What are the advantages of getting a cabin with a balcony? Is it worth the money?

Hi Kylesmom :) I'll move your post onto the Cruise board !

Well, it is really a matter of personal opinion and finances, as well as how much you think you'll be in the cabin. If you have a child that naps, you might find you are in there more than most people. Then, it would be nice to have. They are a good bit more expensive though, so don't worry a bit about the fun you can have in a cabin with no verandah. The ship is fun whatever room you choose!

I personally would love the verandah for sailing into ports and really getting to watch the islands as we approach. But, we are a party of 5 and require 2 rooms. I won't get a verandah because I won't allow my children in a room with one when I'm not directly with them.

Many people report they are not in the room much, so on a 3 or 4 night cruise, it might not get used as much as a 7 night.

It is probably a call most often made based on personal finances more than anything else.

Good luck!

IF it is doable though I would highly recommend a veranda, especially if you have children with you, the veranda is like an extra "room' at night when DS needed to chill out he would watch tv in bed and DH and I would sip wine on the veranda, it to me is one of the best feelings in the world. I do spend a lot of time on it, I love it especially on at sea days just watching the world go by...

It so great! We have two small boys and the extra space was wonderful. My DH and I would have coffee out on the verandah every morning and it was so nice and relaxing to just take in the ocean and the sun....

But, if is a question of money I say take what cat. you can and go and have fun. There are other places to have a relaxing time.

but, ahhhhhhhhhhh the verandah

If money is not an issue, get the verandah. We have two sons, 4 1/2 and 7, and the verandah was perfect for the times when they were napping or sleeping by 10pm. Also, it was very handy if we ever wanted to toss them overboard.

I'd agree with everybody else...if you can afford it, it would probably be great to have. We've never had a balcony and we've always had a blast. Hope you guys have a great vacation!

For hubby and I a verandah is definately worth the money...we had one on our first cruise..and we have decided we won't cruise without one again.

It is so wonderful...we saw the sea life from our balcony...almost all the sunrises/sunsets from the balcony. We could watch as we pulled into ports, see the land as we past by.

of course there are many variables...but there are some verandah rooms that are classified at lower price categories because they have a partially blocked view. So you can have a bit of a splurge for a little less money.

I know that there are pictures of those rooms somewhere on this board.

Good luck,
Karen
