My husband gave me a new Crock Pot for Christmas. I have not used one in years and really don't remember what I used to cook in it. Right now, I have a beef roast with carrots and onions cooking for dinner. I have a Crock Pot cookbook that I need to take a look at. I am sure I can find all kinds of recipes on-line, but I would like to know what YOUR favorite recipes are. ;)

Thanks!
Michelle :flower3:

Italian beef! It's definitely my DH's favorite!!

Beef Roast
package dry italian dressing
jar of pepperoncini peppers
beer

I use smaller roasts (just the two of us) so I don't put ALL the peppers in the crockpot or it gets too spicy.
Shred it and serve it on thick, crusty rolls. The broth is excellent to dip bread into, too!

Thank you! That sounds like one my husband would like! :thumbsup2

Roast

Roast with 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, carrot and potatoes (I don't like onions) you can also add a package or french onion soup mix and it is oh so mush more flavorful.

Yummy, the soup and the juice from the roast create a wonderful brown gravy!

Chicken and rice

Boneless skinless chicken (breat or thighs) cream of chicken or mushroom soup, uncooked rice. Delish!

I don't like to measure so I just eyeball it, you can't have too much of the soup in either 1 because it's just more gravy.

Ribs

I also cook my ribs in the crockpot. Rach of ribs rubbed with your favorite spices or rub, bottle of bbq sauce, cook all day and the ribs just fall off the bones.

Meatballs

Italian style meatballs, equal parts of chili sauce and grape jelly, or ketchup and grape jelly. Sub rolls and provolone cheese.

Chili

Cooked ground beef, chili seasoning (McCormick's package and recipe), can of tomotoes, kidney beans. Let it cook all day. I do a frito pie with my chili, bag of fritos, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream. Yummy! Also on top of a backed potato with sour cream and shredded cheese.

I have also made Monkey bread in the crock pot but it takes less time in the oven so I just started making it in the oven like normal.

Breakfast casserole

Cubed bread, eggs (scrambled) salt and pepper, cooked sausage, bacon or ham (or all 3 or just 2), shredded cheddar cheese. I personnally haven't done this but a co-woker did and it was very good. I thought about trying it with frenchtoast too. Instead of doing the eggs with salt and pepper, putting cinnamon in the eggs and coating the cubed bread then maybe putting some fruit pie filling on top of that and cooking it. IDK though.

I love using my crockpot and just throwing things together. As my DD says, it all goes to your belly together anyway!

Sorry - I misread your thread as Crack Pot. One old, sinewy and vocal curmudgeon, two neighbors who steal your morning paper, three dog owners who let Precious, Princess, and Phee Phee leave poop all over your front yard, four non-residents who feel free to use your dumpster, five uninvited solicitors selling magazines, and a Partridge in a Pear tree. Add onions, peppers, and season to taste. Cook forever.

Sweet potatoes with coconut and pecans.

Chicken with chicken stock, onions, and lemon pepper seasoning.

Chicken in buttermilk and herbs.

Pork ribs with soy, ginger, molasses, and worchestire.

Just to add my 2 cents....you will love your crock pot I use mine all the time~don't really have a recipe per say I just throw it all together.

I'll just add my favorite since I am sure you will get a lot of replies and there is another huge thread somewhere on the boards with recipes also.

Pepper Steak

1 frozen thin top round streak cut into strips
1 green pepper julienned
1 red/orange/purple pepper julienned (you can pick the other color or mix it but make it the equivalent of one additional pepper)
1 sweet onion julienned
1 small can tomato sauce
2 tbsps beef gravy mix
worcheshire sauce
brown sugar
hot sauce

Put the tomato sauce, gravy mix, few shakes worcheshire sauce, few shakes of hot sauce (I use more, but you can add as much as you feel you would like) and a sprinkle of brown sugar in the crock pot on low. Wait a few minutes and stir. Place frozen beef in first, veggies on top. Cook on low 6-8 hours, stir every 2 if home, or before serving if not.

I serve over hot rice.

Enjoy!

I use google to find easy ideas for crockpots.

I have beef stew in mine right now. Love my crock pot. :lovestruc

My favorite thing to cook in the crock pot is soup - split pea, taco soup, turkey soup, etc. You'll find tons of recipes online!

There's a blog where someone cooked with a crockpot every day for a year. There's lots of good stuff in there. Google it up.

We've had a few good threads on this topic here. Try searching for "crock pot" in this forum. There was one thread a few months back that was chock full of good recipes.

My favorites? Steak pizziola, which is browned chuck steak or roast, cooked all day with a can of crushed tomatoes and a can of water, crushed red pepper, garlic and salt/pepper. At the end of the day, take the meat out with a slotted spoon or tongs, turn the pot to high and leave the lid off (this will cook some water out and concentrate the sauce). Keep the meat warm by covering it in foil while you boil a pound of rigatoni.

Corned beef is excellent. Slice some carrots, potatoes and onions then line the bottom of the crock with them. Place a corned beef on top and pour a can of beer over it. Sprinkle the spices that came with the meat on top. At the end of the day, put some wedged cabbage in a large skillet. Pull liquid out of the crock using a coffee cup. Add it to the skillet of cabbage and cover it. Cook it for about a half-hour, and you'll have a lovely corned beef and cabbage meal.

Pot roast is a family favorite, and there are loads of variations you can do. For mine, I put carrots and potatoes in the bottom and place a seasoned rump roast or bottom round on top. I place a couple of bay leaves on top, then some sliced onion and a can of Cottage Inn beef broth. At the end of the day, remove the meat and veggies, and strain the juice into a saucepan. Add some dissolved cornstarch and cook it into a nice gravy.

My advice is to read the tips that came with the crock pot. There is a lot of good general information in it.

Enjoy! :)

One thing to keep in mind is tha crockpots cook hotter & faster than they did in the 1970s. So if you find really old recipes or an old crockpot cookbook, be sure to reduce the amount of cooking time by several hours.

And I also love those Reynolds Crockpot Liner bags for easy cleanup on the really sitcky stuff. 4/ box. Walmart has best price.

Forgot the favorite in my house!

1lb cooked ground turkey, seasoned with salt pepper and garlic powder, 1 lb block of velveeta cheese, I can of chopped black olives and 1 can of Rot-el with green chilis. Serve with tortilla chips. My kids love, love, love this.

I love my crockpot as well :). I'm thinking of buying one of those 3 crockpot units I've seen -anyone own one????
