Cruise Curmudgeons of the World Unite

I have a question for folks ... Is it me or does it seem like DCL is not the best at proactively communicating with guests?

...

I never heard anything from DCL at all. I had to literally chase them for an answer.

.....
Again, maybe I should put DCL in touch with Kinkos, a notice printed on some nice jolly fuchsia paper and stuffed in with the cruise documents could have sorted everything out.

Could DCL just be that gosh darn inept at proactive communications?

Well, not to say it is just you....but it might be... :rolleyes1

When my upcoming excursion was canceled a few weeks before the ebta in May, I received a phone call letting me know. And on another cruise that required an itinerary change (no Tunisia for the Med), I received a couple emails..... one has to wonder if it's hit & miss.

So, let DCL know you don't appreciate being left out of the loop, if the spirit moves you to, but Guest Services aren't going to be much help, as you discovered (blank stares or sometimes nervous, spastic responses).

Do one of two things:
Email dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com or put it on your infamous Comment Card!!

I did make a note on my comment card. The other thing I learned is that the ships operationally are in many ways quite separate. This might have been a peculiarity of the Wonder vs. the Magic.

Or, it could just be that we travelled in steerage and should have considered ourselves lucky that we were allowed to sleep in a real bed and had a toilet in our room and not down the hall.

Sounds a little like our accommodations on Amtrak's Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle in September for the Wonder repositioning cruise from Vancouver to LA... The beds are reasonably comfortable, but the toilet is down the hall and the shower is downstairs...

I learned more English grammar in one semester of college German than in 13 years of K-12 English classes.

I hear similar comments all the time. Sometimes it makes me wonder about English teachers, and I then I remember all the times my students say, "Wow! I never knew that!", only to have me point out that we learned it x days/weeks/months ago. :)

My fiance and I were just discussing Platypuses (Platypi?) last night. I mean, how often does that platypus REALLY come up in conversation?! Weird.

If you have a child who loves Phineas & Ferb, they come up all the time. :)

You should watch the episode "Greece Lightning", in which Norm is introduced. The movie that Doofenschmitz makes is great!

Lastly, after receiving a work email today, it made me think of posts I've seen on here and thought that you guys of all people would understand. WHY do people feel the need to change the font color and size 10 different times throughout their post/email? I understand emphasis, but surely logic dictates no more than 2 colors and bold, highlight or underline can be used to emphasize a point much more effectively than font size.

:confused3

Wow! This has to be a record for a thread kill! A whole week!! WOOT!!!! :cool1: :cool1::rotfl:

Ah, I often find myself reading the cruise board and wishing we were still up there with the big kids.

I read things and bite my tongue (or is it my fingers) and think what I would be posting here.

I do have to say that I think it's been at least a month since anyone posted a "Tell me about ... [insert, ocean, stairs, food, water, or anything vague]" thread.

It takes a lot of work to do that. Plus it also decreases readability.

Just did a quick search for "tell me about" and came up with 493 hits. There were 8 on the first page that actually had "tell me about" in the title. :(

Since this board is primarily used for the planning of a Disney Cruise and since this thread has absolutely nothing to do with that it is being closed.

Feel free to start a website, a Facebook page or start a thread on the Community Board for all the curmudgeons to discuss any gripes.

Thank you. Also Please be aware of the cruise guidelines on moderator decisions.

Edited to add decided to move instead of close.

Weak.

For me the "Tell me about ..." in a thread title is like a red flag to a bull. I mean who on earth would post, "Tell me about cruises"?

Mightn't it be more prudent to at least give readers an inkling about the information your looking for, so as to encourage getting useful answers?

That's not too sarcastic for DISboards is it? :confused3

Not for this crowd, but then I have to add in all sincerity that it was kind of the moderator to reopen thread and move it here. I thought that showed very good judgement.

I think we were rocking the boat a bit too much on the cruise board (pardon the pun).

They take place on boats...err, ships.
They are relaxing.
There's lots of food.
You're expected to leave the dinner table each night without paying.
Unlike at EPCOT, you will actually be leaving the country.

My other favorite is "Has anyone ever been to" Key West, Palo, the kids clubs, the laundry room, etc. etc. etc.

My favorite is when people respond to these by posting "No" and move on. If you can't help the person, why do you bother to post?

I have to subsribe to this thread. We love reading it and on some many things we can agree.

:goodvibes

When I can tell what information people are looking for from their thread title, if I have some answers I always do.

When it's one of these vague things, I never do.

What I also love is when you provide the information and then they proceed to argue with you.
