundry room on Deck 2 Wonder during both of our cruises. The flow in and out leading up to Formal Night was crazy busy with a line waiting to use the irons. I was surprised by this since I had never cruised before.

My frustration with the multi-generational family who loaded at least a dozen pairs of their muddy shoes into the washers and broke some as a result (Jamaica: maybe Dunns Falls?) and did not return to remove the shoes in a timely manner is well documented here. Truly unbelievable was that huge pile of shoes.

I didn't give it a second thought to remove clothes from the washers and dryers when the owners did not return in time. When there is a wait for machines on a vacation cruise ship, courtesy dictates that you have your body back in that room ready to manage your load when the cycle concludes.
We were just on the Wonder a couple of weeks ago, and used the laundry on deck 2. Crowded, yes, but manageable. My one and only gripe was that we would set a timer on our cell phones to coincide with the washer/dryer. Okay, sounds like a plan. However, when we arrived on time to get our things, some other person was in the process of removing our laundry before it was done. Now that is just rude and impatient.

I don't think you can open the doors on the washer until it's done. The dryer, yes, but not the washer.

That's why I time it to get back about 10-15 minutes beforehand, not "just" before.

Yeah, we learned that first hand. Later on we would show up a few minutes before the dryer was done to make sure. Oh, also as a side note, when using the dryers, make sure you set them on high. They only run 45 minutes and they default to medium heat. Your clothes probably won't be dry in that amount of time on medium.

Yes, the dryers are the worst for actually drying in one cycle. The worse I've seen anywhere!

Okay, so I checked out this link http://disneycruiselineblog.com/2013/01/onboard-self-and-full-service-laundry-and-dry-cleaning/

Can someone tell me what laundry room that first picture is of? I don't ever remember any of the laundry rooms on Decks 6 or 7 looking that big. I am assuming it is from one of the new ships, because it's huge!

It looks like the deck 9 forward laundry room on the Fantasy/Dream. I used this one last summer and it was nice having so many machines. I was really surprised to walk into the deck 8 aft laundry room on the Dream and find only 2 washers and 4 dryers.

If I remember right, that's how it is on the older ships. I think there are 2-4 washes and 2-4 dryers total.

If you hover the mouse over the pictures you get the link to the file of the picture. The first one with the six washers is called "9500" and that is the room oposite the deck 9 laundry room on the Dream/Fantasy. The second row of two pictures has "deck 8" in its file name, so I would assume that this is the deck 8 laundry room on Dream/Fantasy.

Thank you.

This is why we go ahead and budget for sending laundry out. No arguing. No fighting. No wet clothes on the floor. The worst part is the stupid little tags that they iron into the seam. If you forget them they can be really scratchy, and oftentimes in inconvenient places.

We did the 12 night Northern Europe last summer and my plan was to do laundry right at 1:30 when they open up the rooms. We had just spent 5 days in London prior to the cruise so we had a couple of loads to do. At 1:30, I went directly to the laundry room only to find a sign on the door that said it would open at 6pm. We had the early seating for dinner and by the time I checked around 7:15, it was packed! Luckily our room was just 3 doors down, so it was very easy to check if any machines were free. I found that early in the morning, before 7 am was a good time and rarely busy.

Our next cruise is a btb on the Fantasy in March 2017 :flower: I was thinking that I could do our laundry the morning we are back in PC before we have to get off the ship to clear customs and check in again. Has anyone noticed if the laundry rooms are empty on the last morning? I would think since everyone's bags are packed and out of their room, no one would be doing laundry. Am I correct to assume that or would after 10 pm on the last night be better?

Whether the laundry rooms are open on the last morning varies. Most of the time I've read that they were closed (just like for you on embarkation day). They have to clean up there, also.

Once in a while some one posts that they were able to throw their wash in the washer and then the dryer (with a post-it note attached explaining that they were B2B) before leaving the ship and then getting their laundry as soon as they reboard. Not often, however.

Ewh, honestly that's pretty classless to be putting muddy shoes in a communal washer where other people wash their baby things and underwear. Like, ick! How rude.

And some folks don't even pay attention that the washer doors are locked during cycle. I
I was sitting on the floor watching my washer and two women come in and start tuggng
on my washer door. "Hey stop that". Their clothes were in the dryer not the washer.

Thank you PrincessShmoo! I will try to find a quiet time during the first week of our cruise to get a load or two done.

Is this a recent price list? I may just budget for this and treat ourselves! The place we are planning to stay pre-cruise has a washer/dryer in each apartment, but we will only be vacationing for four days before we get onboard, so we won't have a huge load. Maybe we can get all the essentials done on the last night before we check out and have the ship do pants and tops.

Omggg we had in feb 2012 a stateroom across a laundry room NEVER again
I ask when I book just to make sure of it
That cruise my dh and I wanted almost out of that cruise
The yelling ... The never ending clicking of zippers in the dryers
The people yelling in the hallway "" heyyyyy mommmm come and bring me softener ""
I had chosen that cabin because as many says I wanted to pack light
But my experience with that is I now chooses to bring enough so I dont go there or uses dcl cleaning service
A very but very pushy lady looking almost every second if my washing machine had finish its cycle and as soon as I empty it almost push me aside to put her load in
One night a family screaming laughing loudly at midnight and I repeat veryyyy loudly
Granted those laundry rooms are a good thing
But for me ( us ) I will now on choose a stateroom very far down from those

Well, this photo was actually of a list from a previous cruise, but I brought one home from our recent cruise and it's the same. So, the prices were current as of 2 months ago.
