Covid Changed Me

Throughout the last 2 years I have been a nurse caring for our elderly population. I got Covid 2 weeks ago and was out of work the entire time. Temperature, chills, nausea etc. Felt awful. As week 2 was almost over I got scared and have had severe anxiety. Something happened and it just broke me. I returned to work yesterday and today and it was all I could do to get through the day. I have terrible brain fog. I know in time things will get better, but right now I am just a shell of myself. I am taking anxiety meds which has helped.
I am so sorry. It will get better.

Well I had a car accident a little over a year ago that I walked away from without a scratch. That didn’t change the fact that for months I had panic attacks when driving in heavy traffic. Being rear ended by a semi at highway speeds will do that to you, as will trying to recover from a deadly virus, which I also did. The effects can linger for months making you wonder if you will ever be the same. How about 3 months later your hair starts falling out.
Seems to me like you maybe could have just read this thread and not responded.

I had the same thing happen with my hair. After about 2 or 3 months I started having A LOT of hair falling out. It really scared me. I haven't heard of anyone else having this. Finally after 4 months my hair is back to normal hair loss. I think the stress and extreme weight loss (in my case) played a part in it. I couldn't eat for a month so I think lack of nutrition played a big part in it. I think this virus hangs on much longer than we think. Hope you are doing better:)

I had pretty much the same experience. I did a little digging and you are right. It’s not strictly Covid, but just the trauma your body went through. They called it shedding, not hair loss really. Because it comes back. I had a terrible time eating for a long while after Covid. I’m fine now. I was in the hospital and got all the standard treatments they were using a year ago since I had pneumonia. I came home with oxygen but got rid of that pretty quick.
My sister is a nurse and they used her floor for Covid cases back then. I was on her floor for 6 days. She had a lot to deal with. They all did. When I didn’t respond to the treatments right away, I could see the worry in the nurses’ eyes. I know they had many that didn’t make it. It had to be devastating to be a healthcare provider at this time. OP has every reason to feel like she does right now.

Wow, I'm so glad you are doing better. It sounds like you had a severe type of the virus too. I didn't go to the hospital, but looking back, I should have. I am a retired RN and you can't tell us anything, LOL. But I was too out of it to think rationally and I have a great husband who stayed up with me several nights straight and took great care of me. Here's hoping we both get back to "normal" eventually. I still don't feel "right" yet.
