Cruise Curmudgeons of the World Unite

Can anyone tell me what in the Hades Disney was thinking when they came up with the look for all the little girls to be made up as 'princesses' in the Bibbidity Bobbity boutiques??? They look like walking macrame spider plants sprinkled with glitter on top of their heads. It is purely awful. Downright disgusting. And soooo many people pay to do that to their girls!! Can anyone point out a princess in any Disney production who looks remotely like an exotic dancer (ok, maybe Jasmine,) and why would Disney do that to little girl?

Remind anyone of the 'Toddlers & Tiaras' TV show? Scary and exploitative with a total emphasis on appearance in a VERY inappropriate way for these little girls. I wish parents would act like parents and let little girls be little girls.

I'm 34 years old... can I still get ribbons tied into my hair so I can look like the 5 year olds on the ship?

Wanna look like a 5 year old...carry a 'familiar.'

I haven't cruised yet, but is it really THAT common for grown adults to walk around the ship carrying a stuffed animal with them?! Really?! I mean, are we talking MAYBE one person per cruise? Or more like 20 or so people per cruise that you'll see with a "familiar?" I can't imagine grown adults doing that. :sad2:

I've only sailed a 3-night so far, but I never saw one. I did read a trip report of a 14-night cruise and all the pictures were of the woman and her Mickey doll. Many, many character greetings (it was 14-nights after all) as well as the more "formal" portraits. And yes, her husband was sailing, too. Don't think I ever saw any photos of him! So, does it happen...yup. A widespread "problem"...probably not.

I remember seeing a woman getting the captain to have his photo taken with her "familiar" (not with her, just with the familiar). He seemed uncertain.

I'm still considering bringing Perry the Platypus as a familiar - he can beat up Duffy.

As long as the captain doesn't start singing "There's a platypus controlling me..," I think your familiar is fine and I look forward to spotting it in the future.

It really brings the whole 'familiar' thing to a new level.

That video is epic!! :cutie:

But this is so weird. My fiance and I were just discussing Platypuses (Platypi?) last night. I mean, how often does that platypus REALLY come up in conversation?! Weird.

On my last cruise we saw 3 different people with stuffed animals. The thing is- they stick out- and so over the course of the entire cruise I just kept seeing them over and over and over so it's magnified and then you can't avoid them.

I don't know, the stuffed animals just don't bother me all that much. Nothing that doesn't have a direct effect on me personally bothers me much, except bluetooth headsets for mobile phones. Those bug the crap out of me.

I never quite know if the person is:

  1. Talking to me
  2. On the phone
  3. Crazy and talking to themselves

Today, it happened to me again, this time at work. I thought someone was talking to me. They were looking at me and words were coming out of their mouth. It turned out he was on a tiny headset.

The same thing happened in the supermarket over the weekend.

My question is, how do you know that there's someone actually on the other end of that conversation. Crazy people could be instantly cured if they were just given little headsets with a blinking blue light.

The other thing that really bugs me is people on their cell phones in public bathrooms. Some guy standing next to me chatting away all the while there are typical bathroom noises going on drives me nuts, not to mention gets me wondering about what the person on the other end thinks. When they're on in a conference call meeting it makes me wonder even more. I just know that there are people gathered around a table on the other end with a speaker phone.

I suppose if I saw a stuff animal in a public bathroom with a bluetooth headset then they really might annoy me, but on their own. I don't care much.

Since this board is primarily used for the planning of a Disney Cruise and since this thread has absolutely nothing to do with that it is being closed.

Feel free to start a website, a Facebook page or start a thread on the Community Board for all the curmudgeons to discuss any gripes.

Thank you. Also Please be aware of the cruise guidelines on moderator decisions.

And I say it's sad when people put so much effort into spoiling other's enjoyment of Disney....

Thinking one's posts are just witty is one thing - but so many have ended up making fun of everything that Disney stands for. Makes me wonder why any of you even bother to like or go to Disney? After all, there is no such thing as a talking mouse, there are no magical castles, and it's all merely rides..... Why even go?

Some of us like to enjoy the fun and get into the spirit of Disney. It's those posts that make fun of those who DO enjoy the parks and Disney that caused many to get upset.

I think I need to leave the DIS for awhile as it's not a place where one can feel welcome if one loves Disney....

I am sorry if I offended anyone's love of Disney. That being said, there are no two people in the world who love anything in the same way, and anyone who doesn't get the humor just doesn't have to visit the thread. There are many threads where I read one post and then leave the page.

I don't think my accountant would tell you I don't love Disney. :faint:

I give about as much money to the federal government each year and I make fun of it as much as humanly possible.

Sometimes I like to question things I see in life, and ask,
"What would Jon Stewart say about this?" or "Would this make a good SNL skit?"

I don't think I can turn that off.

Hi Curmudgeons & those who love to laugh.
As a frequent participant on this thread, I wish to truly apologize for any way in which I may have offended anyone or in any way maligned the Love of Disney.
I am truly in LOVE with all things Mousey. We are AP holders at Disneyland, cruise only Disney and even a good portion of our family wardrobes are Disney related! (LOVE the resort dresses with hidden mickeys!!!)
:lovestruc
That being said, I NEVER got that anyone here was attempting to spoil anyone's enjoyment, nor making fun of everything that Disney stands for. In fact, it seemed to me that, aside from the grammar detour, people were expressing the things that they find onboard that are in direct contrast to the TRUE Disney way.
Pushing to the front? NOT Disney behavior. We ALL have to wait.
Deciding that the rules are just suggestions? NOT Disney behavior. They apply to ALL of us.
As far as those who express opinions about things they find unusual or strange... laugh along or don't. Its just an opinion.
Loving all things Disney does not mean that one has to be Pollyanna all the time and fart pixie dust!! We all can love Disney in our own way. It feels a bit like it's been determined that if we don't "Love Disney in the RIGHT way" we will be removed!!! Kinda unfair there and NOT in the Disney spirit!!!

Thanks MJ! I kind of wondered why you just hadn't moved it (and was kind of surprise that didn't happen when we went off on the grammar tangent!)

Maybe we can pick up some more curmudgeons on the Community Board....I KNOW there are some! :lmao::lmao:

Thank you MJ for moving it instead of closing the thread. I am, according to my DH, a Disney Nut, and he puts up with me for it. This thread gives him a place to be Grumpy but still have some fun. I even get to laughing over things in the thread.

Best thread on the Boards!

How do I know that - because it got moved to the Community Boards, LOL.

Those of us that have bitten our tongues until they bleed salute you OP (and all other contributors). I agree with all.

BTW - "fart pixie dust" - I am SO stealing this..... :lmao:

I am one of those Moms who love all things Disney. Its a passion. People come to me for trip advice, recommendations, etc. I was married at WDW in 1999, and we are DVC members. We go to Dinsey in some way/shape/form on a yearly basis. I would probably be considered more of a Pollyanna sort than a Grump.. ..

However, I have made several posts on this thread of "Pet Peeves or criticisms". As the PP has said, many of our criticisms are not of Disney itself, but of some of those who partake in Disney Cruises. We don't all agree with what someone has posted, but can see the point made.

For example, I will admit I love the FE and just finished mine for the upcoming Alaska cruise, so while I don't agree with the FE sentiment given by one poster, I find that many other things on this thread are true on!

And so I continue to read the thread, and post when I see fit. :surfweb:My guess is MANY people agree with many things posted here, (even if they don't post their agreement) considering there have been over 20,000 views thusfar.

There are many threads on many Disney boards I don't agree with. But I don't let that spoil my Disney Fun. They are most likely made by some person, somewhere in this world, whom (?WHO?) I will never meet IRL. I can't let some cyber stranger make me upset about the Disney I love. If it upsets me, I don't read it. Just like I turn off the TV if I don't like something, or not buy/borrow a book I don't agree with.

There are bigger problems in this world than a few Disney Loving Curmudgeons posting on a single thread of thousands on a Disney Board.:flower3:

Just saying

Now back to our regularly scheduled kvetching...pirate:

Quite a busy time, what with being closed and then moved.

I'm not entirely surprised as it did veer a bit off of cruising what with the grammar and all.

I can well see that some readers with gentle sensibilities may have been offended.

I'm not going to speculate why or if it's good or bad, right or wrong, it just is what it is.

ikh...shouldn't you be resting up for Harry Potter day?
