Creationism museum to be protested...

Dino fossils were put here by God to mess with human scientists, right?

(at least that's what one Christian told me)

:lmao:

I was told by another that all the H. habilis/rudolfensis/ergaster/erectus/etc fossils we find are just deformed H. sapiens.

That's the other thing I have been told. That every caveman and dino fossil were actually mutant remains. Of course they never wanted to explain how they got where they were found adn couldn't have possibly came from the same period they want us to believe they would have if the bible was accurate.

my bad - I truly believe, I think the science speaks for itself...whatever...as I said, I don't believe one excludes the other however.....I suppose it is possible a supreme being is somehow responsible for evolution....

ETA - ya know, I am entitled to my opinion - so no "my bad."..I truly DO feel I know it to be true - so no apology here.....isn't it possible to look at overwhelming scientific evidence and say you are personally sure about something????

I thought the rest of my post was pretty commonsense..if that's all you had to blast - I'm good!:)

Have a nice weekend!:)

Pretty hard to discount evolution since it continues to happen to this day.

I guess if somebody was to deny evolution ever happens, but I would like to see that argument if that's what they believe.

No, salmoneous is saying parables are recognizable. Jesus might say "Let me tell you a parable", or the Gospel writers might as in the example you gave. Or Jesus might just tell a story that is recognized as a parable: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like...". But we don't have to have Jesus tell us what is to be taken literally or what isn't.

Likewise, it's easy to recognize that Genesis is an allegory, not factual.

Laura,
I see what you all are saying and I am just wondering why you say it is easy to recognize that Genesis is an allegory, not factual. I am very curious and would like to contemplate your feelings for stating this. TIA

No blast intended. My bad.

No blast intended. My bad.

um yeah....

you know I didn't put down anyone else's beliefs.... so I don't appreciate your "tude

if you are only on post 8 (!!!) and are gonna pick everything apart in this way....well, go for it....but I would suggest having a little more to contribute than "Oi Ve!!!!

Please list said examples of evolution that are occuring today?
I'm thinking that you're talkiing about ADAPTION?

The THEORY of Evolution can happen if you can void the Third LAW of physics.

No blast intended here as well. I'm dis-ing in between patients. Was typing too fast and un-intentionally blasted another poster. Whoops.

how do you "unintentionally" quote a post and then sarcastically respond to that quote????:confused3

What third law of physics? There are no "laws of physics". There are laws of other things which are used in the study of physics...

There are 3 Laws of Thermodynamics, number three is "As temperature approaches absolute zero, the entropy of a system approaches a constant." - not sure what that would have to do with evolution.

There are 3 Laws of Motion (Newton's laws), the third of which is "Whenever A exerts a force on B, B simultaneously exerts a force on A with the same magnitude in the opposite direction. The strong form of the law further postulates that these two forces act along the same line.". Again, not sure what that would have to do with evolution.

I think the protest is pretty stupid and a waste of time.

I don't believe in creationism as the Christians do but I'd go in just to check out the exhibit out of curiousity.

I KNEW I liked you!

The Bible is a very clever text. As we evolve, so does our understanding of the scriptures, based on our level of scientific advancement. For example, we now know that the creation of the universe happened with a big bang and that God created man through the natural process of evolution and natural philosophy.

Laura,

Honestly, science shows us that the universe developed in a way that isn't described in Genesis; it certainly didn't take 7 days after the Big Bang (if that's how the universe was created) until humans walked the earth. Also, the idea that the writer(s) of Genesis couldn't have comprehended something like the Big Bang with the knowledge at the time makes sense. I was never taught that the Genesis creation and fall of man stories had to be factual, but that the important messages are that God created everything and it's best to obey him. It's hard for me to comprehend the thinking of people who take the Bible literally, especially in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence.

In addition to science disproving the creation story in Genesis, there's symbolism in it that could be linked to other religions/beliefs of the time. For example, a serpent being a symbol for enlightenment/awakening isn't something that originated with that piece of literature. ETA: In addition to the story of Creation, Genesis talks of the flood and Noah. There are similar tales from that part of the world: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/flood-myths.html#NearEast To me, this suggests borrowing from other texts, not being divinely inspired with the infallible word of God.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic, Laura. I have never really been taught about Genesis or had any interest in the creation vs. evolution topic. I have always wondered about the time frame (Was a day 24 hours as we know it or was it a possible 1000 years time thing? Was there a break in between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2? I've always thought there was but have never had anyone tell me that or agree with that. Later on in the OT, we are told of Lucifer's fall. So when did that take place because is Lucifer was the serpent, he was already fallen and when did that happen in the time frame... and my questions go on and on.) So, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the subject without belittling my question. I was sincere in asking and you were sincere in answering and giving your POV.

No problemo. :) I think the "day" in Genesis doesn't matter, as the whole thing isn't entirely factual, but there is mention of evening and morning, so it sounds like the writer meant an actual 24-hour day. And if you take it literally, it's 24 hours. Of course, the morning, evening and daytime could have all stretched out and been eons, but something so remarkable as that would have been mentioned, I think.

There's no contradiction or time frame issue within Judaism because the serpant(to Jews) is just a serpant and not Satan.
FWIW Judaism ,in general , does not view Genesis as a literal tale.
