Forest Whitaker Considering Starring in Criminal Minds Spinoff

Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker is reportedly going to try his hand as television’s new leading man, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The website announced on January 25 that he is negotiation with CBS for its potential ‘Criminal Minds’ spin-off.

If Whitaker is accepted for the project, he will the play the role of squad leader Cooper, who CBS describes as a dynamic father figure to the rest of the Behavioral Unit team. Cooper is a former well-known profiler who hasn’t prominent in eight years.

The spin-off was written by ‘Criminal Minds’ executive producer Chris Mundy, and is based on a story he created with executive producer Ed Bernero. Richard Shepard will be directing the pilot. The spin-off’s story will be introduced on a spring episode of the original show, and will focus on a new group of profilers who work outside the FBI bureaucracy.

The producers wanted Whitaker early on, and initiated what came to be a lengthy on- and off- negotiation. When The Hollywood Reporter made the announcement on the 25th, CBS was close to locking him into a contract. Part of the contract will include a producing credit for Whitaker.

This isn’t the first time Whitaker has starred on television. His numerous guest-starring roles include FX’s ‘The Shield,’ where he portrayed Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh, and NBC’s ‘ER,’ where he played Curtis Ames, both in 2006 and 2007.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I'm up for another Criminal Minds type show. This one is already dark and gory enough. I continue to watch this show because it's got such an incredible team of personalities. Hmm, I'm not sure if I'm up for another Criminal Minds type show. This one is already dark and gory enough. I continue to watch this show because it's got such an incredible team of personalities. Any new spinoff, for me, would have to have just as dynamic a combination of characters on the team.

I'm not so sure either. I don't care for the NCIS spinoff, NCIS LA, but both of the CIS spinoffs have done well.

Just joining this thread...I'm obsessed with this show. I LOVE Dr. Reid and Morgan. I found this show by watching it on A&E. A friend I work with kept trying to get me to watch it and I am not sure why I resisted. I love every single character. Both Gideon and Rossi are great...I don't prefer one over the other. Last weeks episode was excellent. I still have it on DVR, I might try and watch it again tonight.

Did anyone else recognise the actor playing Agent Goldman? I kep going, "Where do I know him from? I recognise his voice, I just can't place him..."

I finally had to look the episode up. Then I went, "Of course!"


I definitely like Garcia's hair better this red color. She looks more intelligent with this color.

I realized J.J. now has bangs meanwhile Emily got rid of hers.

While I'm on hair, I don't care for Reid's shaggy do.

A couple of days ago I saw THE episode(That's what I'm calling it without spoilers ) from the current season. I cried my eyes out!

As for favorite characters, I really like Morgan and I've recently become attached to Hotch. I LOVE the relationships between Morgan and Garcia and between Morgan and Reid. They're just so sweet!

Does anyone else think that some day Gideon is going to make a guest appearance? I just don't think he'll be gone forever! Maybe it's just wishful thinking

They say it wasn't over contract negotiations, (Patinkin wanted more money,) but he left TWO TV series under strangely "unusual" circumstances without any warning.

Only the parties involved, plus Thomas Gibson, (Hotch,) probably know the truth. Gibson was in both series with Patinkin and saw the actor implode both times.

(Factoid: They are both grads of the Julliard School. One of the best schools for acting. Different years, of course.)

I doubt Patinkin will ever star in any TV series again. What producers would want such an unpredictable wildcard?
