Covid Comeback?

Except you don't know that's why they didn't get sick. As I mentioned above, my SiL tested positive yesterday morning. There were eight of us on a cruise last week. We spent an hour in a van from the cruise to the airport Saturday, and three hours spent 16 hours with him in a car when we drove back overnight Saturday into Sunday. Knock on wood, no one else has symptoms. No one was masked.

Covid doesn't follow logic.
There are a lot of factors involved. One of those factors is the virus load of the sick person who is exposed to others. Your SIL was probably already sick, but her virus load may not have been high enough (yet) to infect others. FWIW, it's still early for you to say that no one else got sick from your SIL who probably got sick on the cruise. I would say that you dodged the Covid bullet if you are all still fine at the end of the week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I was just at the bank doing a currency exchange and there was a woman in line behind me that was standing pretty close to me. When she gets to the teller, she loudly proclaims that she has Covid. She wasn't wearing a mask either. So if I get Covid soon, I'll be sure to thank that lady breathing on my neck 🙄

Everyone in the bank called her out for being there when she knew she had Covid and the staff went into full disinfect mode but that was just so ridiculous.
Omg, that’s maddening!

Son in law. ;)

My point is exactly that there are a lot of factors involved, and I don't think simply saying "I quarantined and masked is why others didn't catch it" is valid.

ETA: Yes, I figure by Saturday, we'll see where we are. I'm hoping we dodged a bullet.

Some of these people seem to wear a Covid infection like a badge of honor. It's ridiculous.

Having had a confirmed case of the flu in January, Covid IS now being treated like the flu. The guidelines are the same: symptoms improving and fever free for 24 hours without meds.
Not here. No 5 day quarantine for the flu like there is for covid. 2 days for the flu. And at least here in California employers are required to publicly notify co-workers that a case of covid has been reported in the building, and privately notify those who were around the infected person.

{shrug} I think it helped and no one else got sick except my DH who slept next to be until I tested positive.

Is that a California rule? The CDC recommends isolating until your symptoms improve and you are fever free for 24-hours without meds. After that, you can return to your regular activates but they recommend that you wear a mask for 5 more additional days.

I don't know. I just know my daughters (also my former) employer and my wife's employer do it. It may be also because they require a Doctor's note to return to work if you take more than 2 consecutive days off sick. That policy at my wife's employer dates back at least 45 years, so not related to covid. If you have an illness that requires more than 5 consecutive days off, they put you on short term disability so you don't use up all your sick time.

EDIT: A Google search seems to indicate this is the latest CDC guideline, so this applies everywhere in the U.S.

That's what I've been doing this whole time, we just follow the CDC guidelines. At this point I've also stopped paying people to stay home and quarantine 10 days if they get it. So we have no quarantine and no testing requirements anymore, neither do the food processing facilities we work in. I'm up to 97 employees spread out in 3 offices and we've done really well with minimal issues, thankfully if folks get sick they have been responsible and respectful of the other employees. It probably helps that our offices are all solo offices with doors and/or outdoors and spread out. Basically, if you get it but are feeling better and/or ok you can come back into the offices. I ask that when in the common areas they mask for 5 days.

From the CDC - snippets, to read everything see link.

When people get sick with a respiratory virus, the updated guidance recommends that they stay home and away from others. For people with COVID-19 and influenza, treatment is available and can lessen symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness. The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication.
Once people resume normal activities, they are encouraged to take additional prevention strategies for the next 5 days to curb disease spread, such as taking more steps for cleaner air, enhancing hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping a distance from others, and/or getting tested for respiratory viruses. Enhanced precautions are especially important to protect those most at risk for severe illness, including those over 65 and people with weakened immune systems. CDC’s updated guidance reflects how the circumstances around COVID-19 in particular have changed. While it remains a threat, today it is far less likely to cause severe illness because of widespread immunity and improved tools to prevent and treat the disease. Importantly, states and countries that have already adjusted recommended isolation times have not seen increased hospitalizations or deaths related to COVID-19.

While every respiratory virus does not act the same, adopting a unified approach to limiting disease spread makes recommendations easier to follow and thus more likely to be adopted and does not rely on individuals to test for illness, a practice that data indicates is uneven.

She did seem proud to announce to all of us that she had Covid. The teller actually asked her if she was joking since it was so unreal. But nope, she was serious. We'll see what happens but this did make me go buy some N95 masks online.

This one is a doozy. Just when you think you feel better, it creeps back. Rest, leebee.
Oh, I am!
Oh no, sorry to hear this. What symptoms are you having?

My 86 y/o dad has barely anything, my mother (80) has gone into a fullblown headcold and fevers. I'm fortunate that both my parents are extremely healthy with no underlying medical conditions at all besides their age.
@Christine @Pink Partridge
Thanks for your concern. Fever hasn't been too bad, around 99.8F (although I normally run around 96.8, so for me, that's a fever). Headache, light sensitivity, raw throat, deep cough/congestion, hoarse to no voice, joint stiffness/muscle aches. Up until last night it felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest, but today it's breaking up, but I feel like poop. DD is finally on the road to recovery. Her fever came down last night and if it stays down (without meds) until tomorrow morning, she'll go back to work, but has to wear a mask for another week. She works on the in-patient floors of a psych facility, so they aren't fooling around here.

GOOD. I am glad that some folks are still taking this seriously. We always wear masks in airports and planes, as well as at big events. DD/SIL are not going to the concert tonight, even though she feels better, she has a top-notch mask from work, and tickets have been paid for for months. She just doesn't want to push it, for herself and for others.

ETA: I spoke WAY too soon about the fever, and when it hit, it was like being hit by a truck. I ran a fever of over 101F for two days and hurt all over. It took several days for it to come down to a normal range. Long term, after the fever cleared it was like a bad cold, hard to breathe, hard to sleep. I got Paxlovid but by the time I tested positive and could get to a doctor, I'd actually been having bad cold symptoms for 4 days, so I am not sure the paxlovid helped; it seemed to take a while to recover. Upside? DD and I went to Florida for a few nights on August 2nd; at least I wasn't worried about getting covid in the airports/planes, we'd just HAD it! (and yes, we were asymptomatic and recovered, and yes, we wore masks anyhow, even though we were both beyond the 11 day window).

Some people are totally brainwashed & seem to live for cOVid.
I try to avoid those folks. It’s ridiculous.

(And before anyone comes at me, yes I’ve had it. Twice.)

One thing that’s been said a lot is about being fever free for 24 hrs without meds
What if yiu never had a fever and just figured you had a cold
I still can’t figure this one out
Banks had and some still do containers marked clean pens dirty pens

But what the tubes at the drive though. Just wonder how many’s times though were cleaned between customers.
The few times I would have to go to the bank and would be at the first window I’d never see the teller wipe anything down
But pens were and still are a big deal in some places

I've always thought the pens were a weird item to worry about. What about door handles? Stairway railings? Counter tops? There's all kinds of things you touch in day to day activities.

IMO, if you're that concerned about germs on random items, carry some hand sanitizer with you. When you're done at whatever location, use it.

This is exactly what we do. Husband & I both carry a small Bath & Body sanitizer. Then sanitize after doing the bank drive thru, leaving a store etc. Businesses haven’t taken extra cleaning methods in over 2 years.

Bath and Body Works is having a sale on hand sanitizer right now too. I bought some the other day as I always carry some in my backpack whenever I'm out in public.

What I don't understand is how businesses went right back to cramming people into offices. Our offices are going totally open concept. Nobody even gets their own desk once this remodel goes through. Not even the VPs. Basically, first come, first serve desks, with some meeting spaces sprinkled in. It's nuts!

Has Covid taught them nothing?
