Who eats these? Never heard of them before and the all of a sudden I hear a lot of people referencing these as part of their Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm seeing recipes all over the internet. Hmmmm, never heard of these as part of a Thanksgiving feast. It looks kinda good, but I can't stand onions.

MMMMMMMM this is my fav side dish for this holiday. My Grandmother use to make it , than my mom and know me...and my kids like them also. Lots of butter, lots of milk and flour make for great creamed onions.

Cant be the only one cause the Jared onions disappear off the shelves really fast. :thumbsup2

LOVE these!! Never had a Thanksgiving dinner without them!!!

Gotta have them with peas, though. Peas and little pearl onions in cream sauce. We've always had them for Thanksgiving.

These are a holiday tradition for us - the recipe is on the jar of onions - sorry I don't know it - I am not the cook ;)

My mom has been making this for at least 42 years. I've never heard of jarred onions - my mom peels the little ones.

We always use Aunt Nellie's Jar of little onions - I googled and found a recipe
CREAMED ONIONS

1 jar (15 oz.) Aunt Nellie's® Whole Onions, drained
2 c. half-and-half or light cream
2 T. dry sherry
1/4 c. flour
2 T. grated Parmesan cheese
pinch of nutmeg
salt and freshly ground white pepper to taste
1/4 c. unsalted butter or margarine
1/4 t. dry mustard
1/4 t. paprika

In a small saucepan, heat half-and-half and sherry just to simmering and set aside. In a (3 quart) saucepan, melt butter; add flour and cook, stirring constantly (1 minute). Gradually whisk in half-and-half mixture and stir over medium heat til the sauce thickens. Stir in cheese, dry mustard, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Add onions to the sauce and pour into a quiche pan or (9-10 inch) pie pan; sprinkle with paprika. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes, uncovered, til sauce is bubbly.
(makes approximately 6 servings)

My mom is the only one who likes pearl onions in a cream sauce (well, DH likes them too). She has never made it from scratch but instead will buy a box or two of Birds Eye pearl onions in a cream sauce (if she can find them) for Thanksgiving.

Last year, I couldn't find it for her, but this year I saw it at the grocery store in October and called her up. She asked me to pick up 2 boxes for her. Since my family and I have taken over the reins for hosting Thanksgiving a few years ago, I'm making sure to heat those up for her.

I buy the frozen pearl onions. Thaw the onions and make a white sauce with butter, flour and milk. It is good mixed in with little green peas.

Got my mouth watering here, can't wait for Thursday!! :D :D

This isn't tradition for us, though, we have had it.

My grandmother alway made Creamed Lima Beans, which is basically the same cream recipe (which we don't make anymore).

Hmmmm, I might taste it one day. I'm very curious. I hate onions except for when they're mixed and cooked with other food.

Here's the recipe I use which I love:

Pearl Baked Cream Onions

yields: 6

4 cups pearl onions (I used frozen pearl onions, thawed)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/3 cup butter,melted
2 1/2 cups crushed buttery round crackers
1 1/3 cups heavy cream

Preheat oven to 350.
Place onions in a 2 qt casserole dish and season w/salt & pepper.
Pour melted butter over onions and sprinkle crushed crackers on top.
Pour cream over crackers.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 min.
