I apologize in advance to anyone who thinks I am nuts, but, since we are new DVC Members, I am wondering what everyone else does. I have rented DVC at the BW before, but it has been a while.

The last time I checked in, I put as many plates and cups, and as much silverware as I could, in the dishwasher and washed them before I could use them. :p Am I absolutely crazy? Does Housekeeping make sure all of this stuff is washed before putting them away or do they just give it a "looks clean to me."

What, if anything, do you do about the kitchen etc? Thanks!

Better safe than sorry. I wash them too. I aslo like to bring Lysol etc for the bathroom. I know it may be a little overboard but I am ok with that!

It doesn't take very long (and it isn't hard) to run a load through the dishwasher. I usually do the drinking glasses, coffee mugs and silverware before we use them. Don't worry too much about anything else.

Best wishes -

I like to wash the dishes first, too.

I'm also the Lysol Queen. princess: My family knows to take their time getting to the room so they don't asphyxiate on the "fresh mountain air" from a can. :teeth:

Actually, I take a large tub of the Clorox wipes and usually give all surfaces, doorknobs, phones, faucets (and anything else I can think of) the once over. I do that whenever I travel. I saw an item on the local news about the noro-virus on cruise ships and they showed phones and door knobs as a big places for breeding infection.

Who knew? :cool1:

I don't think you're crazy. The last time we had the full kitchen, I rewashed everything before we used it. I also go through our villas (any villa) with Lysol wipes and spray Lysol when we first get there. I'm a gerb-phobe and proud of it!!!

I guess we live dangerously, as we took a look at everything and judged it clean enough. Plus it'll toughen up my kids' immune systems, right? ;) Hey what doesn;t kill you makes you stronger ;)

We always put everything we've used into the dishwasher at the end of the stay and check out with the dishwasher running.

the sink as we need it as we know others will always clean after us .

Mostly, I wipe down the remote. Seems like that is the #1 touched thing in a room...

You are 100% correct. Actually, that was another thing I saw on the cruise ship show.

Plus remember, tons of kids stay in these places. How many put the remote in their mouths! :earseek:

Yep, add me to the "nuts" list. Aside from washing the dishes, I also run a tub of dishwashing detergent in the jacuzzi to clean out the jets and then another 2 tubs of clean water to clean out the detergent in jets :rolleyes1 before any anyone in the family is allowed to use it.

I'm really glad I'm don't have to directly pay (I'm sure it comes back to us indirectly) for the water at WDW.

I'd prefer bleach but who carries that around and I'm not about to buy a whole bottle just for that one cleaning. So, the DW detergent works in a pinch. Why 2 tubs of CLEAN water? It seems that DD6.5 is very sensitive to the detergent. If I only run 1 tub of clean water, the residue irritates her skin big time and she gets rashy EVERYWHERE - KWIM?

I guess DD6.5 gets her phobia from me. Last time she was in the jacuzzi, she kept asking me multiple times, "Mommy, did you clean the INSIDE of the bubble thing? Did you clean it 2 times? Are you sure?" As if I would let her in the tub if I didn't! I guess she remembered my explanation of why I clean the jets from eons ago - oh somehing about other people's dead skin - EWWW!

O'kay some people have stated that mousekeeping cleans the jets between guests. Both since it takes FOREVER to fill a tub and I've seen the detergent water, I'd rather be safe then sorry!

I just move in... LOL

I travel weekly and find this fear of hotel room germs very funny! I don't think my health is dramatically worse for the wear and the "germs"

I never thought about washing the dishes, or anything else in the standard hotel inventory. But I always wipe down the jacuzzi with some sort of disinfectant, and let the chemical run briefly through its internal plumbing. Who did what in the tub--and how long the result might stay alive in a damp, warm, dark environment--gives me the creeps.

Glad to hear that all of you are cleaning the rooms before we arrive. Thanks.

I never thoght about wiping down the remote and stuff with wipes. but I might have to start.
Thye're not too expensive and small enough to pack.

Jeepers - seems to me there are an awful lot of people on here who are paranoid about cleanliness.

We just move in and check crockery and stuff as and when we use it. We seldom use the bath (prefer showers) and so I've never even thought about cleaning it before we use it. Anyway I don't carry anything like that with me, packing our own toiletries takes enough space as it is.

But as JohnNJ says - seems like you guys are cleaning it for us - maybe you folks should be asking for a reduction in your dues!

I thought the housekeepers wash all the dishes when they clean up the room for the next guest.

I don't wash any dishes before I use them. I don't bag or wipe off the remote control. I don't use dishwasher detergent in the jacuzzi. I don't take off the bed spread. I don't put on my own sheets and use my own pillows.

I walk on the carpet and floor barefoot.

I swim in the pool and use the hot tub. I don't wipe down the bathroom counters and toilet before using them. I even sit on the seat when I use a public toilet.

There is a whole other thread about excessive cleaning before occupying a hotel room.

My wife is getting the heebie-jeebies just reading your post. She assumes you are Bill talking, since she can't believe a woman would be that cavalier about germs.

First thing we do when we arrive is load the dishwasher and run it. We carry Clorox wipes and give the remotes, phones, doorknobs and most surfaces a quick once over. Takes all of 15 minutes and could prevent a nasty virus. Think about all those threads where people talk about having the flu, etc at WDW...
