Can anyone let me know what the crowd will be like on Jan 1? I tried to get some PS on Jan 1 and could not get any. Help??

Not as crowded as Dec. 31st, but right up there. The crowds won't thin out until Monday the 2nd. A lot of companies give that Monday as a holiday, so I think it will be a travel day for most people returning home.

The last two years in a row we have gone to the Magic Kingdom at opening on New Years Day, and it was awesome... no crowds whatsoever for 2-3 hours. But once everyone shakes off the night before, the crowds build fast. We are doing it again this year... plan to tour in the morning, have lunch at Tony's and leave. We did get an early PS/ADR at Tony's for our group of 10, but I called exactly 90 days out. Still, I would be surprised if you couldn't find something.

We arived NYD 2004 and we just stayed around the resorts since we were a little scared of crowds. (we didn't get there until noon.)

When I tried to make PS they said you needed a deposit since it was a holiday. Seeing as we were flying that day, I didn't really want to (what happens if we miss our flight.....) We had a fine meal at CS at Con with a little wait. It wasn't bad at all.

Crowds went down every day after the 1st.

This year we will be there Jan 4 to 11th. There is some talk of a bit higher then normal crowds since some schools don't start back until the 9th. I am not too concerned.

Jan 1 still has the huge Christmas crowd but you should be able to get a dinner ressie. Note I called late yesterday and easily got Crystal Palace for 7:30 on Jan 1 and they were offering me any time between 7 and 8. I then called and canceled that this morning and instead reserved Hollywood & Vine at MGM at 7:30 because I realized that is likely the night MGM will be open for three extra "magic" hours to resort guests, and they had significant time available for H&V. They did not ask for any credit card to reserve the reservation.

Also be aware that Jan 2 will likely still have huge crowds because in last several years pattern for most has become to depart the first work day after the holiday.
