Can someone tell me how the member point system works with DVC. I have a family of 5. Can I use points for my wife and I and pay cash for my children? What is the cash price for each additional person? Thank you for any help. :wave2:

Yes, you can pay with points for some people and cash for others. The cash price depends on the time of year when you are cruising and the age of the person cruising on cash. For the first 2 people in each cabin, it also depends on category of cabin.

For a family of 5, you will need either a category 4 cabin or 2 cabins. Many families find that it is cheaper to get adjoining cabins in a lower category or get a 6 with an 11 across the hall (if you want a verandah) or a 9 with an 11 (for a porthole.) You officially have to book an adult in each cabin, but DCL doesn't care who actually sleeps where. You can put the adults in one and the kids in the other. The downside to this is that the first 2 people are billed as adults regardless of age.

Just a hint....the number of points use to book a cruise is really high compared with the cash cost of the cruise. You can come out ahead if you are willing to rent out your points (for about $10 per point), and then use the cash to cruise. Also, if you book the cruise on part points, part cash, the entire cash portion plus the $75 booking fee has to be paid when you book. If you book with cash, you can pay a deposit for each person, then you have until 90 days before the cruise to pay the full amount.

Also, if you make any changes to your cruise after you book on points, you pay another $75 charge. If you book with cash, you can change your cruise date, etc. up to 90 days ahead with no penalty or extra charges.

There is a ton of info on the cruise site.....
