Covid Comeback?

it never went away and never will- nor will the common cold or the flu. Covid is no longer the deadly killing machine that it was when it first came here- even the rules have changed- no more 5 or 10 day quarantining- just like any other sickness once you are fever free for 24 hours you can go out and about your normal business.

We still mask in grocery stores which for 4 years have been the "best" place to get Covid - worldwide!
We mask in other stores as well, and in crowds.
I used to get sick constantly but I haven't been sick since January 2020, and I thank the Lord
for His protection as well as His direction that March for our family to wear masks (via DH's work requirement).

I have to say I'm concerned with people on here stating they knew they had Covid but
still went to work & other places with symptoms!
Didn't we learn anything in the last, four years?
If you're sick and you believe you can make others sick (coughing, sneezing, etc.)
you are supposed to stay home!

This includes cold symptoms, flu symptoms, and yes, since 2020, Covid symptoms.

Reading these comments makes me very disappointed, and I will certainly continue masking.

As for the OP's question, yes it's rising daily here, my state is now "high" and DH's work has
had several people out. One young man was out for 2 weeks - said he was very sick.

I think it's incredibly disrespectful of people to go places when they are sick with any kind of virus. And if they MUST go someplace (like the store), they should wear a mask. Sadly, very few people are even remotely considerate of other people.

In June 2022, we were at Disneyland. My husband started feeling sick. We brought along Covid tests so he took one. It was positive. So we packed up and cut our trip short. Thankfully we had driven so we could mostly avoid people all the way home.

Unfortunately, most people DON'T end their vacations or stay in their hotel rooms when sick. They just carry on and spread it to everyone else. It's horrible.

The rules changed, not because of how the virus works, but because they want to keep people in the workforce. Has little to do with science.

Curious why you think that. I looked for some data and did not find grocery stores on the top 10 lists of places to catch covid. (Bars and jails topped the list, followed by nursing homes, indoor theaters and churches, restaurants, gyms, large outdoor gatherings, airports, hospitals). Both times I have had covid I caught it somewhere in Orlando or at Disney world.

Hard to find any data because those opposed to protocols complained so much that they don't keep data anymore. Well, not any specific data. They test the sewage here for covid and those tests show it is way up.

More & More of my doctors, their assistants and even the office staff have masks on. We are 'mask' people due to my autoimmune disorder but had gotten lax (neither of us plus an adult daughter have had Covid). We definitely will be bringing tons of masks yet again to wear at Disney. We've been to Disney multiple times during the Covid years, wearing masks all the time plus sanitizers within reach as Disney wasn't great about refilling theirs, and didn't catch a thing.

Planes are a no-brainer. Last flight in May there were an insane amount of people deep-coughing. Could not wait to get off that plane.

I still mask occasionally. I was lucky and didn’t catch COVID until February of this year. My husband attended a conference in Florida and even though he masked on the plane and at the conference he came down with it. Unfortunately he wasn’t sick until his third day home, so I ended up getting it too. Thankfully of our 4 kids, only one has had it. All of us are vaccinated and have had multiple boosters.

Currently I don’t mask outdoors or in areas that aren’t too crowded indoors but I do on planes, in the airport, and crowded indoor areas. I don’t want Covid again. It wasn’t fun.

My husband and I will be heading to Disneyland in August and I suspect we will be wearing a mask on certain rides and indoor shows. I will still eat at restaurants inside even if crowded as I probably have good immunity currently from just having it 5 months ago. But once fall hits, I’ll avoid that too. My husband is a physician and he has seen an uptick locally but it’s a small bump. Not like the ones they have seen in the past, so that gives me some hope. But I’m on the west coast and it may be different in other areas of the country.

I'm trying to find the info that I had saved in 2021, but I'm not making up
the grocery store information (I know, you didn't accuse me).
Back then I was following many reports from worldwide sources
and grocery stores in particular were the main source globally.
If I can find the info I'll post it here.

If you are going back to that timeframe (2021 with data gathered from 2020), then grocery stores were probably it. Grocery stores were essentially the only "crowded" place that was still open during that time. Grocery store employees were some of the worst hit (after health care workers) because of having to show up to work on schedule and deal with the public. I think once everything opened back up, bars and restaurants, and things like weddings became the superspreader areas. I'm not sure today that grocery stores are worse than any other public gathering space.

To my knowledge, neither I or DH ever had covid. .

I have noticed about 15% -20% of people in grocery stores wearing masks. Aside from church, that's about the only place we go. And church, only now and then, do we see a person wearing a mask.

DH and I still wear masks in crowded places, hospital waiting rooms, doctor's offices, etc. and when traveling (bus, airplane, airport, etc.). We found that when we were wearing them all the time when COVID first appeared we weren't getting sick with colds, flu, etc.

We are now supposed to come to work with covid, and just wear a mask, so yeah, we've come a long way since the beginning where we were paying people to stay home for 14 days if they had it, and we were rapid testing every time we came to work. I've had it 2x, and both times i felt bad for a day and then was fine. We are treating it like a cold now.

I hope the next time I get it, I'm as lucky. I have no underlying conditions. Nothing and it kicked my proverbial you know what.

My 86 y/o dad came down with it for the first time on Sunday. My mother has it now as of today. Both seem to be handling it all quite well with very little respiratory symptoms. Just low grade fevers and fatigue.

My husband & I had it for the first (& only so far 🤞🏻) time last July. It hit him hard & fast, 103 fever, nausea & weakness within hours. By the next day, he was almost completely better. Mine started slow, burning throat, tiny cough & tired for about 5 days. Then I got a 101 fever for about 9 days with exhaustion, weakness & the worst nausea I’ve ever had. Took me over a week to feel stronger even after the fever went away. It affected me for about 3 weeks & it was apparently not even a severe case. I hope I’m lucky to get “just a cold” next time too. I hope your parents recover quickly with no complications.

Oh goodness, when I hear this I just panic.

Me too!

My experience was not exactly like yours but I also had the 3 week case. Fortunately I didn't have nausea but tons of congestions and it also affected my left ear and ultimately my hearing so I have some hearing loss now. I also had that killer sore throat. I've had strep a few times and this was far worse.

I thought I heard that the current booster that is out now is not working on the strains going around and it's best to wait until the fall? I don't know. By the fall, there will be another strain. The boosters can't keep up.

As to whether it's now become "like the flu" well, yes, in that it's endemic. I'm 60 years old and have probably have the actual real-deal flu maybe 3 times in my life. Maybe it's more and they were milder versions. I never vaccinated either. I'm hearing of people having COVID 3, 4, 5 or more times now over a 4 year period. I don't think anyone gets the flu that often. That's where it differs and what I hate about it.

I never used to worry about the flu and traveling etc. unless I was traveling from about Dec-March (you know, flu season). I know it's always around but it's transmissability is much lower than COVID. I just hate thinking "is *this* vacation going to be ruined by COVID?" Because it could be any and all of them.
I feel the exact way. This is nothing like the flu. I never really had to worry about getting sick between the months of April-October except for the very occasional summer colds. But here I am on vacation and my partner caught Covid and I probably have it too but I am still testing negative. It really puts a damper on your holiday having to basically quarantine in the hotel room.

I know. I've got a BIG trip coming up in about 4 weeks. I'm taking my parents and it's been their first big vacation in about 6 years. They've been hermits. The good thing is that they have COVID right now so the likelihood of them getting sick on this trip is small (not impossible). Now I'm just worried about me. OMG, if I get it on this trip so much will be ruined and it just irritates me.

.... So no boosters today. If I can't get one before the cruise, I'll just mask diligently.
I would check other locations, I'm big on vaccinations before ANY vacations, but if you're going to be a long way from home, or heaven forbid, in a foreign country or on a ship - having every vaccination you can get will likely make your trip safer and less stress ;)
