Crazy to go in July?

Hi everyone!

My husband and I have a 10 month old. He just got back from being deployed from the military and he is only able to take leave the week after the 4th of July. We are Disneyfanatics, are excited to take our daughter to Disney World, and are considering going this July. Before our baby was born, we would have annual passes and go during the winter months, but we have not braved the summer. Are we crazy to consider going to Disney in the middle of July? I am very familiar with the parks, but the more I think about it, the less I know about what would be good/okay to take my baby on--would it be worth braving the heat and crowds with an 11 month old? I would hate to get there, be so packed we can't move, and there is only a handful of things we can do with my daughter and it takes 3 hours to get through the line..

Any thoughts would be awesome! Thanks!
Heidi

Well, the bad news is it's going to be HOT! But, the good news is I just saved a bunch of money by switching to...........Just kidding. Look at it this way, most all of the attractions you can do with the little one are on the inside in the air conditioning.

Yep...It will be hot. Yep...It will be crowded. Yep...You will be in the "World". You know yourselves and your daughter better then any of us. If you can handle crowds and heat and are willing to take the breaks that you will need to during the day for your daughter then you will be fine. Take it slow, drink lots of water and monitor your daughter and break as necessary and you will be fine.

Have fun if you go!

Yes you are crazy! STAY HOME!!! Just kidding. Everyone will tell you it's too hot. Boo Hoo! You will be amazed at how many people are there. Including me! Our family is there almost every July. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Yep, I agree with sunking. Been there, done it. Very hot, very crowded, but doable. If I were you, I would get to the parks in the early morning, head back to the resort to explore and rest after things start to heat up. Then head back later in the day after things start to cool down. Parks do stay open later during summer months. Don't go in with the mentality that you've got to see and do it all. And be prepared for those Orlando summer showers.

I hate to be negative but - after just returning from the sweltering heat at WDW - I'd say plan to spend your precious time with your lovely child and husband as comfortably as you can - in the AC!!

Or - perhaps plan for just a couple of days at WDW concentrating on the activities that you can enjoy with your daughter there that are not in the sun and not outdoors in the middle of the day.

I hope I don't get flamed for this because I know that there are many fans that will enjoy themselves at WDW no matter what. We had a fantastic time at the parks (just came back June 6th - was at the parks for 8 days) but, if I could change just ONE thing about our trip it would have been the time that we went. The heat just sapped our energy and changed our moods. We did very well in spite of the heat but found our energy perked up when we went inside for shows or on rides that had AC. Yes, we had plenty of water, sunscreen, fans, went home mid-day, etc... Even so, the days that were 90+ degrees and 70-85% humidity were just horrendous. Emphasis on horrendous.

If/when you do go - please put a hat on your precious daughter and put plenty of baby-friendly sunscreen on her. I can't tell you how much my heart ached each time I saw an infant or small child with a really bad sunburn.

If you have to be out of doors in the heat of July - you may as well be in WDW!!

BTW - I've lived in Central Texas all my life - it was 102 degrees today. I'm accustomed to 100+ weather for days on end........nothing comes close to the heat WITH the high humidity we experienced in Florida. Nothing comes even a little bit close.

I echo the whole idea of going to the parks really early and leaving when it gets unbearable. It really is cooler in the mornings and it is so worth it! We went in September and it was blazing hot that week. The only thing that saved us was going early and getting as many rides in as possible. And trust me--I am NOT a morning person at all!!

Another thing I would do is make a list of things that you must do. Make it a short list, but really prioritize what is most important to your family. That way, no matter what happens you will have made some great memories-heat or no heat!

I have been in August with children that young and even younger. If you love Disney that much, go for it. We took advantage of the early extra magic hours (since little ones tend to get up early anyway), went back to resort after lunch for a nap and a swim, and head back in time for parade, fireworks, etc. at night. We did not visit a park everyday and did not go to water parks when the kids were that young. We go at least once a year, so we didn't try to do everything when the kids were that little. In another year, you and your child will enjoy Disney even more.

It is miserably hot that time of year. It will rain every afternoon, so be prepared. Hope this helps

We go in July each year (36 days until we are there...YAY!) and let me tell you, it will be very hot! It is Florida after all. Will that stop you from having fun? Heck no! If you have enough water and enough shade time (including air conditioned places) you will be fine. I will also add that it will be crowed! I can't explain how crowed it was for me in the MK at 2:30 pm. (The Share a Dream Come True parade takes place then...avoid the MK at all costs during that time!!!!) I literally, LITERALLY had to squeeze between people unable to see where I was going. Luckily I know the MK like the back of my hand! lol. Are you crazy to go? If you are Disney fanatics (like most of us here) you are certainly NOT crazy. If you are, then call us crazy too for going each year in July. lol. You will love it! The summer months are awesome (makes the water parks and water rides so much more enjoyable!)

:rotfl:

Yeah, I'm trying to think of the advantages too because we're going in July and I've never been in July! We've done June and August, and I really have to say I prefer them to January February. I want to swim, I want the late hours, and I want the entertainment! It's just more fun in peak months, IMO. So I figure you have to take the good with the bad!

Might not be the best, but my family and I are still going. It's the only time we can go, so why not hehehe

Have fun!

We went last August and the heat was UNBEARABLE. We personally would NEVER go again for the heat, BUT if it was the only time we could go and under your circumstances I say go for it. Plan for swim breaks, indoor meals and early mornings.

Let us know what you decided
