Hello!

We are going to WDW 8/15-8/22 and I was wondering what to expect for crowds.

The last time we were there was this past September. We don't want to pull our dd out of school again, we we have to go in August...

Thanks!!

You made a good choice.

We checked into BWV last August on the 16th, staying until the 24th. Crowds generally declined each day we were there. Making all ADRS as far in advance as possble, using Tour Guide Mike and entering parks at opening, we didn't wait for in line for anything.

Crowd wise this is a great time to go. We used to always go last 2 weeks of August, but marching band has changed that to first 2 weeks. (I guess kids have to grow up, but as long as they love Disneyworld, that's okay!) We never waited long in August. Only problem is the heat and possible hurricanes.

The crowds didn't so much decline, I think, as they more likely MELTED INTO THE PAVEMENT.... :rotfl2:

We went the 3rd week of August a couple of years ago and it was doable crowd-wise although I would take advantage of planning your park time to minimize crowds and waits (like with Tour Guide Mike which is what I use or some other guide). It was hot but it is hot all summer. We did get A LOT of rain - and I mean A LOT!!!! It often rained when we came back to take our afternoon break and it wasn't just rain but bad thunderstorms so we couldn't go swimming - and sometimes that lasted until too late in the evening to go to the pool at all. We ended up adjusting the schedule to go swimming one of the days in the morning so cause the kids were so disappointed with lack of pool time. We often did slog through the parks in the rain too.

However - I would do it again with the idea of having some flexibility to move plans around if there are thunderstorms/rain. I don't mind doing the park in the rain but it is a bit scary trying to tour parks in thunderstorms (even tornado warnings when we were there too!). Crowd-wise though I think it is the best time of the summer to go to avoid crowds. Always the risk of hurricanes of course. But we were there this past July and almost got clipped by some hurricane (Dennis?) which also threw bad storms at us - LOL! :umbrella:

Now the 1st week of May is just gorgeous..... :sunny: ;)

Levity aside, there is a useful insight here - the heat in sumer (not just August) does generally make park vistors "wear out" more quickly than they do in the early spring or late fall through winter periods.

That works both for and against someone visiting in mid/late August. If you manage your party so you regularly enter the parks at opening, take a long afternoon break (ergo, get out of the park by noon - no ifs, buts or maybes) and then return to a park for dinner and a show/parade, you will easily "beat" the majority of those you are competing with - those who arrive in whatever park at 10:40am and are dead from the heat by 3pm. :faint:
