Crock pot recipes for WDW vacations

Does anyone have similar problems?

I follow the crockpot recipes to a "T" but they come out too watery in the end. Some recipes are easy to correct because you can thicken the gravy with cornstarch, but I wouldn't know how to thicken pulled pork or something. Can anyone help?

My favorite beef stroganoff ( a little different than the one I saw earlier)

1 lb beef tips
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 soup can filled with red wine
1 packet lipton onion soup mix

Put it all in the crockpot and leave on low for 6-8 hours (or even longer - doesn't really seem to matter!). Delicious! I like mine served over rice.

I won't be using these recipes on vacation (I have a policy:lmao:) but I crockpot all the time at home.....must try that chicken/salsa cream cheese thing....
I noticed a lot of people say pork w/rootbeer, I learned years ago that any type of roast with a can of coke poured over it is WONDERFUL.....just toss in some ch. onions and some potatoes.....
my fave easiset crockpot meat is toss in chicken pieces and barbecue sauce...
my fams fave meal is corn soup
2 bags froz. corn, 2 container chicken broth,3-4 potatoes, diced, salt, pepper, cook for 6-8 hours, add some cream, maybe a cup(?) and some dry potato flakes toward the end to thicken it sprinkle bacon pieces on top,or just toss into the soup:thumbsup2 they LOVELOVELOVE this! (you can always adjust spices for personal taste, and I don't know why it is so good, but it is!)

Most people don't like to cook on vacation so I know that policy well..:goodvibes
Never heard of the corn thing, but if it's got rave reviews gonna have to give it a shot. Seems really easy too..thanks for sharing.

I did the Root Beer pork and it was DELICIOUS!!! I used whatever pork I had in the freezer which was bonesless ribs and diced pork. I also used Barq's rootbeer and KC Masterpiece Hickory Brown Sugar BBQ sauce. I think there was just enough fat in the pork to really make it yummy. I think any type pork would work.

The thing that really hit these out of the park were the Sister Schubert brown-n-serve Yeast rolls! The pork itself was delicious and could be yummy on a piece of toast, but these rolls REALLY made this dish outstanding. I think this huge bag of rolls @ Sam's Club would've been like only $5 but I got it for free for buying this sausage they were showcasing. Now I know what I'll use the rest for. Thinking of doing a beef roast with cola and putting that on those rolls too..yummy!

As far as things coming out too runny, what are you making? I guess I would suggest using less or no liquid to start then monitor the cooking and add liquid as needed?

I broke down and bought the crock pot liners..using that for the first time today. Doing the frozen chicken, salsa, cream cheese recipe and adding black beans and pinto beans as well as fresh jalapenos (I like it hot), cilantro & cumin. I'll let you know how it turns out :)

Great thread! just subscribed. We were in Hawaii for two weeks in May and had a condo. A quick tip about packing spices. I bought a pill box with giant compartments and placed all my spices in there. they stayed seperated and was easy to pack. Worked like a charm!

GREAT idea! I'm heading over to the Dollar Store today to pick up a few trinkets for our trip and a pill box :)

I would print our our list of ADRs and keep it in the crock pot. Every morning, I would take it out and look at it and then place it back in the crock pot. I would enjoy my vacation more knowing that my list of ADRs was safe in the crock pot.

This is my favorite recipe & even my very picky kids who almost never eat beef absolutely love it. My 8 year old requests it almost every day for dinner.

pot roast
1 pkg beef gravy
1 pkg ranch dressing
1 pkg italian dressing
cut up potatoes & carrots
1/2 cup water

I just dump everything in & let it cook on low for about 6-8 hours or on high if the pot roast is frozen.

Are the dressings and gravy packaged in powder or actual jars?

Also I finished the salsa chicken recipe and it is DELICIOUS!!! I did my tweaking and it was wonderful!

I used about 3/4lb chicken breast tenderloins, seasoned with garlic salt & cumin. Added a jar of salsa, about 1/2 can cream of chicken soup 1 can drained pinto beans and 2 fresh jalapenos cooked approx 4 hours on low then shredded chicken, added 1/4 of a cream cheese square and cooked an additional hour.

It was very creamy and tender. Put them on tostada & taco shells with cheese, lettuce & tomatoes...unbelievably good! this is definitely going in our crock pot @ WDW. High protein, gluten free, yummy and some body fuel. I think next time I will eliminate the cream cheese. I think the cream of chicken soup somewhat replaced the need for the cream cheese.

Great thread! We will be going in December, staying in our MH at FW and these recipes are just what I am looking for to save on dining!

I do a beef stew (usual veggies--potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, etc) but instead of tomatoes, I use a jar of salsa (Pace mild).

Publix has this pork shoulder that they cube with peppers and onions and make it cajun style (I think that's the flavor). I've asked them to make it without the peppers (get too soggy) and they have been happy to do so. Cook it on low for 6 hours and serve with hot yellow rice.

Love the crock pot liners! :thumbsup2

I promise this is the best chili recipe you will ever eat. I have converted non-chili eaters with this recipe and it is requested at every family function. I got it from a “Fix it and Forget it” cookbook.

3-bean chili

2 lbs hamburger meat (I use turkey meat and add beef bouillon to it)
2 medium onions, diced
(1) 16 oz can of diced tomatoes
(1) 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
2 pkgs dry chili seasoning (I used mild)
(1) 16 oz jar of medium salsa (I use mild)
(2) 16 oz cans of garbanzo beans/chick peas or white kidney beans (drained) – I use garbanzo beans
(2) 16 oz cans of red kidney beans (drained)
(2) 16 oz cans of black beans (drained)
2 teaspoon of sugar

Cook the hamburger and the onion first. Then combine everything in the pot and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Half this recipe, if you have a 3qt crock pot.

Great Recipes!! Not sure what I'm cooking today or tonight. Sunday's I always make a pretty decent sized meal for my boys when they get home from their dads from the weekend..but since its Father's Day he is going to keep them for supper. Kind of conflicted as to what in anything to do. Sundays I cook...that's just what I do...kind of feel alone in a vast ocean..:lmao:

I still have leftover bbq pork and chicken, so that'll be my eats for the day and probably for them for lunch tomorrow. Decisions decisions....hmmmm

I have this same recipe and LOVE it  So does my family and anyone else I serve it too!

Taco Soup is also one of our favorites. We use chicken instead of beef (we don't eat it, just shred before serving) and it is great with tortilla chips and sour cream or cheese!

Our favourites are pulled pork (I use tenderoloin), pot roast, chicken breasts with just about anything thrown in  and cheesey scalloped potatoes and ham. Scalloiped potatoes and ham would be my favourite.

peeled and finely sliced potatoes (enough to feed however many people you need to )
2 large smoked ham steaks, cut into cubes
onion
butter
pepper - I only put salt in if I'm only make the potatoes. The ham provides enough salt flavour
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
1 can of cream of cheddar soup
milk

toss it all in the crock pot and cook on low for 6-7 hours. I eyeball everything. Sorry I don't have exact measurements.

This sounds VERY close to a recipe I've loved my entire life and is my DS's & BF's favorite! I've always made it in the oven, never thought of the crock pot. I do the same recipe as yours except: I dont use onions, butter or the cheddar soup. I use 2 cans mushroom soup and grated colby jack cheese. would the cheese melt the same in the crock pot as it does in the oven?

GREAT idea to put in crock pot! Thanks for all the ideas! Keep em' comin!

They are in packets, the dressings are in the salad dressing aisle and the gravy is with the other powdered seasonings.

For a trip to a vacation house or possibly DVC this sounds like a good idea - especially if you have a group. However - is anyone considering this for a resort room :confused3 If so please consider your room neighbors.... I sure wouldn't want to be in the room next to you

I guess I don't understand what you're saying. Why would cooking in a kitchen be offensive to other guests. Am I missing something or misunderstanding your post? TIA

Just found this thread and really love the ideas. I don't tend to use my crock pot too often because my oldest son doesn't like "wet" food, but I think I might convert him with some of these recipes.

Only problem, being a Brit, some of your US terminology is a bit lost on me ;), (eg pulled pork) and some of the ingredients I'm not sure are available across the pond. I may well look into them in a bit more detail later (when I have more time) and post some queries!
TIA

She's not talking to those who are staying in DVC, WBC or another vacation home or timeshare. She's talking to those who are staying in a hotel room without kitchen facilities. There's numerious threads out there about cooking in your Pop Century or All Star rooms. I'm pretty sure you're not allowed crockpots and other cooking items in those rooms.

Minnie, I belong to RCI, so most of our vacations are in timeshares with full kitchens. Thelionqueen stated in her first post that she's staying at Bonnet Creek, with a few kitchen. So she's fine.
