crowds the week before and the week after labor day?

Well, much to my dismay, my DS has finally reached the age where taking him out of school for "off season" savings at WDW is getting more difficult.

Where as we used to visit in mid Sept or mid Oct and loved it because of the mild weather and mild crowds, we now have to adjust a bit. I know from hanging out here that crowds in the parks calm down a bit in mid August because lots of southern schools go back around that time.

Are the crowds in Mid to late August comperable to those in early to mid Sept?

What about specificly the weeks before and after labor day? Are the labor day crowds large only on that weekend? OR are they large the week leading up to labor day and then lag off by quite a bit after the monday that is labor day? OR are they pretty light the week before and then heavy over the holiday weekend and the following week? OR are they heavy both the week before, during the holiday weekend and still heavy the week after?

Labor Day weekend is very crowded but the week before is very quiet. I have gone a couple of times. Any time after the 15th is fairlly quiet. I'm going again on Aug 16th

We usually go every year on Labor Day weekend and I have found it to be the least crowded holiday weekend. Of course, I'm sure that the weeks surrounding it are much like the rest of Aug or Sept in that they are the least crowded months of the year except for maybe Oct.
So if your used to the lighter crowds at that time, I don't think a change in weeks one way or the other will make much difference. Now if your talking Christmas, forget it. We were there one year and there were more than 90,000 people in the MK on one day. Yikes!
Also, being one of those in the south you mentioned, we do start school Aug 7th this year!!
