CP Waterpoof??

I will be attending CP next week & was wondering if our heads are covered for any possible rain. Can it get rained out?

The CP is in the American Gardens Theatre, no walls but it is covered overhead.

The only ones that are guaranteed a seat under the roofed area is those that bought the CP/Dinner package. The rest of the audience is not under the overhang.

That would be a plus for the package! Thanks for the info!! The weather looks spotty for next week & I don't want to do this in the rain.

We went last year on Christmas Eve. We had tickets for the second show. It rained pretty good all day long. When our show started, it was not raining, but by the time it finished, it was pouring. The cast had umbrellas given to them as they left the stage to get back to the American building. We sat in the front row and did not get the least bit wet. The people sitting towards the back half of the theater were soaked. They cancelled the third show that night because of the rain. We got very wet heading back to our car and resort.

We did the CP/Dinner package on Nov 28th and did not have a covered seat. Almost the entire theater was filled with people with a package. I think it would depend on how many packages they sold. It wasn't a problem we didn't get rained on but even with a package you aren't guaranteed a seat under the roofed area. You do at least have a chance, those without a package would rarely be seated under the overhang unless it was a very light crowd.

I was there last week, and was told by someone who went that the 5:15 show on 12/10 was cancelled. And it was cancelled after it was scheduled to start. That kind of surprised me because it wasn't really raining hard and there was no thunder (at least at AK) at that time. But I was there for the 6:45 show, and that explains to me why that one was so crowded!

We went with the package on 12/7 and our seats were not under cover. It was a clear night so it didn't matter but only the front section is under cover and many of those seats were held for guests of the performers. We were close to the front of the line but we could not get seats in the front section. We were in the second row of the second section in the center, they were good seats but not under cover.

I wondered what happened on 12/10, we were thinking of going standby but we never left BWV because it was raining on and off, also windy. We ended up going the next night and got standby seats with no problem. We wanted to see it again with a different narrator.

It's definitely not waterproof....I was one of those who had a dinner package for the 5PM CP on 12/10. The skies opened up JUST as the choir began to process in, and the last kids in were literally drenched. There was an announcement that it would be "delayed" due to weather, but within a matter of minutes made another announcement that for safety reasons, the performance was cancelled. People in the crowd booed loudly, but what could you do? I know lots of people got in line at guest services--I presume to try to change their dates, get their money back, or otherwise complain, but we just went off to Le Cellier and had our dinner. We were able to stand in the back and see the 8:30PM show--and it was wonderful--but I was definitely disappointed to miss my up front seat. Oh well. That is for sure why the two later performances on 12/10 were mobbed, though. I think that for the 8:30 performance they never even got to open up the seating to stand-by, as it was full of dinner package people from both 8:30 and 5PM.

So yes, FYI, it can be rained out.

The past couple of times that I went they are taking about half the theatre for the package people. Only about a 1/2 of those seats are under the cover of the stage. If you are looking at the entire theatre about 3/4 of it is open to the weather and then depending on the way the wind is blowing about 1/2 of the covered area will get wet.

We had the 6:45 last year on Christmas Eve, too. We had the CP Dinner Package but missed the covered section by 2 rows. We had to put on our ponchos during the performance. As soon as the performance ended, the bottom fell out and it poured. It took our tennis shoes about 3 days to dry out.

Actually, when you book the Candlelight Dinner Package, the telephone agent tells you, as part of the booking spiel, that the show may perform during rain, but only a few seats are covered and you are not guaranteed a covered seat.
