Several resorts are sold out. Does that mean it will be crazy? We choose this time to be more relaxing... :sad1:

You'll find moderate crowds, 5-6/10. We've traveled during that time for the last 6 years and while crowds have noticeably increased it hasn't been drastic.

I've noticed an increase in our fall vacations, but not drastic. Unpredictable might be the word I'd use - I might have a really good day at the parks, but find my resort food and pool pretty full, or good ride times but crazy long restaurant lines. I tried to use the crowd level predictions on touring plans and easywdw to pick the best park each day (during that time you'll still find some parks predicted at a 3-4 out of 10 on some days) and hope for the best!

We have gone this time of year for most of the last 12 years. Each year was busier than the year before.
It is no longer a "QUIET" time of year. It is moderately busy. Not summer or holiday week busy, but busy none the less.
It would be good to reset your expectations accordingly.
Enjoy

2 words- Columbus Day!

Last year I read so many trip reports where people were shocked at how busy and crowded it was, and they went thinking it was a quiet time. I think its safe to say, there is no such thing as a quiet time in Disney anymore.

Are you trying to book one of their offers? Those sell out, they don't offer for all rooms. Try a different package, it might help. We went in August and booked in April and we were fine.

Are you trying to book a special offer (dining, room discount)? Those do sell out. If you change from that you might find more offerings.

I already have our room booked, but thought about renting a DVC and they are all full.

Any ideas on wait times third week of october?

This. Last year we arrived the Thurs before Columbus Day weekend and that weekend until the Wed after CD crowds were higher than the previous 3 Oct trips which we started the Thurs after CD. This year we arrive after CD. Also, avoid WS on Saturday unless a sardine can looks like a comfortable place to sit.

I have gone in late September and October several times and due to the ever-extended EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, the resorts, restaurants and events (shows, fireworks, etc.) are very busy but the waits on rides aren't as bad. Meet and greets are a mixed bag depending on the characters.

This is why I rearranged our days in October. The recommended parks don't work for us, so I made the best of what I could.

We will be doing Epcot on a Tuesday, I figured that would be much better than Sunday.

I am also concerned like OP is about the crowds. We are going to be there from October 18- 22, and it already looks packed. We (like everyone else) are taking advantage of the kids' fall break to take vacation.

It can't be that bad right, it's Disney World!

F&W is big with DVC don't even think of trying to get BCV or BWV unless you own there and book 11 months out. Even the MK DVC are probably sold out. Only availablilty will most likely be SSR or OKW. Its one of the reasons our home resort is BCV.

It seems the crowds have increased quite a bit the last few years for October. A lot of schools have the week off around Columbus Day, the Food/Wine Festival is going on, and MNSSHP. We went last October and were surprised at how much the crowds have increased.:)
