I volunteer at Mote usually in the dolphin and whale hospital. We haven't had any patients lately so I've been helping with some clerical stuff in the manatee research dept. I also volunteer with FL Fish and Wildlife with mantee rescues and health assesments. I've been in the marine mammal field since 2004 and I LOVE it!!!!

Mote in Sarasota? I haven't been to there facility yet.

My DH is a marine biologist and works for NOAA, but unfortunately doesn't get to do much "Marine biology" anymore!

I think you are in a terrific (sometimes heart breaking) field!

How funny that both our hausbands are marine biologists! Yes, MOTE is in Sarasota. I highly recommend it. They have 2 resident dolphins. Harley is a spinner dolphin and Moonshine is a pan-tropical spotted dolphin. We are the only facility in the US to house these types of dolphins. They were both rescues, Harley in Texas and Moonshine in South FL. In fact, I was part of the organization that rescued Harley and worked with her a little before she came to FL! People ask if Harley followed me to FL and I tell them No, I followed her! LOL I LOVE my dolphin buddies.
