Just wondering... Are the CMs working at shops and restaurants in the parks trained to check the signatures on credit cards?

I ask because in stores at home, it's rare that cashiers do. Most of them hand back my card before I even sign the slip! We plan to bring our credit cards to WDW, but it seems like a place that would have lots of pick pockets, and I wonder if the CMs are trained to watch out for credit card fraud. (Not that it would prevent from using the cards outside the park)

The same holds true at the world as well. I used my Credit Card everywhere and they only on one card did the CM's ever ask for I.D. or verified my signature.

They asked to see I.D. because I got a renewal card in the mail a week before we went and I forgot to sign the back. This was caught, but that WAS the only card that was ever checked.

At resturants, they take your card and then give it back to you by addressing you by name... they (all resturants, not just the world) don't even stick around for you to sign it... Infact, they would charge your account even it if wasn't signed or signed a different name. As a test my friend did this for a month. He used his discover card everywhere and as his signature, he signed it "FRED FLINSTONE" and never once was it brought up that wasn't his name or the name on the card. All the charges appeared as stated on the monthly statement.

Kinda funny and scary at the same time.

From my own experience, if you don't sign the card, you attract more attention and in return the chance of false charges could be lessened.

Cast Members are told to, but that does not always happen....
I would say if your staying on properity give the resort your credit card number at check-in, set up your key card to charge to your room. That way you dont have to worry about looseing your credit card, and you can pick up a list of all your charges every night at the front desk:)

Wow. I have ALWAYS had my signature and ID checked every single time I have EVER used my Debit or Credit card anywhere on Disney property or at the Disney outlets. I rarely have seen it checked outside the world at restaurants and such but ALWAYS on property.

Maybe a 34 year old Mom with 2 kids in tow buying toys and souveniers looks suspicious??? LOL

I worked at Disney back in 1996. We were trained to ask for ID if the back of the card was not signed. If the card was signed, we were to compare signatures before we returned the card to the guest.

IMO, more retailers check this today, but in '96, I had NEVER had anyone check my card before.

There were definitely problems--lots of teens with their parents card and we had to tell them we couldn't take it.

We went in January 2004. The CM at ASMu didn't have us sign our resort card at check-in. We went to DD after we got checked-in, and the CM working in the first store we made a purchase in made us (in a nice way) sign the cards before we left her store.

You should never not sign your credit card. If someone steals your card all they have to do is sign the card in their handwriting and it will be a perfect match every time. If you'd prefer not to sign it for fear of having someone learning your signature and forging other documents, write "Check ID" in place of signing it.

Every retail purchase I've ever made at WDW has checked my sig, including the counter service restaurants. Full service restaurants, however, generally operated the same as in the "real" world, allowing the patropn the privacy of adding the tip and totalling the charge after the charge was approved via the electronic terminals.

That's what I was going to suggest!

Do what we do and put "SEE ID" on the signature on the back of the card. If they don't ask, then ask them don't you want to see my signature and make sure who I am who I say I am.

If you really want to get them in the mood of checking, if they don't ask, ask to speak to a manager and in front of them ask that you would feel better if they would verify who you are.

My signature has also been checked every time I have used a credit card or my room charge at WDW. I can't think of an exception.

Blessings

When we went in March they checked my DF's card due to the fact it wasn't signed as he puts check ID on his cards. So they asked for his ID. But stores here in NY don't check his ID at all so it is good that they in WDW do check ID's.
