Someone posted this as a way to help the next guest have a room available sooner:
"One thing that we have started doing when we check out before 11 am is make sure to let the front desk...or call mousekeeping...to tell them we are out so that they can start the cleaning process earlier for the next guest."

What other courtesies would you suggest could be extended to possibly make something better for fellow DVC Members?

Empty the fridge, put dishes in the dishwasher and start it, take out your own trash, throw all your towels, washcloths and bath mat in the tub, make sure that all remotes are back where you found them and strip the beds if you have time.

Great thread! We already do all of the above with the exception of calling the front desk to let them know we've vacated the villa. That's a wonderful idea, so I'll be sure to do that moving forward.

During our stay, we try to be courteous by not hanging anything from the balcony and we try to keep the noise level down since we're usually up past midnight.

What I'm going to say next isn't meant to stir up controversy or debate the issue, but we also don't invite guests who aren't staying with us to join us for swimming at the resort. I've been asked, but the answer is always a polite "no" because pools at the deluxe resorts tend to be at high capacity when we travel and for use of those staying there.

We do load & start the dishwasher but don’t put towels etc. in the machine because Housekeeping has clean ones all ready to put out. The dirty ones are laundered in Disney’s commercial washers. We do pile all the dirty towels in the tub to make it easy for them to pick them up. And we do let them know when we leave the room.

We too do all of the above with the exception of calling the front desk. All the towels and bath rugs in tubs, clean and put away dishes, clean out the fridge and wipe it down, empty all the trash, if we used the sleeper sofa, sleeper chair or under TV murphy bed, we leave them open so housekeeping will know they were used. We travel with a two-year-old and a 5 mo old, therefore some furniture is moved to make room for a crib and/or pack and play. We put everything back in correct placement. I’ll even vacuum😜 day before or morning of check out (we are a multi-generational group, my husband and I are the last to leave).
If we have unopened leftover food, we try to find guest who can use items through “DVC Free Cycle” Facebook group (eta:“DVC Free Cycle” Is correct Facebook group name) . If no takers, goes out with the trash. recently I have learned through this board, some people will donate their left over items (water, sodas, ice cream) to Bell Service CM.

I have learned a lot by just taking the time and reading post on this board. I never knew there was “trash room“ until about eight months ago🤣 .

How do you find the FB recycle? I will have ~50 waters leftover in a week.

Oops my bad, The correct Facebook group name is “DVC Free Cycle”. Ask to join the DVC Free Cycle Facebook group, once a member you may post your leftover items, interested parties will contact you through Facebook.

It’s not just food, I have seen post for WDW balloons, people passing along strollers, at HHI & VB people pass along boogie boards, beach chairs, but it’s mostly food.
not for sure but I think OKW & Aulani may have their own “Free Cycle/recycle” Facebook groups.

Local family visited us one day, and the front desk at GVF offered to make them day guests, which gave them access to the pool. It wasn't an issue at all. FWIW.

Yeah, I'll throw the towels in the tub but I'm not washing appliances or stripping beds...
I'll throw the towels in the tub, take the trash out, and pack up the recycling in one clear bag. I also notify the desk when I'm leaving. I'm not stripping any beds, unless I'm looking for something that I've lost. I leave the sofa bed open if it was used.

Avoid doing these things:
  • Using coffee pot to wash dirty socks or underwear
    • Instead, use it to make coffee. (Wash clothes in a washing machine)
  • Cooking fish in the dishwasher
    • Instead, bake it in the oven
  • Washing cloth diapers in the washing machine
    • Instead, use disposables while on vacation
  • making grilled sandwiches with the iron and ironing board
    • Instead, order quick serve, or get a villa with a kitchen

Call Housekeeping it the front desk. Front desk calls are answered by an off site call center.

Housekeeping is local and it is directly relevant to them.

Oh my gosh, I have to ask: do people actually do these things? I am just shocked at bullet points 1, 2, and 4.

Yes, all these are real things that have been done. There are lots of people that are both incredibly innovative and resourceful, yet gloriously unsophisticated. :teeth:
(I will say I have no evidence that the 2nd was actually done on Disney property, but I know it's been done elsewhere, so I'm extrapolating the possibility)

Avoid doing these things (continued):
  • Microwave sardines (or other really smelly things)
    • Instead, eat your sardines cold...and dispose of the remains outdoors. Better yet get quick serve somewhere. (I mean really...sardines? it's vacation, get some Mickey waffles instead) :p

Sheesh… if I did all that it wouldn’t seem like much of a vacation.
We stayed in a timeshare in Virginia last October. The checkout instructions were quite explicit - load and start the dishwasher, pile towels near the entry door, strip beds and pile linens separately near entry door, take trash to the dumpster. Or get hit by a cleaning fee. This was a “real” timeshare, not a Disney timeshare-hotel hybrid. If you want clean towels during the week, wash ‘em yourself! Oh, and bring your own coffee grounds too. No freebies!
